Hi guys
To be very frank, though I started using Windows 10 from the Technical Preview days & was an insider for a long time. After each build, one of the best things I loved about Windows 10 was it’s ability to identify and install the best drivers (Occasionally requiring manufacturer drivers for additional enhancements (Sound, VGA, Wifi)) even for pretty old hardware components.
With the Creators update, started reading many frustrated users complaining about missing drivers which were not so loud till build 1603. Out of curiosity, I found that almost four devices were not recognized for my almost 5 years old work laptop, a Dell Latitude E6420.
Throughout my Windows 10 experiences, I hardly bothered to find Windows 10 specific drivers from DELL support because my product is not supported for Windows 10 & the latest available are for Windows 8. Well, almost all the executables by DELL are packed in a different way that Intel drivers & extracting the packages using 7-zip didn’t always let me point the device manager to extracted files locations and pick correct drivers. Hence, I just run the executable & take a chance with almost all missing drivers.
This time after patching the way mentioned above (Which can break your system, be warned & trust me, I know what I am doing, so just lost a whole partition 2 days back) I found one item under “Other devices” & it read “MAP SMS/MMS”. I tried to locate the hardware details, which has only a long string that read something more than mere google searches could help, until I came across this post today.
2nd page of the article, user vkgupta suggests to remove connected Bluetooth devices to see whether this “Other device” disappears after the unpair process.
I unpaired my LG G3 & the “Other device” disappeared. Paired it again, letting the Other device to reappear with a ? mark once again. So, if you are another someone who is trying to “find” a proper driver for your SMS/MMS other device, give this trick a try.

Do you have any smartphone, bluetooth … devices around ? Did you connect any porttable devices to your computer ?
This is something to do with your portable devices, work around is
(a) Delete all of them,
(b) Connect your portable device to your laptop,
(c) Wait then open Device Manager,
(d) When SMS/MMS re-appears, right click and update.

Unknown MAP SMS/MMS solved.
Go to Devices and Printers in Control Panel. Find your mobile device. Right click the icon and choose properties. Select the services tab. Uncheck MAP SMS/MMS. Your device doesn’t support it. It will disappear from the Device Manager.

Android Phone Not Recognized by Windows 10 laptop, Possibly Showing as MAP SMS/MMS in Device Manager
I’ve been trying to connect my Android phone to my Windows 10 laptop so I can more easily remove files and free up space, but it’s not working.
I have a MetroPCS LG Aristo 2 running Android 7.1.2, and my laptop is an HP Pavilion Notebook running Windows 10 Fast Ring Insider build 17134, although this happened on 17133 as well. I’ve connected it to other computers before, and I’ve connected other devices to this one before, but not since its last repair a month or so ago, when the hard drive was replaced.
I’ve tried all 3 of its USB ports and 3 different cables with the same result. Nothing seems to happen until I look closer. The phone charges, but my computer doesn’t make the sound for a device being connected. It also doesn’t show up in the File Explorer or Device Manager under the name of the phone.
I did notice that there was a strange device in the Device Manager called MAP SMS/MMS. The name made me think this might be my phone, so I tried uninstalling it, restarting the laptop and phone and reconnecting them. Each time I do this, that device reappears. I’ve tried updating its driver to the one for my phone since it doesn’t seem to have one, but that doesn’t change anything.
I’ve also tried things with USB debugging both on and off on my phone, and I’ve tried changing the USB configuration, but again, nothing changes. I’ve also tried reinstalling the driver for my phone since I’ve heard that can help it detect my phone. I’ve read the details for that device, MAP SMS/MMS, which my computer says is working properly, and they’re kind of strange. A lot of values seem to be unknown. If it wasn’t for the name and the way it reappears when I connect my phone, I would have no idea what it could be.
I’ve done several Web searches, and this was everything I could find to try. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

Microsoft Bluetooth Drivers Fix Bluetooth Peripheral SMS/MMS | Windows Mobile Device Center in Windows 11/10/8/7
WMDC may not work in newer Windows versions, particularly Windows 10 version 1703 (Creators Update) OS Build 15063. If you absolutely need to use WMDC in a newer version of Windows, some possible methods to get it to work are as follows.
An abbreviated summary of a common method used to get it to work requires running our WMDC-fixes-for-Win10.msi patch utility (below), uninstall WMDC (both the driver update then main app), use Task Manager to end task on the two WMDC processes, use msconfig (System Configuration) to stop the two WMDC services, Restart, manually delete the entire C:\Windows\WindowsMobile folder, re-install drvupdate-amd64.exe from our website, manually launch WMDC, connect cable, and then wait usually up to two minutes the first time connecting.
Sometimes before being successful at installing WMDC, you must first manually enable the required .NET Framework 3.5 under “Turn Windows features on or off” and/or by using the previous dotNetFx35setup.exe installer from Microsoft.
After install and once «Windows Mobile Device Center» appears in the list under the Start menu on the desktop PC, similar to as is automatically applied by our «WMDC-Helper.exe» utility referenced above, you may need to run Windows Powershell as an adminstrator to apply the following registry commands, and then perform a Restart.

This is less likely, but you may additionally need to open «Computer Management» as an Admin to view Services and Applications > Services to change the Properties of the “Windows Mobile-2003-based device connectivity” and “Windows mobile-based device connectivity” services to Log On using «Local System Account», and then Start each service. You may sometimes need to re-apply and Start these again when re-connecting device or after performing a Restart on the PC.
