Создать ftp server windows 2003

This step-by-step article describes how to install and configure a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server for anonymous access.

Install Internet Information Services and the FTP Service

In Windows Server 2003, the FTP Service is not installed by default when you install IIS. If you already installed IIS on the computer, you must use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to install the FTP Service. Because FTP depends on Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), IIS and the FTP Service must be installed on the computer. To install IIS and the FTP Service, follow these steps.

1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.  In the Components list, click Application Server, click Internet Information Services (IIS) (but do not select or clear the check box), and then click Details.

2. Click to select the following check boxes (if they are not already selected):
• Common Files
• File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service
• Internet Information Services Manager

3. Click to select the check boxes next to any other IIS-related service or subcomponent that you want to install, and then click OK. Click Next and when you are prompted, insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM into the computer’s CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive or provide a path to the location of the files, and then click OK.

4. Click Finish. IIS and the FTP service are now installed. You must configure the FTP Service before you can use it.

Configure The FTP Service

To configure the FTP Service to allow only anonymous connections, follow these steps:

1. Start Internet Information Services Manager or open the IIS snap-in.

2. Expand Server_name, where Server_name is the name of the server.

3. Expand FTP Sites

4. Right-click Default FTP Site, and then click Properties.

5. Click the Security Accounts tab.

6. Click to select the Allow Anonymous Connections check box (if it is not already selected), and then click to select the Allow only anonymous connections check box.

When you click to select the Allow only anonymous connections check box, you configure the FTP Service to allow only anonymous connections. Users cannot log on by using user names and passwords.

7. Click the Home Directory tab.

8. Click to select the Read and Log visits check boxes (if they are not already selected), and then click to clear the Write check box (if it is not already cleared).

9. Click OK.

10. Quit Internet Information Services Manager or close the IIS snap-in.

The FTP server is now configured to accept incoming FTP requests. Copy or move the files that you want to make available to the FTP publishing folder for access. The default folder is drive:\Inetpub\Ftproot, where drive is the drive on which IIS is installed.

You are here: Home / Internet / IIS 6 / Set-up an FTP Server on Windows 2003 Server

Setting up an FTP server on Windows 2003 Server is a pretty simple process.  Why would you need an FTP server?  Well, if you are hosting websites you might want to allow designers and customers access to their webfolders  (not me… no one accesses my server but me but you can.. 🙂 ) and an FTP server is a great way to allow them access.  OR some Commercial Copiers have a scan to FTP or SMB service so, you could install an FTP server to allow a central place to save scanned documents.  Needless to say there are many reasons why you might need one and with Server 2003 it’s “Easy Cheesy”.

The Microsoft FTP server depends on the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS),  so  IIS and the FTP Service must be installed on the computer.   To install IIS and the FTP Service, follow these steps:

These instructions can also be found at Microsoft’s Support site.

NOTE: In Windows Server 2003, the FTP Service is not installed by default when you install IIS.   If you already installed IIS on the computer, you must use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to install the FTP Service.

  1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. In the Components list, click Application Server, click Internet Information Services (IIS) (but do not select or clear the check box), and then click Details.
  4. Click to select the following check boxes (if they are not already selected):
    Common Files
    File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service
    Internet Information Services Manager
  5. Click to select the check boxes next to any other IIS-related service or subcomponent that you want to install, and then click OK.
  6. Click Next.
  7. When you are prompted, insert the Windows Server 2003 CD-ROM into the computer’s CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive or provide a path to the location of the files, and then click OK.
  8. Click Finish.

You have now installed the IIS and FTP services but before you can start using your new FTP you must configure it. To configure the FTP Service follow these steps.

To configure the FTP Service to allow only anonymous connections:

Anonymous access only is not a good way to leave your newly installed FTP server if your intent was to give users the ability to upload files and not merely to download.  So, in the next couple of days we’ll go over setting up virtual FTP sites and assign usernames and passwords to access each as well as giving those users read and write access to their folders.

What is  File Server

A File Server is basically a computer that is dedicatory used to store and share digital information / Media Files / Songs / Videos / Documents that can be accessed by other computers that are connected to the network. For your home / office / Internet Network, any computer can be a file server if you want it to be.

Advantages of a file server

  • A file server can act as a backup storage for your important documents and files. If your computer crashed, you can recover lost files from the file server easily.
  • It also acts as a central location to share files between multiple computers. This way everybody knows where to find and store a shared file.

Following is an guide on howto create FTP / HTTP base sharing server for your local / public network.

For example, If you have a server with windows 2003 server and you want to share softwares/vdo folder or whole sharing drive that can be accessed via browser only , then you must add IIS web/ftp service to your server.

Note:In this article I used Windows 2003 R2 , My Ip Address is 192.168.2.5  , You have to change this according to your Network.

First we need to add http/ftp service. Please follow the steps.

  1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. In the Components list, click Application Server, Select Internet Information Services (IIS),  and then click Details.
  4. Click to select the following check boxes (if they are not already selected):
    Common Files
    File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service
    Internet Information Services Manager
    World Wide Web Services

Alternate Easy Method to Create HTTP File Sharing Server using HFS HTTP Serve

Recently I was in need of a simple file sharing server which does not requires dedicated installation or any other components, I came across HFS HTTP File Sharing Server, which is a standalone file , Using it, you can create http file sharing server in seconds. [For more enhanced guide, please visit http://www.techmalaya.com/2008/02/16/home-network-file-server-setup/ ]

# Create a folder named “hfs” on any disk drive, for example C:\hfs
# Download HFS HTTP SERVER  from following link

http://www.dovedove.it/hfs/hfs279.exe

Double click hfs.exe to execute the program. You will see the following

Select YES.

