Windows 10 Mobile is the next major Windows Phone operating system upgrade. Just like Windows 10 for Desktop, for Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft has made an app called “Upgrade Advisor” for assisting you to get ready for Windows 10 Mobile Upgrade.
However currently, this app not available for download publicly just yet and still label as Beta. Here is the description of the app:
The Windows 10 Mobile Upgrade Advisor app will tell you if your Windows 8.1 phone is eligible for upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile. It can also help free up space on your phone so you’re ready for the upgrade. When you open the app, it checks your phone and lets you know if it’s eligible to upgrade, if an update is required before you can upgrade, or if your phone can’t be upgraded. See windows.com/mobilespecs for more information.
If your phone is eligible for the upgrade, you may need to free up some space to get it. The app will recommend files, such as videos or photos, that you can temporarily move to OneDrive or an SD card, if you have one installed. Accept the recommendations, or change which files you want to move. You can also delete some files, if you want. If you move files to OneDrive, you need to use the app to restore files back to your phone after Windows 10 Mobile is installed.
Windows 10 Mobile is expected to release by next week, this app helps you to get ready for Windows 10 Mobile upgrade. You can check out this Upgrade Advisor on Windows Store, however, you still can’t download it just yet.

Please be aware that the Upgrade Advisor AppX file you are to download is hosted on the Microsoft Store CDN server. You can read more about Upgrade Advisor or get it from Microsoft Store.
To try to install it manually from an SD card, you should choose one of the server location above to get the offline Upgrade Advisor AppX file, move the file to your phone’s SD card and then tap ‘Install local apps’ in the phone’s App list.

Yesterday, details emerged of a new ‘Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor’ app, including screenshots explaining that the app «provides information about upgrading to Windows 10 and helps you prepare your phone to install the upgrade.»
Today, the app’s listing was spotted by Gustave M (@gus33000) on the Windows Store — but it’s not yet available to download.

Listed as ‘Upgrade Advisor Beta’, the app was published by Microsoft’s ‘Internal Beta Account’, so it can’t be installed by those without the right permissions to do so. The app’s description reads:

Microsoft had originally planned to begin upgrading existing Windows Phone 8.1 handsets to Windows 10 Mobile last month, but delayed its release until early this year. However, upgrades are expected to begin next week, although one carrier said yesterday that it has already begun the rollout.

Finally, after a REALLY LONG WAIT. Microsoft has started rolling out Windows 10 Mobile to general consumers who have been waiting to upgrade from Windows Phone 8.1, but there is a catch. You will need to use UpgradeAssistant App to check if the upgrade is available on your device.
How to Check if you have an Upgrade?
Download the UpgradeAdvisor App from Microsoft Store
Once installed, it will check if the upgrade is available and how the device can be prepped. The chances are that it will get rid of some temporary files. Once it confirms that the update is available, you will need to check the box which says “Enable Windows 10 Upgrade”. After this, the device is provisioned for the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade.
Now Go to Settings > Phone Update > Check for Update. Keep pressing if you have all the time in the world. Else let it tell you on its own.
Should You Upgrade?
Million-dollar question. We don’t know because we don’t know if Windows 10 Mobile performs equally smoothly on all devices.
How to skip upgrading from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile?
If you are skeptical about the upgrade and want to wait for user feedback for a final go, then here is how to stop your phone from upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile from 8.1
- Go to Settings > Phone Update.
- Uncheck The “Automatically download updates” checkbox ticked.
- This way, you will get a notification about the download, but you won’t download the file unless you want to. Also, an automatic download will not start if connected over Wi-Fi.
Remember, the upgrade will download and sit on your phone. It’s up to you to install it. There is no way to roll back unless you have the ROM saved already.
