Why does SCM (System Control Manager?) — produce so many temp files?

Hi, I’m finding on my Win7 64bit there are dozens of small logfiles being generated by SCM — It seems there’s an average of about one more created per hour — but it’s not an evenly spaced time between them. Inside them there’s hiASCII
so I don’t know what data is being stored. I’m cleaning them up — but they’re continually being regenerated.As they’re only a 1kb filesize but if I don’t clean up for a few days there’s quite a lot of them leftover in the path «C:\windows\System32\Logfiles\scm»
On a win7 32bit there’s a similar behaviour occurring.
My Vista 32bit only seems to produce a couple of them per day, but these range in size from 448k to 1.2Mb — with many system services being recorded there.
Is there some way to allow SCM to do whatever it does — but without generating all these logfiles?

Hi,
I would like you to know some third party software also will write log into C:\windows\System32\Logfiles\scm. Therefore, it depends on what software
you installed.Check if the following article is helpful.

On server running 2008 R2 SP1, I have found the following path c:\windows\system32\logs\scm<o:p></o:p>
This folder has files placed in the folder daily, each new file appears to be 1 KB each, the extension type cannot be displayed after selecting show extension in folder
view. Each appears to have a strange long alpha-numberic naming convention…<o:p></o:p>

There appear to be several of them per day some within all within the same minute and others with a time stamp further back within the same day.<o:p></o:p>
I am not sure what would cause this to occur, I looked in Administrative Events in Event Viewer and it seem to have a lot of these occurring <o:p></o:p>

However, I am not sure that is related to these files listed above within the SCM folder. The main question is, How can