Now Adjust Few settings to make it adjust with your network environment. See the below images.

Now from Browser open http://yourip and you will something below

Now its time to add any folder, you can DRAG n DROP any folder you wish to share with the general public,or Right click on any folder and you will be presented with the option ADD TO HFS, a popup windows be opened , select Real Folder, and click on OK.

Now open the http://yourip again and you will see the shared folder.

Your Files are ready to be Explored 🙂

You can also protect your folder by User ID / Password. Just Rright click on your folder (in HFS) and set user/pass , and then type your id password, so next time when any user will try to open this folder, he will be asked for credentials.

You can also use multiple Skins/Templates supported by HFS.

You can  play Songs / Videos  / image preview directly via Browser using this hfs server, for this purpose yo have to install RAWR Template Theme from

http://www.rejetto.com/forum/index.php/topic,5456.0.html

After importing Template , You can directly Play several Media Files via Browser, Sample is attached.

[Make sure your clients have VLC Media Player installed.]

Comments are Welcome !

Configure an FTP Site on a Windows server and start uploading files to your website.

by

Updated June 17, 2014

Create a new FTP user account to use for your FTP Site. Make sure to check Password never expires.

Set the permissions on the directory you want to FTP to. Make sure the Modifify and Write is checked under Allow, for the FTP User account.

Choose the website folder where you want to FTP files to.

If you’re a website owner that is running a dedicated server, you will probably want to know how to setup FTP Sites, in order to transfer files to and from your server. This is especially true if you are not using a web hosting control panel like Helm or cPanel. Setting up an FTP Site and connecting to it using FTP software can be a big pain in the neck if you haven’t done it before. In this how-to article I will go through the basics of setting up a FTP user account, and an FTP Site in Windows Server 2003. Keep in mind there are many different FTP configurations that may be better for your particular situation, but this should help you grasp how to setup FTP Sites and begin uploading files to your server using FTP.

Create a FTP User account

    1. Open Computer Management, to do this go to: Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Computer Management
    2. Now within Computer Management go to: System Tools > Local Users and Groups
(Note: If Local Users and Groups is not found in Computer Management)
      1.  You want to open Console: do this by going to Start > Run > then type mmc and click OK.
      2.  Then go to: File > Add/Remove Snap-in
      3.  Click Add > Then Add Local Users and Groups (Local)
    3. Right-click on the Users folder and select a New User. Now create your User name and Password and then make sure to check Password never expires and click Create. Then click Close. See Figure 1.
    4. Now go to the folder (directory) on your web server where the website you want to connect to with FTP is located. Typically websites are located in the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot directory.
    5. Right-click on your website folder that you want to FTP into and click Properties
    6. Select the Security tab > Add > Advanced… > Find Now
    7. In the Search results list box, find the User that you just created and select it, and click OK, and click OK again.
    8. Now in the Properties dialog box, with the Security tab still selected and your User name that you just added selected, make sure in the Permissions box that the Write checkbox under Allow is checked, this allows for Uploading files to the server in your folder. See Figure 2.
    9. In the same Permissions box, make sure that Modify is also checked.  This gives the user the ability to delete files on the server.
    10. Click OK to save your Properties

Create an FTP Site

    1. Go to: Computer Management > Services and Applications > Internet Information Services > FTP Sites
    2. Right-click on the FTP Sites folder and select New > FTP Site
    3. In the FTP Site Creation Wizard dialog box click Next.
    4. Give your FTP site a description and click Next.
    5. Enter the IP address to use for the site and then click Next. (Make sure to use an IP Address that is not being used by another FTP site, or else you may get an error and not be able to Start the FTP site.)
    6. Select Do not isolate users. You will want to select Isolate users if you require data protection between users (The Isolate users setup is a bit more involved to get FTP to work and will not be discussed here).
    7. Now click Browse and find the home directory of your website and then click Next. See Figure 3.
    8. Check both Read and Write. By checking Write you will enable a user to upload files to the site. Click Next and then click Finish to complete.
    9. Once you’ve successfully created the new FTP Site, Right-click on the your new FTP site and select Properties and go to the Security Accounts tab and uncheck Allow anonymous connections. In the IIS Manager dialog box that pops up, click Yes.
    10. Then go to the Home Directory tab and check the Write box if it has not been already checked.
    11. Click OK.

Setup your FTP program with User login details

    1. Open your FTP program (such as cuteFTP, SmartFTP or WS_FTP) and enter your Username and Password account information which you created above and the IP Address you choose as the Host address.
    2. Now connect to your site.

You should now be able to upload your website files to your server via FTP.

UPDATE:  Just wanted to make the suggestion to anyone who isn’t using a control panel on their Windows Server 2003 to definitely look into installing a control panel like HELM on your server.  It makes creating websites and ftp sites so much easier.  Take it from me, I initially didn’t install a control panel on my server, and it became a huge headache to manage everything. I would definitely recommend installing HELM, but just make sure you back up all your sites and databases first (just in case). You can get a free version here: http://www.webhostautomation.com/products/helm4/tryhelm.aspx

UPDATE (1-27-09): HELM is in the last stages of being developed.  In other words, going forward it is expected that it will no longer be developed.  If possible, I’d seriously recommend upgrading your server to Windows Server 2008.  Windows Server 2008 makes adding FTP sites very simple. Look for an upcoming article on this site as to how to setup FTP on Windows Server 2008.
