Windows 11 already offers the ability to set up slideshows for wallpapers which change at a regular time interval. However, its nowhere close to the dynamic wallpaper found on MacOS which changes wallpapers according to the time of the day or whether it’s day or night.
That said, you can still get a pretty similar feature on your Windows 11 PC by following the steps we have listed below:
Step 1: Installing WinDynamicDesktop
First and foremost you will need to install a free app called WinDynamicDesktop as shown in the steps below:
- Click on search, type Windows Store and open the first search result.
- In the Windows Store click on search, type WinDynamicDesktop and click on the second entry. (image 1)
- Now that you’ve reached the WinDynamicDesktop’s app page click on install (image 2) [the screenshot says open as i already have the app installed].
Step 2: Configuring & Setting up WinDynamicDesktop
Now that you’ve installed the new app, you will need to run the app and configure it to your liking. You can do so by following the steps we’ve listed below:
- Click on search, type WinDynamicDesktop and open the first search result.
- Right-click on the WinDynamicDesktop icon that appears in the right corner of the taskbar and click on select theme.
- In the new window that opens select the theme that you like and hit apply to set it as a wallpaper.
In case you want to import a wallpaper of your choice then you can also do so by following these advanced steps:
- Create and download a .ddw file from a group of custom images or a .heic file that you like using a simple online tool that can be found on https://ddw-theme-creator.vercel.app/ (image 1).
- Once downloaded, go back to WindDynamicDesktop app, then click import from file and select the .ddw file that you just downloaded. (image 2)

When Windows 11 first debuted in 2021, it did so with one of the biggest changes to the Windows desktop in over a decade. It was the first version of Windows since Windows 8 to radically change up the Start menu and Taskbar, moving their position and altering their functionality.
Famously, Windows 11 introduced the first centered Start menu and Taskbar, along with other modern and simplified interfaces across the Windows shell. It also introduced a number of new static wallpapers designed to highlight the new centered interfaces, the most famous of which is the default Windows 11 wallpaper known as «Bloom.»
In additional to static wallpapers, Microsoft has since explored bringing dynamic wallpapers to Windows 11, which would let users set live wallpapers on their desktop or lockscreen that would gently animate in the background. Thanks to Sergey Kisselev, an ex-Microsoft designer on the Windows team, we now know what these may look like.
«A variety of dynamic animations and still images were explored for Microsoft’s low-cost devices, primarily targeting educational users» says Kisselev on Behance. «This work was part of the Windows Creative Direction Team’s efforts to celebrate a new centered signature composition for Windows 11, highlighting its centered Start Menu and taskbar.»
Kisselev has shared a handful of examples, which showcase different dynamic wallpaper designs that Microsoft explored for education customers. Unfortunately, dynamic wallpapers as a feature is yet to actually ship for Windows 11, suggesting the feature may have been canceled, or at the very least postponed.
Early support for dynamic wallpapers has been spotted in Windows 11 Insider builds in the past. I understand that Microsoft originally intended to bring dynamic wallpapers to Windows 11 with version 23H2, but that ended up not happening for some reason.
Whether support for dynamic wallpapers ever ships remains to be seen. For now, we can only hope the feature is still coming, and that it’ll hopefully be ready in time for the annual Windows 11 feature update for 2025.

Мы бы рекомендовали использовать HD 4K Живые обои тем юзерам, кто уже скачал видео, которое будет установлено в качестве живых обоев, или нашел на него ссылку на YouTube.
- Отыщите страницу приложения HD 4K Живые обои по названию в магазине и нажмите кнопку «Получить».
- После установки щелкните по «Открыть» или используйте для запуска значок, который должен автоматически добавиться в меню «Пуск».
- Окно у HD 4K Живые обои минималистичное. На выбор предлагается два варианта работы и список для переключения экранов, если таких используется несколько. По умолчанию будет выбран режим воспроизведения локального файла, а для выбора конкретного видео понадобится нажать кнопку «Browse».
- Если вам больше подходит использование ролика с YouTube без предварительного скачивания файла на компьютер, поставьте галочку возле пункта «YouTube/Niconico Video» и вставьте ссылку в поле ниже.
- Остается только нажать «play», чтобы запустить воспроизведение.
- Больше в HD 4K Живые обои никаких настроек нет, поэтому вы можете просто просматривать воспроизведение живых обоев на рабочем столе, время от времени менять их или останавливать проигрывание через меню программы.

- Переключитесь на вкладку «Online» для поиска живых обоев, которые можно скачать на компьютер и использовать через DeskScapes. В списке слева вы найдете перечень доступных категорий, а справа увидите все варианты живых обоев.
- Выберите подходящее видео и нажмите «Download this background», чтобы скачать его на ПК и применить в качестве фона рабочего стола.

- Сначала скачайте Push Video Wallpaper по ссылке выше и установите программу в Windows 11.
- После запуска можете выбрать один из любых шаблонов, чтобы проверить воспроизведение живых обоев.
- Если нужно создать собственный профиль для дальнейшего добавления видео или ссылок с YouTube, нажмите по значку с изображением файла и выберите вариант «New».

Unfortunately, dynamic wallpapers are still not officially supported in Windows. While there were attempts to bring dynamic wallpapers support in insider builds, it never made it to a stable release.
