Log into your dedicated or cloud server as administrator.
Click on: Start
Click on: Control Panel
Under: Control Panel
On the top right
View By: (Click drop down) Category
Click on: Small Category
Click on: Network and Sharing Center
Under: Control Panel Home (Left Pane)
Click on: Change advanced settings
Under: Change sharing options for different network profiles
Choose drop down:
1. Private Network
2. Guest and Public Network
3. All Networks
Fill in chooses:
Network Discovery
1. When network discovery is on, this computer can see other network computers and devices and is visible to other network computers.
Fill in: (Turn on network discovery)
Click on: Save Changes

Some MS Security updates or network changes can disable the Network Discovery setting in an effort to secure your server. Unfortunately this can also render many network services unusable.
Traditionally, one is able to turn on file and print sharing and network discovery under: «Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings». Unfortunately, under Windows Server variants, one may not be able to change it, the «Save changes» button remains dimmed/unavailable.
If changing it is not available through the Network and Sharing Center, try the «Group Policy Editor (GPO)»:
Click «Start», type «gpedit.msc» in shte search box, and press enter.
Navigate to: Computer Policy\Policies\Administrative Templates\Network\Link-Layer Topology Discovery
Click on the setting: «Turn on Mapper I/O (LLTDIO) driver»
After that, you can navigate back and check the setting under «Network and Sharing Center».

In order to enable the Network Discovery on a computer, on a domain or workgroup, make sure the following services are enabled and running in Windows 7, 8.1, Server 2008 and Server 2012:
- DNS Client
- Function Discovery Resource Publication
- SSDP Discovery
- UPnP Device Host
Windows 8.1 and Server 2012:
To Check the Services:
1 At the Desktop take your mouse and put it in the upper right hand corner of your screen.
2. Click Settings in the charm bar
3. Click Control Panel
4. Click Administrative Tools
5. Click Services
6. Once you are in Services, you will need to enable each service and make sure it is set to Start Automatically
To Enable the Services:
1. Right-click on the Service | choose PROPERTIES.
2. Change Startup type to AUTOMATIC.
3. Click APPLY and then START.
4. Close out of that Service and proceed to the next one.
Windows 7 and Server 2008:
To check the Services:
1. Go to Start | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services.
2. Once you are in Services, you will need to enable each service and make sure it is set to Start Automatically.
To enable the Services:
1. Right-click on the Service | choose PROPERTIES.
2. Change Startup type to AUTOMATIC.
3. Click APPLY and then START.
4. Close out of that Service and proceed to the next one.
If all these services are running you will be able to modify the Network Discovery settings.
Once all services are enabled, Network Discovery will automatically enable.
WARNING : This does not work Windows Server Core
Some folk have been arriving to this post hoping to find a solution for Windows Server Core might need to look elsewhere. I’ve only tested this on Windows Server 2012.

We need to make sure the following services are running

Firewall requirements
Check whether respective firewall rules are both set to Allow and also Enabled
Get-NetFirewallRule -DisplayGroup "Network Discovery" | ft
Get-NetFirewallRule -DisplayGroup "File and Printer Sharing" | ft
If not, allow and enable them
