Virtual COM Port Drivers
This page contains the VCP drivers currently available for FTDI devices.
Virtual COM port (VCP) drivers cause the USB device to appear as an additional COM port available to the PC. Application software can access the USB device in the same way as it would access a standard COM port.
Click here to download the Windows 10, Windows 11 and Windows Server (see note * below) driver installer (setup executable) for ease of installation. The Windows driver installer contains both VCP and D2XX drivers. This installer is not available for ARM64..

VCP Drivers
Virtual COM port (VCP) drivers cause the USB device to appear as an additional COM port available to the PC. Application software can access the USB device in the same way as it would access a standard COM port.
This software is provided by Future Technology Devices International Limited “as is” and any express or implied warranties, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose are disclaimed. In no event shall future technology devices international limited be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, or consequential damages (including, but not limited to, procurement of substitute goods or services; loss of use, data, or profits; or business interruption) however caused and on any theory of liability, whether in contract, strict liability, or tort (including negligence or otherwise) arising in any way out of the use of this software, even if advised of the possibility of such damage.
FTDI drivers may be used only in conjunction with products based on FTDI parts.
FTDI drivers may be distributed in any form as long as license information is not modified.
If a custom vendor ID and/or product ID or description string are used, it is the responsibility of the product manufacturer to maintain any changes and subsequent WHCK re-certification as a result of making these changes.

The Virtual COM port driver enables your computer to communicate with serial ports found in your network or networked devices. Before you are able to connect your computer to the network, it needs a serial port, and the Virtual COM driver enables your computer to communicate with these ports. The problem is that sometimes the Virtual COM driver on your computer will not work properly or it won’t be able to detect the port on your device. This could cause a lot of trouble, especially if you have many devices that need to use this driver. This is especially true if you have a multi-pronged network setup.

Install a New version:
When the driver doesn’t run on your device, you probably have one of several problems. First off, it’s likely that the driver doesn’t exist on your system. There are a variety of drivers out there and they will vary in quality just like any other software program. Sometimes, you might need to delete the old driver and then install the new one. Other times, the device will simply not be supported by the current driver. In the latter case, though, you will need to get a new driver.
If you’re not sure which driver you need, you can always use DriverCure. It is highly recommended that you use DriverCure because it has been created to scan your computer for outdated drivers. It works by running various scans on your system and then compares them to the device driver database. It will only locate outdated devices and will remove them. This will ensure that your device is working properly again. If you don’t have any drivers, DriverCure will download the ones it finds, install them, and then enable your computer so that it will use the new ones.
Device Manager:
Another option for getting the driver you need is to go into the device manager and click on your device. Here, you will see all of the drivers that are currently being used on your computer. Clicking on any of the drivers will take you to the manufacturer’s website to download the driver. This option can work if you have an old device that could potentially still be supported.
Of course, if you want to keep the device working, you will also need to apply for a new driver. To do this, you will need to go into Device Manager and click on the Update Driver button. This will bring up the driver update wizard. This will allow you to select which drivers you need to update, and it will install them for you. However, since this is a process that must be performed regularly in order to get the most recent updates, it is suggested that you perform this step automatically with an automatic driver update tool.
Windows is great. It will save you a ton of time and make sure that everything goes smoothly. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t improve things if you want to. The virtual COM port driver that you use should be updated whenever there is a new version. This will ensure that you get the most current information for your device, which means that it will work properly for you.
