Microsoft has announced the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. It includes all updates that have been delivered since SP1, as well as support for new types of hardware and emerging hardware standards.
As was mentioned before, here are some of the key benefits of Windows Vista SP2:
•Windows Search 4.0 for faster and improved relevancy in searches
•Bluetooth 2.1 Feature Pack supporting the most recent specification for Bluetooth Technology
•Ability to record data on to Blu-Ray media natively in Windows Vista
•Adds Windows Connect Now (WCN) to simplify Wi-Fi Configuration
•Windows Vista SP2 enables the exFAT file system to support UTC timestamps, which allows correct file synchronization across time zones.
And since it comes with a single installer for both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, SP2 will be easy for IT Pros to manage, deploy, and support. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 to be publicly available in Q2 2009
Windows Vista SP1 Service Pack Blocker Tool is being removed today, as was announced back in January. For customers who previously had the blocker tool in place, Windows Vista SP1 will now be offered to them via Windows Update
Vista SP2 RTM (KB948465) has download size 338.2 MB – 388.3 MB.
Vista SP 1 is a prerequisite for installing Service Pack 2. Please make sure that your system is running Service Pack 1 before you install Service Pack 2. Windows Server 2008 SP2 Release Candidate and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Release Candidate – Five Language Standalone version can be installed on systems with any of the following language versions: English, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish.

Microsoft this week announced the fact that it has reached the RTM (release to manufacturing) milestone in the development of Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2). The same milestone has been reached with Windows Server 2008 – Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 RTM. This is no doubt good news for Vista users as it means they will have access to SP2 soon. I say soon because Microsoft, despite having announced Vista SP2 RTM, has not made the software available for download, not has it announced a public release date for the service pack (a vague Q2 2009 release scenario was mentioned though).
Windows Communications Manager on the Windows Client Communications Team, Brandon LeBlanc comments: “We are announcing the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) of Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. SP2 represents the latest step in Microsoft’s commitment to continuous improvement. It includes all updates that have been delivered since SP1, as well as support for new types of hardware and emerging hardware standards. We expect Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 SP2 to be publicly available in Q2 2009.”

Windows Vista build 6002.18005 is the official RTM build of Windows Vista Service Pack 2. It was made available to MSDN subscribers on 28 April 2009, and released to the Microsoft Download Center and Windows Update on 26 May 2009.
