Windows 10 mobile screenshot

Windows Phone 7.5 – 7.8

В этих версиях возможность сделать принтскрин отсутствует.

Для снятия скриншота нужно одновременно нажать клавишу Windows и клавишу включения до щелчка, уведомляющего о сохранении снимка в галерее изображений.

Windows Phone 8.1

Чтобы сделать снимок экрана в этой версии ОС, необходимо одновременно нажать клавиши включения и увеличения громкости.

Windows 10 Mobile

Here’s how you can take a screenshot in Windows 10 Mobile using a simple key combination.

Windows 10 Mobile

Windows 10 Mobile is Microsoft’s latest foray into the world of smartphones, with big hopes to lure people from the other side of the fence to hop onboard. Whether Microsoft manages to succeed in that remains to be seen as users have just finally gotten to acquaint themselves with Windows 10 Mobile. And as they keep on using the company’s mobile OS, they’ll get to learn quite a few things over a span of time. But today, we’re jumping into the arena of the very basic — showing our readers how to take a screenshot, something which everyone should know about.

How To Take A Screenshot On Windows 10 Mobile

On older Windows Phone devices, the key combination for taking a screenshot was the Power + Start buttons. But over time, Microsoft rejigged a few things and has (hopefully) landed on something which everyone will remember from here on in — Power + Volume Up buttons. That key combination will instantly snap a screenshot and save it directly into the Photos app under the ‘Screenshots’ folder. You will, of course, get a confirmation if you pressed the key combination right the first time. If you can’t get it right, then don’t worry, a little practice will turn you into a pro.

If you try to take a screenshot using the old key combination of Power + Start, then it’s heartwarming to know that Microsoft has thrown in a prompt in Windows 10 Mobile making users aware that ‘something’s changed.’

Windows 10 Mobile has been off to a shaky start, with many users complaining of performance related issues and whatnot. Apart from the users themselves, I personally found Windows 10 Mobile to be a little disturbing when it comes to performance of third-party apps and very small things in general.

We’re certain that Microsoft can address a lot of things with a few simple software updates in the days and months to come, but it remains to be seen whether these little issues will end up damaging the overall desirability of Redmond’s mobile OS. After all, the likes of iOS and Android are extremely zippy in terms of performance even on older hardware, hence we’re quite certain things shouldn’t be that difficult for Microsoft to manage.

But given Microsoft’s current direction of focussing more on its desktop platform, it seems likely that it will be a while till we see a buttery smooth version of Windows 10 Mobile.

How to Take Screenshot on a Windows Phone

Windows Phone, released in 2010, is officially discontinued from production and won’t receive updates, security or otherwise. But that doesn’t mean that the millions of devices vanished into thin air after Microsoft’s decision. We feel empathy for those users, many of which purchased their device new from the store, not knowing what’s coming. Others have quickly moved to other platforms, and we’ve already demonstrated how to take an Android screenshot and how to take a screenshot on iOS devices. But for those who stayed loyal, here’s how to take a screenshot on Windows Phone.

What is a screenshot?

We’ve already made an in-depth explanation of screenshots. But for those that are in a time crunch and don’t have the time to read it, here is a short definition. A screenshot is a bitmap image of the visuals displayed on a computer, phone, TV, or a similar device. That image is generated at the exact moment a designated key is pressed or an option in a program or application is chosen.

Can you take a screenshot on Windows Phone 7, 7.5, and 7.8?

Microsoft never implemented an option to take screenshots by default on these operating systems. At that time, only people who received developer-unlocked phones were able to take screenshots for testing purposes. So, you cannot take a screenshot on Windows Phone 7, 7.5, or 7.8 versions.

Before you start, you need to know the layout of smartphones using these operating system versions. Look at the right side of the phone. You will spot either 3 or 4 buttons, depending on the model of the phone. In both cases, you only need to know about the first two buttons from the top, although they perform 3 functions. Those functions are Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power On/Off. The volume button is designed to look like a single button but is actually two buttons in one.

Now, look at the front of the phone. Although the older models used to have physical buttons for Back, Start (Windows logo), and Search, this is very unlikely with devices using Windows Phone 8 and later. It is almost guaranteed that those buttons won’t be buttons at all, but capacitive sensors under the glass that register your touch. Nonetheless, the layout will be the same. With that explained, these are the steps to take a screenshot on Windows Phone 8 –

  1. Navigate to the application or a screen you desire to capture in the form of a screenshot.
  2. Press on the Start ”button” (Windows logo) and the Power Off/On button at the same time.
  3. Keep holding until you either hear a camera shutter sound or you see Saving to Screenshots… at the notification bar in the top left corner of your screen, or both.

How to take a screenshot on Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows Phone 10

Only need to know about the first three functions and two buttons from the top. Those are Volume Up, Volume Down, and Power On/Off.

