Are you getting a problem when installing the most recent version of WSL2 on Windows 21H2? If yes then you are not alone because A number of users complain about error code 0x80070661 appearing when trying to install Windows Subsystem for Linux Update 5.10.93.2. After they click on “Install now”, the Windows Update Settings page shows the said error code with a message “Update failed, there were problems installing some updates, but we’ll try again later”.
The first 4 digits of the error, 0x8007, indicate that it’s a Win32 error, and the last 4, 0x0661 hex = 1633 dec explanation is “This installation package is not supported by this processor type. Contact your product vendor.” It seems that the company has pushed an ARM64 package to x64 users or messed up the update or something of sorts. Let’s see the solutions –

This is true even if you have enabled virtualization in the BIOS. The error occurs because WSL is not enabled by default, so you have to do it yourself.
To do this, open the start menu and start typing Turn Windows feature on or off .
Click on the result to open and scroll to the bottom of the list. You need to enable two features:

The installation is quick, just a few seconds. After that, you have to restart Windows.
I’ve been running VB on Windows 11 for a while. I recently became aware of a new version and downloaded the program to perform the upgrade. (The installer is VirtualBox-7.0.10-158379-Win.exe.) When I run it, the installer gets part way through and then the progress bars run in reverse as the installer says «rolling back action.» Before exiting it informs me the Setup Wizard «ended prematurely because of an error.» Not very specific! It recommends I try again at a later time.
I rebooted, installed updates (there wasn’t much to install) and rebooted again for good measure. No improvement.
I tried to uninstall the currently installed program and encountered a similar rollback with no explanation.
I looked on the forums here and found the way to generate a log using the —logging option. I did that.
