   [RESOLVED] Window 7 FIx to WinHelp Error [1037]
   

   With the installation of VB5 on Window 7 (32 bit) , Help did NOT work.
   Installed Microsoft’s recommended KB, which allowed VB Help to show, but Help examples were missing.
   Received Error: «There was a problem running the macro (1037).

   Finally found a fix using Regedit.

   1) Create Key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WinHelp
   2) Create a DWORD SubKey with name» «AllowProgrammaticMacros» ‘<<One word, and no quotes
   3) Give SubKey a value of «1» ‘<<no quotes

   Hope this help someone else.

   The above will NOT work for Windows 7 64b Systems, where you have to use the following procedure using Regedit:

   1) Create Key: HKLM/SOFTWARE/Wow6432Node/Microsoft/WinHelp
   2) Create a DWORD SubKey with name» «AllowProgrammaticMacros» ‘<<One word, and no quotes
   3) Give SubKey a value of «1» ‘<<no quotes

   After doing the above you may receive the following error when trying to open a .hlp extensions file:

   —————————
   Windows Help
   —————————
   Cannot find or load the file inetwh32.dll. This file should be copied to C:\Windows\system32 or a directory in your PATH.
   —————————
   OK
   —————————

   Meaning you will have to download the missing file “inetwh32.dll”

   ATTENTION: After downloading the above file do NOT copy it to:

   “C:\Windows\system32”, instead, copy it to:

   “C:\Windows\SysWOW64”

   That’s it, the error is now fixed for your Windows 7 64b System.

   «There was a problem running the macro. (1037)»
   That’s the message I get each time I call on VB6’s Help facility.
   Then I click «OK» and I can see the requested Help page,
   but «See Also», «Example», and «Specifics» are grayed out as inaccessible.
   I am still able to annotate Help pages.
   I worked with VB6 previously on a machine with Windows XP,
   then migrated to the present one with Vista.
   Is there a fix for Problem 1037?

   I ran a Google search on this error message and was referred to
   <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607> for an update.
   I downloaded the update, but when I began installing it I got a message like «This update doesn’t apply to your system».
   I had chosen the supposedly «right» version for my 32-bit Vista.

   Are you actually running VB6 or is this an office product you are referring to?
   The term Macro is not commonly heard outside of office.

   Thanks for responding, Miser. I think my VB is Version 6, not 5 (but «Help>About» doesn’t help me confirm this).
   I’m not sure what you mean by «office».
   The error message has the header «Windows Help»—does this help you pinpoint its source?

   By Office I mean MS Office, such as Excel or Access, they use Macros and include VBA which many mistake for VB6.
   VB6 is a separate stand alone product for building exes, dlls and ocxs

   I am using VB6 to build exes.
   I found a supposed solution on another forum. It says

   3) Give SubKey a value of «1» ‘<<no quotes

   I’ve learned that Regedit is a way to edit your registry. I’m not sure what the registry is, but I imagine it must be edited ve-e-e-ery carefully. Can someone break down these instructions to where they tell me exactly what to do?

   I am power-builder programmer, in 1997 i made program for my company using pb ver 5.00, the o.s was windows 95 now i have ms windows 8.1 i got the same error message so i searched and found very good solution at the next link so thanks to The FaultWire Team the link is http://www.faultwire.com/solutions-W…elp-*1394.html

   Thanks, dawood!
   I followed the instructions that you indicated, up to step 5: «On the edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.»
   Pointing to New opened a submenu, with the option «Key»—but _all_ options are in gray, not Enabled.
   Maybe this is because I didn’t perform step 1: «Log on by using an administrator account.»
   I didn’t understand how to do this part.
