The Owners
Poul & David, co-owners and hands-on craftsmen, have the experience and dedication to complete challenging and complex projects to exacting standards in Edmonton, St. Albert and the surrounding area.
The owners’ Dutch background commits Shield to offering an excellent range of pultruded fibreglass fenestration options from DUXTON Windows & Doors.
Regardless of the size of the project, the Shield team will meet you at your home, discuss your best options and then provide you with a description of how the project will be completed. Poul and David will follow through, including their involvement in the window and door installation, backed by their personal and corporate warranties.
Customer and building needs are always unique, but typically, the process includes the following steps:
- On-site consultation and discussion of possible approaches and product needs
- Measurement and finalizing product needs
- Complete estimate including cost and timeline
- Upon acceptance and deposit, final measurements are made, and products are ordered
- The work schedule is finalized with at least one week’s notice before the start date
- Work begins with the protection of home contents for the duration of the project
- Removal and disposal of old product
- Installation of new product per Canadian standards
- 20 Year Limited Warranty on the product
- 5 year Limited Warranty on the installation
A message from co-founder David Smeding
I started renovating windows in 2009 and quickly started to enjoy the work. Every home is built uniquely, and each situation calls for a custom solution, so finding the best way to get the job done is always a new challenge.
In 2012, Poul and I decided to start our own company. What I enjoyed most about renovating people’s windows and doors was how much just doing the windows and doors could improve someone’s home. First, customers were thrilled with the difference we made to the look of their homes or when we would create new openings, showing how much we could bring the outdoors in.
They would soon find out also how much more comfortable their home was. We have always had satisfied customers who showed much appreciation, which has been very rewarding.
The unexpected joy of our work was the relationships we built with customers, finding out what would work best for them and the best decision to improve their homes. Then, while completing the installation, we work with them when necessary to ensure they get the best experience.
We work with an excellent product that helps us keep people’s homes cool in the summer and warm in the winter while letting in the most light with each opening.
Duxton Windows is also a family-owned and operated company, so we can work closely with them to ensure that the product constantly improves and that customer service is at the top of our priorities.

Our mechanical all-glass sliding doors with HF shielding are a real bright spot — also in terms of design and functionality. Among other things, they have a security door lock that can also be opened from the inside.
Electric sliding doors — opaque or full glass
Our electric all-glass sliding doors with RF shielding make any MRI room look bigger and friendlier. The non-contact system for opening the door is a real labour-saver.
HF screen window — without moiré effect
Thanks to a special selection and placement of the RF fabric, our windows provide staff with an undistorted view of the MRI room. In addition, they have optimum sound insulation and are also available with an opening mechanism on request.

Installing Our Bulletproof Windows in a Home
Shield Security Doors bulletproof windows are designed to enhance the security of your home while complementing its architectural style. Available in single-hung, casement, awning, or fixed window styles, these windows are custom-made to integrate seamlessly into any design.
Dimensions: Custom dimensions are available, with heights up to 97 inches and widths up to 45 inches. Handgun-resistant glass is 1.5 inches thick, while rifle-resistant glass is 2 inches thick