  1. Be on the screen or application you want to take a screenshot of.
  2. Press and hold down both Volume Up (first from the top on the right side of the phone) and the Power On/Off button at the same time.
  3. You will hear a camera shutter sound. Additionally, you will see a message that states Saving to Screenshots… in the top left corner of the screen.

Where are screenshots saved?

You first need to know that all screenshots taken are by default saved with a PNG image extension. Additionally, the base location is the phone’s internal memory in the majority of cases. But it can also be on an SD card, if you have one, and if you changed the operating settings for storing pictures. What makes it easy is the name of folders remains the same regardless.

Option 1.

  • On Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 Mobile. Open your Photos app.
  1. Open the Screenshots folder.
  2. You should see every screenshot you’ve taken.

Option 2.

  • On Windows 8.1. Open your Files app.
  • On Windows 10 Mobile. Open the File Explorer app.
    1. Based on your storage choice, navigate to the internal memory folder or the SD card folder.
    2. Open the Pictures folder.
    3. Locate the Screenshots folder and open it.
    4. You should see all of your screenshots inside.

Option 3.

There’s an easy way to see your screenshots if you own a Windows computer. This is useful if you want to see the screenshots on a bigger screen, if your phone screen is broken or malfunctioning, or if you want to keep a copy as a backup.

  1. Pick up a USB cable you received in the package with your Windows Phone.
  2. You’ll know which end to connect to your computer because it will look identical to that of a regular flash drive. Connect the other to a female port (typically at the bottom) on your Windows Phone. No drivers are required.
  3. Open My Computer/This PC. Open the new drive, called either WP7, WP8, or WP10.
  4. Navigate to the folder named Pictures, then to a folder named Screenshots.
  5. All of the screenshots you’ve taken will be inside.

How to take a screenshot on Windows Phone using a Windows computer?

Now that you know how to connect your Windows Phone to your Windows computer, you can also take screenshots there. This is useful if your phone screen is broken, or if the buttons we mentioned above stopped working.

  1. Download the official Project My Screen App for Windows Phone on your computer.
  2. Install and run the app.
  3. Connect your computer to your Windows Phone using the steps 1. and 2. above.
  4. A window will pop up on your phone, stating: A computer is trying to display your phone’s screen content. Are you okay with this?
  5. Tap on yes.
  6. A window mirroring your phone screen will appear on the screen of your computer.
  7. Go to the app or window you want to take a screenshot of.
  8. Option 1.
    1. Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard.
    2. On some keyboards, it’s shortened to Prnt Scrn or Prt Scn.
    3. Open Paint, Photoshop, GIMP, or any other image editing tool.
    4. Press CTRL (or Control) + V on your keyboard to paste the captured image into the program.
    5. Edit the image to your liking, and save it with a name and extension you want.
  9. Option 2.
    1. Open the Start bar by pressing the Windows logo key on your keyboard.
    2. Start typing ‘Snipping Tool‘ and open the app of the same name.
    3. Click on New in the top left corner.
    4. Highlight the part of the screen taken by the Windows Phone.
    5. Save the screenshot by clicking on the floppy disk icon in the middle of the menu.
    6. Choose the location, name, and extension of the image.

Sometimes, it is important to capture the amazing thing that is happening on your phone’s screen. The screenshots help you to post an interesting on your social media, report an issue to your developer, show off your funny conversation to the friends and more. Like Android and iOS, Windows Phone also has the support to take screenshots without installing a specific app. Even though the process has changed a little bit with the Windows 8.1 Update, you can capture interesting things on your Windows device with ease. Let us discuss how to take a screenshot on Windows Phone in this post.

Note: Users with Windows Phone 7.5 and below cannot take a screenshot on their device. The following guide will apply for Windows 8.1 and 10 mobiles.

Windows 10 Mobile Tip: Take a Screenshot ... Even While Using Continuum

Like previous Windows phone versions, Windows 10 Mobile supports taking screenshots with a secret button combination. But what about Continuum?

I was curious to see whether the normal way to take screenshots—by pressing the handsets Volume Up + Power buttons—would work with Continuum. But as it turns out, this works as it does without Continuum: It takes a screenshot of your phone’s screen only.

So how about the external display, which as you may recall, features a unique if somewhat limited desktop environment and lets you run compatible apps full-screen? How does one take a screenshot of that?

As it turns out, you do so just as you do in desktop versions of the Windows: You use the keyboard. And the same keyboard combination works, too: Just type WINKEY + PRTSCN to take a screenshot and have it save automatically to the Screenshots folder in Pictures.

What’s odd is that other screenshot-related keyboard shortcuts from desktop Windows do not work. That is, you can’t type PRTSCN to save a screenshot to the clipboard—or ALT + PRTSCN for just the active window. At least not that I could figure out. (The cross-app copy/cut/paste functionality in Windows 10 Mobile is clearly limited to that in desktop Windows.)
