New features and changes[edit | edit source]
Setup[edit | edit source]
The new upgrade screen has been introduced, which features a progress circle and additional progress information at the bottom.
User interface[edit | edit source]
[edit | edit source]
This is one of the first builds to remove the EnableXamlStartMenu
registry key to restore the old DirectUI-based start menu. It is still present, as seen in Windows Server 2016 build 10036, however different means must be used to enable it (such as manually patching the server SKU check). The functionality itself was not stripped out until the later stages of the development phase of Windows 10 November Update.
Several design tweaks have been made to the Start menu.
Settings[edit | edit source]
The design of controls and toggles have been updated in the Settings app.
Bugs and quirks[edit | edit source]
User interface[edit | edit source]
Opening a folder on the Start menu with sufficient items within it and then closing it again will cause its backend to crash, preventing access to the Start menu for a specific period of time.
Applications[edit | edit source]
The People, Mail, and Calendar applications fail to launch in this build as they do not install properly.

Windows 10 build 10036 has been a topic of conversation over the last few days. It includes a number of new features and changes which further improve the operating system. The build is also rumored to be leaking this weekend, so keep an eye out for that. As per every build that leaks (or is rumored to leak), we’ve created a super quick video demonstrating the new changes!
You can check out our video below. One feature which I was not able to get working is the new Install UI, which you can see here. All the other major changes are in the embedded video below, so give that a watch if you’re up for it.
Build 10036 was originally intended for Windows Insiders, but was not sent out to the public as it includes a number of nasty bugs. Microsoft could still opt to push out the build next week with a patch, or they’ll drop an entire new build for Insiders to play with. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Radu Tyrsina
Radu Tyrsina has been a Windows fan ever since he got his first PC, a Pentium III (a monster at that time).
For most of the kids of his age, the Internet was an amazing way to play and communicate with others, but he was deeply impressed by the flow of information and how easily you can find anything on the web.
Prior to founding Windows Report, this particular curiosity about digital content enabled him to grow a number of sites that helped hundreds of millions reach faster the answer they’re looking for.
Windows Defender
Internet Explorer
- Internet Explorer
Windows Phone
- OneNote Preview
- Параметры ПК получили новые инструменты управления приложениями;
Программы win32 отображаются вместе с приложениями WinRT;
Обновлены элементы пользовательского интерфейса;
Обновления можно получать через P2P;
Добавлены параметры Windows Defender (Защитника Windows);

Windows 10 Build 10036 is a pre-release build of the Microsoft Windows 10 operating system. This build leaked on 2015-03-14.
It was a candidate for release to Windows Insiders, however due to a few major bugs that seriously affected usability, Microsoft decided that it would not be released. These bugs include (but are not limited to):
- The People, Mail and Calendar apps will not open on this build.
- In some cases, opening a folder on the Start Menu with sufficient items within it, and then closing it again, will cause Start to crash and fail to open again for several minutes.
Build 10036 Start screen
This build is the first build to be either released or leaked publicly to include an semblance of transparency, as shown below.
The x64 Pro compile was leaked on 2015-03-14 to OSBetaArchive.

- Drag and drop added to task view
- Viewing windows open in other desktops can be disabled
- Transparency added to the Start menu

New screenshots of Windows 10 Build 10036 have leaked to the internet which showcase some changes which should be visible in the upcoming build for Insiders. The major change (but not the only one) is the network selection pane is now more compact compared to Windows 8/8.1. However, it is created in Metro/Modern style and is probably built on the WinRT/Modern apps API. Let’s see what else has changed.
The network flyout pane lists the available networks and allows you to connect/disconnect from them. In Windows 8, this flyout occupied the entire height of the screen and covered the notification area as well. Now it is much more compact.
As you can see, it still is touch friendly, and has a flat appearance.
From the screenshot above, you can see another change: Windows Defender icon is back in the notification area.
It was there in Windows Vista, but Microsoft removed it in Windows 7 and later. Now, they decided to restore it in Windows 10, bringing back fast access to Defender’s options and preferences.
The Aero Peek button is visible again at the far end of the taskbar:
The Settings app features a new set of options called «Apps and features». There you will find a list of installed apps with the ability to search through them.
Additionally, there is allegedly a new feature to drag an app onto a «New desktop» to automatically create the new desktop with that app. This is an improvement to the new Task View/Virtual Desktops feature. See the following video to see the Task View in action:
That’s it. Microsoft continue their work on Windows 10. I guess we can expect a new build very soon (via).
