Super Mario Flash was the first of two online games developed by Pouetpu and relased on his website. The popularity of this flash game resulted in Super Mario Flash 2 years later, along with dozens upon dozens of hacks for both versions. One of the great things that made these Super Mario Flash games so popular was the fact that they included a level editor. For years the Super Mario Flash community happily shared level codes with each other, sharing each others creations, but the site got abandoned by it’s creator for unknown reasons.  You can read more about how Super Mario Flash got it’s start through the Super Mario Flash wiki.

Hoping to create a new home for the Super Mario Flash community, the «Level Palace» was created. Active staff, a huge and continually growing collection of games, easy level sharing, and more features. It officially opened it’s doors in 2016, and for years the site gained a ton of members and over 20,000 levels created from the community. As time went on, life caught up with site creator Brendan as he could no longer maintain the site. Starting in 2020, development of a new site was intending to follow in the Level Palace’s footsteps as it’s spiritual successor in it’s abscence.

This project dubbed «Level Share Square» is spearheaded by The Flying Dutchman and LuigiBonus, who both develop and hold keys to site and manage the admin team, consisting of Tristaph and bluSeven, who are both head of moderation and Vexavios, who is the development lead. The Level Palace was announced to be discontinued on the 3rd of August 2023, with many users uploading levels saying their heartfelt goodbyes, but that they’ll see them again over at Level Share Square.

Archival efforts around the internet have been made to preserve as many Super Mario Flash releases and hacks as possible with many hacks and base flash games being reuploaded on archive.org. With the end of flash, it’s all that can be done to preserve this flash games legacy. A lot of time and effort went into properly crediting everyone for their work along with the modders for their editions and where they were obtained from. Under links, you should see «Source 1» «Source 2» etc. from everywhere that each respective game/hack was obtained from. Many efforts have also been made to back up as many level codes as possible, both by the LSS team and members around the community. If you don’t see your hack included in this archive, feel free to reach out in the LSS discord. Same goes for if you don’t see your levels that you had on level palace, with a little bit of luck and the wayback machine we might be able to help you out. This launcher has been sourced and compiled by Sternosaur with the help of the community for accuracy and honoring everyone involved.
