Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

The seventh installment in the controversial Grand Theft Auto series – one of the most popular game franchises in history that brought Rockstar Games company international fame. The series has been letting the player start as a petty criminal and work his way to the top of the criminal underground. This next part of the series is the biggest one so far, featuring world – the State of San Andreas – almost three times larger than Vice City. Among many innovations, there are several thing worthy of mention: improved AI of civilians, option to recruit gang members, increased number of interactive buildings, hunger factor, swimming, and new means of transportation (e.g. bicycles). On top of that, there game features numerous extra activities, highlighting the sandbox character of gameplay. The game features the atmosphere of the 1990s, apparent in both the graphics and the soundtrack available via the numerous in-game radio stations.

FIFA 14

A soccer simulation game, and the 21st installment in the FIFA series. The game was created by EA Canada development studio. As always, you can control players from your favorite teams in matches against living opponents or computer AI. FIFA 14’s data base contains 15 thousand footballers from several dozen leagues from all over the world. As compared with the previous FIFA games, FIFA 14 brings about some crucial changes to gameplay mechanics, including improved ball physics. Furthermore, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions employ a new game engine, called Ignite (used also in Madden NFL 25), that ensures high quality graphics.

Plants vs Zombies

A game belonging to the popular tower defense genre. It’s theme, however, is rather unusual, for the players’ task is to protect their household against the attacking hordes of zombies. The game was developed by PopCap Games — a company popular for successful arcade-logic games, such as Peggle Deluxe or Bejeweled. In Plants vs Zombies, the levels are made of paths along which the zombies are coming. The player’s task is to secure each of those paths. Interestingly, the player’s fortification comprises of various plants and flowers growing outside of their house. Each kind of plant has a unique ability. These include things like production the in-game currency, attacking, slowing down the enemies, or exploding in front of them. Zombies are equally diversified — there are many types of attackers, differing in appearance, equipment, and armor. All the subtleties of gameplay are gradually revealed and explained to the players. The game stands out with its atmosphere of comedy, deprived of serious undertones and tension. This was achieved mainly by colorful visuals and a cheerful soundtrack.

Need for Speed: Undercover

After the slightly more realistic ProStreet, in which the players raced on professional racing circuits, the popular Need for Speed series returns to city streets with a traditional, arcade installment. Developed by a Canadian EA branch, Undercover puts a special emphasis on the storyline. As an undercover cop, the player has to infiltrate the ranks of a racing gang. To do so, they have to prove their worth in a series of driving challenges, including regular races, time trials, highway battles and outruns. As usual, the players receive a massive number of licensed cars which can be modified both visually, and in terms of their performance. The game’s improved visuals and excitable soundtrack are complemented by cinematic cutscenes featuring mainly Maggie Q (Mission: Impossible III) and Christina Milian — a singer.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2

An action adventure sequel to the 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man. Developed by Beenox Inc, a Canadian studio also responsible for such games featuring the Marvel’s superhero as Spider-Man 3: The Game, Spider-Man: Edge of Time and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. The story in the game loosely translates the adventures from the movie directed by Marc Webb into a video game setting. Players, who assume the role of the titular Spider-Man, have to find the assassin who murdered Peter Parker’s uncle — Ben. During the game, the player has to face numerous comic-book villains, including Electro, Kingpin, Black Cat, Green Goblin, and more. The sandbox gameplay mechanics give the players the freedom to explore the virtual version of Manhattan while completing assigned tasks.

The Sims 3

The third major installment in a life simulation game series, The Sims. The title was developed by The Sims Studio in cooperation with Maxis and Electronic Arts. As per usual, The Sims 3 lets you take control of a life of a virtual character from the cradle to the grave. Your job is to provide for the needs of your family of Sims when it comes to their social interactions, family matters, and career. The Sims 3 introduces two significant novelties to the game: lifetime wishes and a personality system that attributes 5 dominant character features to each Sim. As compared with previous installments in the franchise, the game’s 3D visuals were significantly improved.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit

Another installment in one of the most popular racing game series, developed since 1995 by Electronic Arts. Criterion Games, a team popular mainly for the Burnout console series, was entrusted with the task of creating this installment. The title of the game refers to the two earlier installments that featured police pursuits, released in 1998 and 2002 respectively. In the game, the player can pick their side and play either as a cop or a racer. A set of gadgets was introduced into the gameplay, emphasizing the arcade nature of the series. Cops can deploy spike strips and set up road blocks, while the racers can use things like radar jammers. As usual, the game features dozens of licensed cars and a soundtrack including numerous popular songs. The Autolog system is a completely new feature, the role of which is to organize a network of players allowing them to compete against each other.

Terraria

A sandbox platform game by indie studio Re-Logic, sometimes called the 2D version of the popular Minecraft. There is no set goal; your task is basically to shape the randomly-generated world around you. At first you only have a few basic tools, which allow you to dig and find resources, chop wood, and create simple structures. As the game progresses, due to the extensive crafting system, you discover better tools, allowing you to create advanced materials and to fight monsters. There are many possibilities in the game, and the only restriction is your own imagination. Terraria features a single player mode, but you can join forces with other players, thus gaining precious allies, who can help you with the more challenging tasks.

