Important: If you retried the installation too many times, skip down to «Option 2». The local user account that runs Jenkins may be locked. You will need to unlock that account before attempting either fix below.
This is how I fixed the problem.
Option 1: Re-enter credentials for jenkins user
Please read it all before executing and follow the steps in order:
- Delete any Jenkins installation leftovers you currently have
- Start the installation process, input your credentials when asked, and continue with the on-screen instructions (including choosing the JDK folder) up until the point where the error is raised.
- When the error is raised, >>> DO NOT DO ANYTHING! <<< leave it as it is shown in my question
- Now (and only now), open «Services»
- Search for the «Jenkins» service. It should be set to «Automatic», but it might be «Disabled»
- Open the «Jenkins» properties, and go to the «Log On» tab
- Make sure you choose the «This account» radio button, delete the account name and password fields, and enter them AGAIN
- Click «Apply»
- Go back to the installer and click «Retry»
If everything is according to plan — The installation will now continue without a problem.
This method was tested on a local and VM / AWS computer and worked!
If you still encounter a problem, try changing the startup in step 5 to «Automatic» and make sure you only open «Services» on step 4. «Services» will not update while it is open.
Option 2: Unlock jenkins user account and manually start service
If you encounter the «Service ‘Jenkins’ failed to start» error too many times, the account on your computer that should run Jenkins will become locked. You will need to unlock that local account first. Keep the Jenkins installation window open with the error message, and then perform the following steps:
- Open the «Local Users and Groups» application.
- Go into the «Users» folder.
- Right-click on the user who will run the Jenkins service, and click «Properties».
- Uncheck «Account is locked out». And while you are at it, make sure «Account is disabled» is unchecked as well.
- Click OK.
- Open the «Services» app on your computer.
- Make sure the Jenkins service is set to start automatically.
- Right-click the Jenkins service and click «Start». The service should start successfully.
- Switch back to the Jenkins installation window with the «insufficient privileges» message still showing.
- Click the «Retry» button in the «insufficient privileges» message box. The installer should recognize that the Jenkins service has started.
You should be able to finish the installation.
For me wasn’t working because java installed was jre-8u301-windows-x64.exe
I installed x86, jdk-8u301-windows-i586.exe and it worked
I had the same issue, I have both jre8, jdk 8 and jdk 11 corretto, I think there are some compatibility issues using these versions of java. I was able to fix it by installing jre mentioned above by @maksym which is this.
The Jenkins versions that I am trying to install are 2.332.2 LTS and 2.345. I am able to successfully install 2.332.2 LTS

The log on as a service user right allows accounts to start or run services on a Windows machine. By default, and due to security reasons, services can only be configured to run under the Local System, Local Service or Network Service accounts which have a built-in right to log on as a service. Any other user account that requires to run a service must be assigned this right.
When installing Parallels® Remote Application Server (RAS), if the user that is logged on does not have sufficient privileges to install system services, the following error may appear:
“Service ‘RAS RD Session Host Agent’ (RAS RD Session Host Agent) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services”.
Resolution
- Run gpedit.msc.
- Navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies >User Rights Assignment.
- In the details pane, double-click Log on as a service.
- Click Add User or Group… and add the account to the list of accounts that have the Log on as a service right. Once you have selected the user, click OK.
- Click OK and close the policy editor.
Supported on
RAS RD Session Host Agent is supported on the following operating systems:
- Windows Server 2019
- Windows Server 2016
- Windows Server 2012 R2
- Windows Server 2012
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Server 2008

«Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services.»
Hello All,
I’ve been having trouble installing a driver for an audio interface on Windows 10. Every time I try to install the driver, the installation stops at «Starting services» and I get a an error that says «Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services.»
I’ve tried running as administrator, and tried it in safe mode with the same results. My Windows 10 is completely up to date and this is the latest driver for this interface. Drivers for other audio interfaces install no problem, so I’m not sure what’s happening here.
Anyone have any experience with this error/issue?

Steps to reproduce

v1.78.1
) - Right click downloaded installer and Run as Administrator
- Agree to license and start installer
- Observe as installer fails with the message

See attached screenshots for additional details.
Also worth noting that the target windows 10 device has windows update & windows update medic services disabled
Can also confirm that no other VPN software was running when attempting to install tailscale.

Re: Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start service
Hello,
Since there was a synchronize option set on your application folder and we don’t have access to your source files, we could not test and reproduce the service installation behavior.
However, as your settings seem ok, you can try to install your service outside Advanced Installer and see its behavior. You will then have to implement the installation setting requirements in your Advanced Installer project. Here is a similar thread which deals with this issue and has several solution scenarios you can try.
All the best,
Mihai

Hi Mihai,
I dont know how to install my service outside Advanced Installer and I looked up the similar threads but no solution for me.
Therefore, I unchecked the syncronize option from my application folder. It would be a big favor for me if you can test it for me, could you?
Here is my file:

Thanks a lot,

Re: Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start service
I created windows service by typing the code below:
sc create «vncserver» start= auto binpath= «C:\Program Files\Istanbul Sehir University\TightVNC\tvnserver.exe»
Service is created but does not start.
Error 1053 the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
So, I guess this is not a problem related to Advanced Installer.
