In November 12, 2019, Microsoft released the latest feature update for Windows 10, version 1909 and at the next days will be available for download and installation via Windows Update for all users.
Windows 10 version 1909 shares the same system files as version 1903, and when you update your system to Windows 10 version 1909, you actually activate the new features that have already installed on the computer (but remain dormant), after installing the October 8, 2019—KB4517389–Monthly Quality update for Windows 10, version 1903.
How to Get the Windows 10 v1909 November 2019 Update.
Method 1. Update to Windows 10 version 1909 via Windows Update.
Method 2. Update Windows 10 to version 1909 with the Windows Update Assistant.
Method 3. Upgrade to Windows 10 v1909 using the Media Creation Tool.
Method 1. Update Windows 10 to version 1909 via Windows Update.
If you want to immediately download the Windows 10 November Update version 1909, navigate to Settings -> Update & security and click Check for Updates to download and install all the available important updates.
When done, look below, at the ‘Optional updates available’ section, and click the Download and install now link to download the Feature update to Windows 10, version 1909.
Once the download is completed, save you work, close all the open applications and click the Restart Now button, to install the update. (Of course, it’s not needed to install the update immediately and you can schedule the restart according your wish).
If after following the above steps, the Windows 10 Feature Update version 1909, doesn’t appear in Windows Update, then…
1. Download and install the latest Servicing stack update for Windows 10 version 1903.
2. Download and install the following Updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog:
- Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 (KB4517389)
- Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 (KB4524570)
3. Reboot your computer after the installation of the above updates.
4. Navigate to Settings -> Update & security and click Check for Updates.
5. If the Windows 10 v1909 feature update still does not appear in Windows Update, use one of the following methods to install the update manually:
Method 2. Update Windows 10 to version 1909 using the Update Assistant.
1. Navigate to Windows 10 download site and click the Update now button.
2. When asked, click to Run the «Windows10Upgrade9252.exe» file to start the installation immediately, or click the Save button to run the installer later.
3. Finally click the Update Now button and follow the on screen prompts to update your system to the latest release of Windows 10, version 1909.
Method 3. Upgrade to Windows 10 v1909 using the Media Creation Tool.
1. Navigate to Windows 10 download site and click the Download tool now button.
2. Run the «MediaCreationTool1909.exe» file.
3. Accept the license agreement.
4. Choose Create installation media for another PC & click Next.
5. At the ‘Select language, architecture and edition’ options screen, click Next.
6. At ‘Choose which media to use’ choose ISO file and click Next.
7. At the next screen, select a location to save the ‘Windows.iso’ file and click Save.
8. When the download is completed, click Finish.
9. Navigate to the location, where you saved the Windows.iso file and double-click on it to mount it in File Explorer.
10. From the mounted drive, double click at setup.exe application.
11. Click Next at the first screen and then Accept the license terms.
12. Finally, at ‘Ready to Install’ screen, make sure that the Keep personal files and Apps option is selected and click Install.
13. Be patient during the update installation and do not power off your PC.

Windows 10 November 2019 Update (Version 1909) is available for download and installation. Microsoft is rolling out the update to all Windows users. We already discussed the features and enhancements included in version 1909 and already know that it is more of a performance fix or a service pack than a full-fledge feature update.
This version is also called Windows 10 19H2. If you go to the Windows Update settings screen, you will see that it is listed as an optional update and you will need to press the download and install button to install it. It will not automatically install, at least for the time being.

Since this is just a performance update, it is recommended that you upgrade your Windows to this latest version. You can also block this update from installing on your computer.

How to get this update now
There are two ways to install this update. If you are running Windows 10 Version 1903 or version 1809, you can get it from the Windows Update. Just run the Windows Update and it will automatically be available for download and installation. Secondly, you can also download the ISO image of Windows 10 Version 1909 and install it either by running the ISO file directly from Windows Explorer or booting your computer from the Windows 10 Version 1909 bootable USB/DVD.
The second way is beneficial if you want to do a clean install of this version instead of upgrading on already existing Windows installation. The Windows Update size of this version is very small as compared to the full ISO image. The ISO image is around 5 GB and it takes time to install or upgrade from the ISO.
Upgrading to Windows 10 Version 1909
To upgrade, follow the steps below:
- Go to Windows Settings (Windows key + I) –> Update & Security –> Windows Update.
- Press Check for new updates button
- Install all the available updates.
- The November 2019 Update will be listed as an optional update. You have to press Download and Install Now to install the update automatically.
A restart is required after the update installation. You can either restart immediately or schedule the restart as the update installation will take several minutes for the upgrade process. The following video is very useful for this complete upgrade process:

If you install this version without an Internet connection, the build number will be 18363.418. But since this version is available along with other Patch Tuesday updates, new updates will be installed and your build number will become 18363.476.
If we look at the hardware, Windows 10 Version 1903 and 1909 are the only ones officially compatible with 10th generation Intel processors. Both these versions will also have the same base kernel and system files. Therefore, both versions will get the same cumulative updates in the future. So it’s safe to say that you can upgrade to 1909 safely if you are already running Windows 10 Version 1903. You can check out the Windows processor requirements for all Windows versions here.
Windows 10 version 1909, November 2019 Update, is officially available as a free update for compatible devices starting November 12, 2019. This is the eighth feature update rolling out for desktops, laptops, and tablets, but unlike previous versions, this release doesn’t include any significant features or changes. Instead, it’s a minor update to improve the work that Microsoft has done with the May 2019 Update.
Also, similar to the previous release, the November 2019 Update update will be available as an optional update for supported devices. However, depending on the version that you’re using, the update experience will be different. If you’re already running the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, version 1903, then the device will receive the new version as a cumulative update through Windows Update, and the installation experience will be similar to those updates you get every month.
Using this new approach, Microsoft hopes the upgrade process will be less intrusive and faster to apply, because it’ll not require full reinstallation.
In the case that your device has an older version (such as the October 2018 Update or April 2018 Update), then the process to upgrade will require the full reinstallation of Windows 10. If your computer is running a release that is nearing to the end of service, then Windows 10 will eventually try to install the feature update automatically.
Download Windows 10 version 1909, November 2019 Update
Starting on November 12, if you’re running version 1903, you should click the Download and install now button in the Windows Update settings after you get the notification confirming that the update is ready for your device.
If you’re running an older version, then you can either choose to install the new version using the Media Creation Tool to perform an in-place upgrade without losing your files, apps, or settings. Or you can even use the same tool to perform a clean install of the November 2019 Update Update, which can help to resolve previous problems including performance issues. Alternatively, you can also use the Update Assistant or the Windows Update settings to upgrade.
Once you click the install button, your device will reboot, and complete the upgrade process automatically, just like when installing a monthly update. The only difference is that this process will take more time to apply if you’re using a release other than version 1903.
While you can use the Media Creation Tool and Update Assistant to apply version 1909 on your device running version 1903, it’s not necessary, because it’ll simply take more time and you may even run into more issues.
As a reminder, you should be aware that during the early days major releases are known to ship with unknown issues, bugs, and compatibility problems. As a result if you’re planning to wait a little longer, it’s now the time to configure your system to prevent Windows 10 from installing the November 2019 Update update to a later date.
