distribution is the recommended method of installing GIMP!Therefore choose your installation medium according to your
needs.
Flatpak additional instructions
If the link above doesn’t open your software installer,
install with following command:
flatpak install --user https://flathub.org/repo/appstream/org.gimp.GIMP.flatpakref
After installation, if GIMP is not shown as other applications (on menus, desktop overview, etc),
run it with following command line:
flatpak run org.gimp.GIMP//stable
This installation will also provide regular auto update.
Once again, if your distribution does not have proper support,
you can always fall back to using the following command line:
flatpak update
Systems without flatpak or AppImage support
GIMP can also run on Solaris and is available for the BSD family of systems such as FreeBSD and OpenBSD.
Please refer to the documentation for your Unix-like system on the installation of software.

Third Party Downloads
Third party packages are not officially supported by the GIMP
project. Therefore you should report issues to the packagers
first, before reporting to the GIMP team.
We only list some of these package systems here because they are
widely used FLOSS projects, though we won’t list projects
providing very outdated versions.
Macports
An easy way to compile and install GIMP and other great Free software on your Mac is by using Macports. The installer allows you to choose from a large directory of packages. To install gimp using Macports, you simply do sudo port install gimp once you have Macports installed.
Last we checked, the GIMP
port file pointed to the current stable release
and we have reports from people who’ve built GIMP
successfully this way.

Homebrew
Homebrew is similar to Macports and provides packages (aka formulas) to install, either by compiling them from source or by using pre-made binaries. There are indications that there is now a formula for GIMP, installable with: brew tap homebrew/cask && brew install --cask gimp.

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing system. It works by downloading GIMP from a distributed network of BitTorrent users, and may improve download speed dramatically.
Choosing this option will download the torrent file for the GIMP installer.

GIMP — графический редактор, предоставляемый в свободном доступе, позволяющий работать с фильтрами, масками, а также слоями, поддерживающий свыше 30-ти популярных форматов. Обширный набор инструментов для корректировки цветов, а также возможность применения режима смешивания позволяют быстро обработать фото или любые другие изображения.
Графический редактор GIMP предельно прост в использовании, за счет доступного интерфейса. GIMP совместим с целым рядом устройств ввода, в том числе и с графическими планшетами. Уникальные плагины этого редактора позволяют повышать качество изображения и стилизовать любые фото. Формат XCF позволяет сохранять любые графические данные, в том числе каналы, слои, контуры и текст.
Функционал
GIMP считается универсальным редактором благодаря динамичным кистям, которые позволяют легко менять размер, цвет, степень прозрачности и даже жесткость. Кисти реагируют на интенсивность нажатия, и, кроме того, для каждой можно установить предел дрожания. Перетаскивание функций на изображение значительно упрощает рабочий процесс. GIMP также поддерживает кисти в формате Photoshop, что обеспечивает комфортную работу для опытных дизайнеров и художников.
Другие функции:
- Редактирование выделенного участка. После выделения прямоугольника или эллипса, можно безотлагательно изменять его параметры. К примеру, обозначив эллипс или прямоугольник, можно поработать с его размерами или краями.
- Быстрое сжатие. Изменение расширения на .bz2 или .gz позволяет тут же создать архив. Программа же откроет такой файл, как обычный.
- Перемещение холста. Обработка краев упрощается за счет возможности перемещения картинки за пределы окна. Центр может быть смещен в угол холста, а края, соответственно, оказываются вне его границ.
- Ослабление. Под данным параметром подразумевается частичная отмена последнего действия. Изменяя опции смешивания и непрозрачности, можно несколько ослабить эффект.
- Выравнивание. Пользователь самостоятельно задает параметры выравнивания. В его основе может лежать активный слой, определенная направляющая или же выделенный контур.
- Выделение. Передний план может быть выделен благодаря специальному инструменту, с возможностью сопоставления цветов. Кроме того, с помощью одного и того же инструмента можно производить выделение как многоугольное, так и от руки. Перед тем, как применить данный эффект, соединяемые точки можно отредактировать вручную.
- Создание плагинов. В данном ПО упрощена процедура создания собственных плагинов. Каждый пользователь может легко расширить функционал редактора, создав собственное расширение, применяя один из языков программирования.
