What is a desktop wallpaper? When you boot your computer, there is an initial screen that comes up, in which your folders, documents, and software shortcuts are placed. The background of this screen can be a single colour, multiple colours, or some other graphical representations. A desktop wallpaper is highly customizable, and you can give yours a personal touch by adding your images (including your photos from a camera) or download beautiful pictures from the internet. What you need to know is that these images that you add will neither increase nor decrease the speed of your computer.

What is the use of a desktop wallpaper? Well, adding a wallpaper to your desktop is not mandatory. In fact, you can decide to use a dark colour, and life will move on as usual. However, this element comes with a sense of beauty. They add glamor to your computer and make it look aesthetically appealing and highly presentable. Sometimes, people display their feelings through the use of desktop wallpapers. Interesting, huh? You can add an image that shows how you feel or one that means something to you. Adding a quote will act as a reminder of what inspires you in your day-to-day life. That said, desktop wallpapers cannot be ignored, they mean different things to different people.

Can I design desktop wallpapers? Yes, you can! You do not need to be a graphic designer for you to do this. All you need to do is to know how to save images as wallpapers, and there you go! You will have a wallpaper that suits your needs and preferences.

How do I make an image my desktop wallpaper? You can do this by following a simple process: 1. Select a photograph from your collection. 2. Right-click the image and select the option to set it as your background. Once you are done, you can play around with an array of 3D, screen resolution, and tiling options available, and choose one that befits you.

В Windows 10 есть интересная функция, которая называется «Windows: интересное» (иначе — Windows spotlight)! Эта функция предназначена для автоматической загрузки и дальнейшей установки на экран блокировки разнообразных фоновых изображений…

Чтобы увидеть файлы с этими изображениями, вам вначале необходимо включить в системе отображение скрытых файлов (элементов)! Делается это в Проводнике Windows с помощью установки галочки в пункте Скрытые элементы на вкладке Вид. Далее необходимо в Проводнике открыть диск С (или любой другой, на котором установлена операционная система) и перейти по данному пути:

Открыв папку Assets, вы обнаружите определённое количество файлов, не имеющих расширения, с длинными именами. Часть из этих файлов как раз и являются фоновыми изображениями для экрана блокировки (размер которых, в основном, более 100 Кб)! Для выполнения дальнейших действий лучше будет скопировать эти файлы в любую папку на рабочем столе. А затем можете приступать к их переименованию, например: 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg и т.д. После переименования и создания расширения для этих файлов, их можно открыть с помощью «Средства просмотра фотографий Windows» (или любого другого графического редактора).

Delightful memories radiate out from the heart of our iconic four-square logo—celebrating Microsoft’s 50th anniversary while tapping into Windows product nostalgia. The designer and creative director Chris Palazzo knows the impact on fans firsthand. He’s an ‘80s kid who grew up around floppy discs and dot matrix printers as part of his family PC business. “I started on DOS. Every single time a Windows release happened—my mind was blown.” Even today, he has an almost Pavlovian response to the iconic Windows 95 startup screen with a blue sky.

Microsoft Mahjong

Launched in 2012, Microsoft’s Mahjong game is stronger than ever on Microsoft Casual Games. It’s also the inspo for designer You Zhang’s rich, detailed Wallpaper designs. Zhang loved reconnecting with nostalgic influences like classic Windows 95 UI and childhood games like Minesweeper. He says, “It’s nice to be nostalgic. There’s real value in merging retro with modern styles to make memorable designs that appeal across generations.”

Cascading Solitaire

Watching Solitaire cards animate at the end of each hand is hands-down one of the most visually satisfying design moments for art director Yulia Makhmudova. So, she jumped at the chance to use the cascade effect for a 50th anniversary wallpaper—arranging Solitaire cards in a grand “50.” Makhmudova is no stranger to classic Windows games. Playing 3D Pinball on the family computer as a kid is her fondest flashback. “It was so fun—down to the details and sound effects!” Back then, she spent way too many hours creating user profiles for family members in Windows XP. Her favorite avatar: the fish!

Yellow tulips

Makhmudova had so much fun creating her first 50^th wallpaper, she decided to geek out some more. The question that informed her process: “What else can I ‘turn 50’?” Experimenting with the original Tulips motif—legendary during the Windows XP era with Bliss—she brought more spring to the design with 50 yellow buds. Dark mode welcomed a hazier, more mysterious twin. “Through the lens of nostalgia and dozens of experiments, I had a chance to play with colors, materials and new techniques—and collaborate with super-talented designers.”
