Based on tihiy’s old «Windows 7 Explorer on Windows 8» project, we have accounted for many COM objects and functions that have been removed between 8.1 and 10’s development, resulting in a fixed version of this old program for newer Windows versions! I would like to remind you that this is a GROUP EFFORT. Almost everything wouldn’t have been possible without help from the explorer7 staff. THIS PROJECT IS IN A PRE-RELEASE TESTING STAGE. FULL FUNCTIONALITY ISN’T GUARANTEED. REDISTRIBUTION ON CUSTOM ISOs/TRANSFORMATION PACKS/UNATTENDED INSTALLS IS NOT ALLOWED DURING THE PRE-RELEASE TESTING STAGE. Current beta aims for full Windows 8.1 support. While it works on Windows 10 (although more buggy), we have not tested extensively against Windows 11, so do expect a worse experience on that operating system. Support for Windows 11 right now is merely coincidental with 10 support. There are no plans for a 32-bit version, so please refrain from asking for one. The explorer.exe executable does not handle File Explorer windows, it only manages the Start Menu and Taskbar. If you wish to restore the command bar, use explorer7 in combination with other customization software. INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS — Import the «Import Me.reg» file included in the zip file to the registry. — Open up ex7forw8.exe. Locate your Windows 7 files and continue the installation. — Enjoy! Post by vruh2 on Sept 4, 2024 16:05:54 GMT -8Extra Indication For Windows 10 users, if you wish to have active glass colorization w/OpenGlass Legacy on the start menu, you can use the included «glass.wh.cpp» mod by schm1dt (now gone from the community) which was previously used on glass8. Also, make sure your system msstyles isn’t named «aero.msstyles» as that can cause some colorization artifacts. This is temporary. Attachments:

The file explorer is almost entirely handled by explorerframe.dll and shell32.dll. So, this means explorer7 handles the taskbar + start menu (and everything that comes with it). |

Actually yeah, Vista’s and XP x64’s explorers both work with the explorer7 wrapper. However, we’re gonna focus on getting explorer7 fully finished and 1.0’d before we start branching out to other explorers and get more work done. But right now they do run and work. (Vista’s start menu doesn’t open right now and XP x64’s barely works) |
