OpenTTD requires a separate base graphics set to run, which can be downloaded on first run.
In case you want to manually download and install it, some options are:
- OpenGFX (graphics)
- The Transport Tycoon Deluxe data files can be used as base graphics set. You must own a version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe; they cannot be downloaded.
Sound and music sets are recommended (but not necessary).
- OpenSFX (sound) and OpenMSX (music) can be installed via the in-game content download manager.
- The Transport Tycoon Deluxe data files can be used as base sound / music set. You must own a version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe; they cannot be downloaded.
Additional graphics, sound, and music sets can be downloaded via the in-game content download manager.
For integration with Social Platforms, you have to manually download and install the plugin of the platform (only available on OpenTTD 14.0 and later):
- Discord
- GOG Galaxy
- Steam
Please refer to the readme for more information.
For all binaries officially released by us we publish the MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 checksums. You can use these checksums to check whether the file you downloaded has been modified. All three checksums should match the file you downloaded; if this is not the case it means that either the file didn’t come from us or that it got broken during transport. Either way it might possibly contain dangerous modifications and the file should therefore not be trusted!
Latest stable release in openttd is 14.1, released on 2024-05-03 20:51 UTC.

The Windows version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe should be able to work on Windows 10 as well, if you use TTDPatch. You don’t need to enable any of the gameplay-modifying features of TTDPatch, but the patch is necessary to allow the game run.

Did you use …
ttdpatch (for DOS)
or
ttdpatchw (for Windows)
?
Also, there should be a file:
ttdpatch.cfg
Open this file with a plain text editor such as Notepad and look for
// `win2k’ (-2) makes the Windows version of TTD compatible with Windows 2000/XP.
win2k on
Make sure win2k is on.

Properly, it did create it because it was not present to begin with.
This is normal for ttdpatch.
It aborted because of something else.
Post a screenshot of what you saw just before the program aborted.

ttdloadw.ovl is NOT a part of transport tycoon deluxe.
When you installed transport tycoon deluxe, it should have included GameGFX.exe.
running ttdpatchw.exe finds GameGFX.exe and copies its contents into a new file named ttdloadw.ovl.
You should see a window that looks like this:

If the message said ttdload.ovl then you have the DOS version of ttdpatch and the solution is to replace it with the Windows version: ttdpatchw.
Other than that, I absolutely must see a screenshot of what you are seeing. Pressing the Alt+Prt Sc buttons on your keyboard when you have that message on your screen will save the image to clipboard. Then in an image editor such as Windows Paint clicking on Open From Clipboard will show you the image.

Semantics . Also, it is not a matter of us not believing you and your words. However, past experiences show that submitting a screenshot and answering support questions rather than discarding them works best. Please give answering these questions a sincere try:
- Does your report mention missing ttdload.ovl or ttdloadw.ovl?
- Did you enable win2k in ttdpatch.cfg;
- Can you clarify the contradiction that «it did create it but, it aborted because it was not present to begin with»: did it or did it not create ttdload(w).ovl before aborting;
- Please post a screenshot of that error message.

ttdpatchw should work with any Windows version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe that contains GameGFX.exe.

Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe – это экономический симулятор с элементами стратегии в режиме реального времени. Геймеру предстоит взять под своё управление крупнейшую компанию. Основная задача игры заключена развитии своего транспортного предприятия. Его реформация осуществляется за счёт заработка денежных средств. Игрок получает прибыль за перевозку грузов и пассажиров. Необходимо создать несколько видов путей: железнодорожные, автомобильные, авиа и водные. Кроме обычных дорог, нужно возводить мосты и прокладывать тоннели, строить аэропорты.
Данная игра предоставляет возможность локального подключения. Разрешено вместе с друзьями развивать бизнес. Искусственный интеллект во многом будет помогать и давать советы, что построить сначала и какие грузоперевозки необходимо открыть в первую очередь.Есть специализированные места в городах, которые необходимо связать транспортом. Вы будете перемещать между ними товары первой необходимости, технику и самих пассажиров. Каждый вид путей требует постоянного контроля над ними. Нанимайте рабочую силу для обеспечения частоты своих портов и дорог.
Игрок не должен забывать о конкуренции. Во всех столицах будут появляться соперники, осуществляющие борьбу с вашим бизнесом. Можно продумать все действия по разорению компаний, покупая их акции. Когда ваши грузовые пути сильно разрастаются, то можно совершить переезд в другую страну или город, для увеличения своего капитала.
