Microsoft has released Windows 10 build 16299 for PCs enrolled in the Fast ring. This time, participants of the Windows Insider Program are getting another minor update that doesn’t deliver new features or significant changes.
Windows 10 build 16299, according to the company, delivers a number of bugs regarding Microsoft Edge, Automatic File Download, and Windows Defender Antivirus to get the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update ready for the October 17, 2017, launch.
Along with this rollout, Microsoft is also making Windows 10 build 16296 available in the Slow ring.
Here’s a list of all the improvements included in this flight:
- Addressed an issue some Insiders were experiencing where after upgrading to recent flights their optical drive wouldn’t be listed under This PC.
- Fixed an issue where Microsoft Edge might crash when scrolling embedded PDFs.
- Addressed an issue resulting in some Insiders seeing 0x80070005 when trying to upgrade to the last few flights.
- Fixed an issue resulting in Windows Defender potentially downloading files selected to be online-only after using the file picker dialog and viewing their thumbnails.
- Addressed an issue where using the Automatic File Download notification to block an app from downloading files wasn’t working for UWP apps.

How to download Windows 10 build 16299
Although there are no ISO files for Windows 10 build 16299, the update is available immediately through the Fast ring for PCs. This preview build will download and install automatically on your device, but you can always force the update from Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button.

Another week, another Fall Creators Update Insider Preview built for Insiders in the Fast ring to test. Today’s build is 16299, includes a few new bug fixes in preparation for official launch on October 17th.

Windows 10 build 16299.0 is the twenty-third and final Insider Preview build of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. This build was released to Windows Insiders in the Fast Ring on 26 September 2017, then to Slow Ring users on 28 September 2017. It is an earlier compile of the RTM build.
An ARM64 architecture variant of this build is also known to exist, but has yet to be found.

Microsoft has finally released Windows 10 for PCs build 16299 ISO images on its Windows Insider download page. It’s the first since build 16296 was made available two weeks ago.
Normally, a new build gets released to the Slow ring, and then a few days later, the ISOs arrive. This has not been the case as of late. Build 16299 was offered up to the Slow ring on September 29, so it was surprising to see 16296 ISOs at all.
And then yesterday, Microsoft actually released the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, so at the time, you could actually get build 16299 via the Media Creation Tool, but not through the Insider download page. There are only three different builds available:
- Windows 10 Insider Preview
- Windows 10 Insider Preview Enterprise
- Windows 10 Insider Preview Home China
You’ll notice that Education and Home Single Language have been removed. These SKUs still exist, but Microsoft is combining the installation packages.

If you’re an Insider, you can use the above downloads for a clean installation of the Fall Creators Update. If you’re on the Fast ring, you’ve already been moved on to Redstone 4, and the Slow ring shouldn’t be too far behind on that.