Five Nights at Freddy’s

An original horror game created by Scott Cawthon, an independent gamemaker. The player assumes the role of a watchman who takes up a seasonal job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. What is important about the restaurant, is that mechanical mascots are its main attraction. A seemingly easy job turns into a true nightmare during the very first night, when the protagonist discovers that the sympathetic animatronics come to life after dark and display a hostile attitude towards humans. Trapped in a cramped watch room, the protagonist has to avoid contact with murderous robots during five subsequent nights. The task is not easy, because using various devices, such as lighting and monitoring systems, as well as locking the door drains the power supply, which has to be appropriately managed throughout the entire night. Despite its simplistic mechanics, Five Nights at Freddy’s provides a good dose of anxiety and is capable of frightening the player with ease.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 provides a continuation to an unusual game created by Scott Cawthon and awarded a series of prizes — it was considered the most original horror title of 2014. In this second installment, the player takes on the role of a new watchman working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. Despite the warnings received from his predecessor, he decided to give it a try and stay at the restaurant overnight. Although the entire building was rebuilt and the famous animatronics were gifted with completely new software along with a face recognition system, the robots are still hungry for human lives after dark. Surviving five subsequent nights at the restaurant turns out to be quite a challenge. In terms of the mechanics, the second installment is based on a slightly modified gameplay formula of the original game. Instead of being in charge of a lighting system, the protagonist is equipped with only a flashlight. The watch room has one entrance only now, but without a door. Thus the only way to avoid getting killed by the animatronics here is to put on a special mask which fools the face recognition systems of the robots.

Angry Birds Epic

The tenth title in Rovio’s bestselling series of games, which is another stage of experimentation with the proven formula of the series, this time aimed at a simple RPG in fantasy reality. The plot of the game revolves around the red bird Red, who arrives at the Pig Island in order to retrieve eggs stolen by vicious Piglets.

Angry Birds Space

Angry Birds Space is the fourth, full-fledged version of the extremely popular series of arcade and logic games, developed by Rovio Mobile studio. This time the title «furious birds» have to face greedy, green pigs in space. The creators have prepared a number of novelties in the game, including an advanced physics model, reflecting different gravity forces in the Cosmos.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 4

The fourth and final installment of the independent horror game series by Scott Cawthon. In Five Nights at Freddy’s 4, we have to face the murderous animatronic toys yet again. Compared to its predecessors, the title’s gameplay formula has been changed. While plying, we do not assume the role of a security guard anymore, but a small child that has to survive the five eponymous nights in his own home which is overrun by bloodthirsty toys. We cannot track their movements by a monitoring system and have to check out each of the five available locations (two parts of a kid’s bedroom, cabinet, and left and right hall) on our own. For the first time in history of the series, we can run, peek through the door, look into the cabinet, and turn around. Our only weapon is the flashlight that lets us scare the animatronics away.

The Sims: Medieval

The Sims: Medieval is a spin-off installment of the popular life simulator The Sims. The title was developed by Maxis. As the title suggests, the game takes place during the Middle Ages, albeit with a humorous spin. Similarly as in the other Sims games, the player must take care of the needs of the virtual characters. Depending on selected profession (for example king, knight, wizard, bard, blacksmith), the events are shown from different perspective and the available missions vary. The creators of The Sims: Medieval focused on immersion and allowed the players to have strong impact on the shape of the game world, including the looks of the characters.

Sid Meier’s Pirates!

Sid Meier’s pirates! is a new version of the classic from the 80s. Similarly to the original version, it is a mix of features of action games, adventure games and cRPGs. The game takes place during the age of the pirates in the Caribbean.

Angry Birds Star Wars

Angry Birds Star Wars is the fifth installment of one of the most popular logic-arcade games in the world. This time, in the well known production of Rovio Mobile, Furious Birds are fighting piggies in the universe of Star Wars.

60 Seconds!

A post-apocalyptic survival strategy game with RPG elements, created by Polish developer Robot Gentleman Studios. You play as the head of a typical American family, who has to provide for his loved ones in the face of an incoming nuclear war. The game starts 60 seconds before the first explosion, giving you one minute to get to a shelter while grabbing the most essential provisions on the way. In the next phase you have to survive for as long as you can using only the resources you’ve managed to gather, which often force you to make very tough decisions. Sometimes, you have to decide whose daily rations should be reduced, sometimes how to deal with problems at hand, such as a cockroach infestation. Despite its seemingly grim theme, the game features a rather light-hearted atmosphere, evident e.g. in its comic-like graphics.

Beach Buggy Racing

Beach Buggy Racing is a racing game for the Vector Unit team, allowing them to take part in a small go-kart racing competition on a dozen or so tracks located on a tropical island. Production focuses on dynamics and effective actions and has no realism for anything.

Halo: Spartan Assault

A spin-off of the legendary Halo shooter, prepared mainly for mobile and PC players. The title was created by the new developers of the series from 343 Industries studio in cooperation with Vanguard Games, and its characteristic feature is presenting the gameplay in isometric perspective. The story of the game was placed between events known from the 3rd and 4th Halo games and it reveals the backstory of the first missions of Spartan Ops and the conflict between humans and the Covenant race.

Halo: Spartan Strike

Halo: Spartan Strike is an isometric sequel to Halo: Spartan Assault, a mobile/PC spin-off of the legendary FPS series. The game was created by two studios, 343 Industries and Vanguard Games, and takes place at the same time as Halo 2. Once again, we play as Spartan Davis, who, leading 30 UNSC units, explores 30 diversified levels and faces hordes of space invaders. We will use all kinds of weapons and special abilities characteristic to the series. Spartan Strike features slightly improved visuals and modified controls. Additionally, the Windows 8 version of the game was included with Halo: Master Chief Collection, just like Spartan Assault. This allows us to unlock additional content for the multiplayer.
