Windows live essentials download

The last version of the Windows Live Essentials software suite. You can no longer download Windows Live Essentials from Microsoft or use the web downloader.

Windows Live Essentials was a free software suite available for Windows, it included a photo gallery, video editor, email client, blogging word processor, OneDrive (an online storage client), and a messaging application. If you run the installer on Windows 7, you can install Family Safety, which adds parental controls features in Windows 7. Since this service is online connected, it probably doesn’t work with web reports, as was touted as a headline feature. When it was still being supported and new versions were being released, it was feature-rich software suite.

Windows Live Essentials 2012 has:

• Photo Gallery
• Movie Maker
• Mail (support limited)
• Messenger (no longer functional)
• Writer (newer version available, note: Newer version no longer developed directly by Microsoft)
• OneDrive (newer version available)
• Family Safety (Windows 7 only)

You must be running Windows 7 or later to run Windows Live Essentials 2012. Note that some functionality, such as Messenger, no longer function.

What do I need Windows Essentials for?

Microsoft distributes this collection of free programs to provide the user with useful tools that expand the possibilities of the operating system:

• Movie Maker: tool focused on basic video editing and homemade films.
• Photo Gallery: this photograph gallery is an editing tool and very easy-to-use photograph publication.
• Mail: the free email manager of Microsoft.
• Writer: program to create and publish your blog.
• Family Safety: parental control by Microsoft, essential to know what your children access. This option is only installed on Windows 7, because Windows 8 includes a parental control application per default.
• SkyDrive: access the online storage system by Microsoft.

Messenger has been replaced by Skype. You can now update Skype to chat with your friends. Discover all its possibilities as an instant messaging application.

Committed to simplicity

In Windows Essentials you will find all the programs included in prior versions, except Windows Live Mesh which is substituted by the striking SkyDrive. But, in its commitment to simplicity, Microsoft has shortened the names of the applications. Thus, Windows Live Essentials is now known simply as Windows Essentials.

Renovation of Movie Maker and Photo Gallery

The two applications of the Windows Essentials pack that have received more modifications are Movie Maker and Photo Gallery.

Thus, from now on it will be very easy to upload contents to Vimeo directly from Photo Gallery, thanks to a new plug-in. Another innovation is the AutoCollage function which allows us to create compositions from images automatically.

Movie Maker includes a function which makes it easier to add a voiceover to your videos, options to highlight the desired audio channel, visualization of waveforms from sound channels…, even the integration of various music shops to carry out online downloads.
