Just like Spotify no longer supports Windows XP, it officially ended support for Spotify Windows Phone in 2016. While users can still access the Spotify app Windows Phone, the lack of updates means no new features or bug fixes will be available. This could lead to performance issues over time. The decision was driven by a declining Windows Phone user base and Spotify’s focus on more popular platforms like iOS and Android.
If you’re still using a Windows Phone, don’t worry—this guide covers three easy methods to keep enjoying Spotify, whether you’re on Windows Phone 8, Windows Phone 8.1, or Windows Phone 10.
Part 1. Download and Play Spotify on Windows Phone (8 or Higher OS)
If you’re using a Windows Phone 8, Windows Phone 8.1, or Windows Phone 10, you can still download and use an older version of Spotify (5.2.4.0) from the Microsoft Store. However, be aware that some features are limited, and the app may not perform smoothly due to the lack of updates.
Here’s how to download and use the app:
Step 1. Open the Microsoft Store
Unlock your Windows Phone and go to the Microsoft Store. Use the search bar to look for Spotify.
Step 2. Download and install Spotify
Once you find the Spotify app Windows Phone, tap Install and wait for the app to be downloaded and installed on your phone.
Step 3. Log in to your account
After installation, open the Spotify app and sign in using your Spotify account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one directly in the app.
Step 4. Start listening to music
Once logged in, you can browse playlists, search for songs, and play music. Keep in mind that due to compatibility issues, certain features might not work properly.
While this is still a way to access Spotify, using the outdated Spotify for Windows Phone 8.1 or later OS means you may encounter functionality limitations. If you need a more reliable and flexible solution, check out the next method!
Part 2. Play Spotify Music via Spotify Web Player on Windows Phone (Any OS)
If your Windows Phone 8, Windows Phone 8.1, or Windows Phone 10 struggles with the app, you can still access Spotify using the Spotify Web Player. This method works on any Windows Phone OS and lets you stream your favorite music directly from the browser. Here’s how:
Step 1. Open your browserLaunch the web browser on your Windows Phone.
Step 2. Access the Spotify Web PlayerGo to Spotify Web Player or type the web player URL in the address bar and enter.
Step 3. Log in to your accountSign in using your Spotify credentials. If you don’t have an account, you can register for one directly on the website.
Step 4. Stream and enjoy musicOnce logged in, you can search for songs, play your favorite tracks, and like songs to save them to your library.
However, keep in mind that the Spotify Web Player has limitations. You can’t edit playlists or download music for offline listening. If offline playback is important to you, check out Part 3, where we’ll show you how to download Spotify songs as MP3 files and transfer them to your Windows Phone.
Part 3. Download Spotify Songs as MP3 and Play Them on Windows Phone (Any OS)
If you want to listen to Spotify offline on your Windows Phone, using a tool like TuneFab Spotify Music Converter is a perfect solution. It lets you download Spotify songs, playlists, or albums as MP3 files for unrestricted playback on your Windows Phone. The software supports popular formats like MP3, FLAC, and WAV while preserving the original audio quality.
What makes TuneFab Spotify Music Converter stand out is its 35x faster conversion speed and built-in Spotify Web Player for easy drag-and-drop operation. It also retains ID3 tags, including artist names and album covers, and supports batch conversion, making it simple to download entire playlists or albums for seamless offline listening.
Follow these steps to use it:
Step 1. Download and Install TuneFab Spotify Music Converter
Visit the official TuneFab website and download the software to your PC. Install and launch it.
Step 2. Add Spotify Songs to Convert
Use the built-in Spotify Web Player to log in with your Spotify account. Drag and drop your desired songs, albums, or playlists into the conversion interface.
Step 3. Choose Output Settings
Select MP3 as the output format and adjust the bitrate, sample rate, or output folder as needed.
Step 4. Convert Spotify Songs
Click Convert to start downloading the Spotify songs to your computer. The process is fast and ensures high-quality files.
Step 5. Transfer MP3 Files to Your Windows Phone
1. Ensure your Windows Phone is charged and connect it to your PC using a USB cable.
2. On your PC, open This PC or My Computer and select your connected Windows Phone.
3. Navigate to the Music folder on your phone.
4. Drag and drop the converted MP3 files from your PC into the Music folder on your Windows Phone.
5. Once the files are copied, safely eject your phone.
Conclusion
While the first two methods allow you to use Spotify on Windows Phone, that is using the web player or old version app. However, they come with limitations. The Spotify app Windows Phone is outdated and lacks updates, while the Spotify Web Player doesn’t support offline listening or playlist editing.
If you’re looking for a more flexible solution, TuneFab Spotify Music Converter is your best option. It allows you to download Spotify songs as MP3 files, which can be transferred to any Windows Phone OS for offline playback. With this tool, you can enjoy Spotify without restrictions and keep your music forever. Just try it!
Spotify Premium.

Awesome but slow
I love that Spotify is available on win 10 mobile. However.. I just received my Lumia 950XL in the states.. Spotify is super super slow.. And the font is a little un necessarily large. I’d say 25% decrease would suffice. Otherwise great app. Love that I can listen to my fave playlists.
Thx Spotify!!!

Been a Spotify user for five years almost. Worked better on Android. I have extensive playlists, this app crashes constantly on my windows phone. Plus my discover feature only recommends music and I listen to stand up comedy… Canceling soon.

I am a premier member and the app often shows Spotify offline and phone has to be restarted to function. Live tile shows on home screen but pictures, folder and music does not always show in the app. Very slow and unresponsive compared to android version.

Good app, interface could use an update for win10
The app functions well. Can be a little slow at times. The interface could use an update to reflect the new wp10 look and hopefully speed up the app a bit.
