Note: I already had the latest firmware version installed. If you haven’t upgraded your firmware, do so before installing Windows 8 RTM. For the //Build tablets this is firmware version 05WJ. If you don’t your tablet will be unable to start after the installation of the RTM bits.
Samsung strongly urges retail slate users to also update to the latest firmware version before installing Windows 8. Also note that Samsung will not provide support for a slate that was originally installed with Windows 7. Why I do not know, I don’t like it either.
Ok, so yesterday I went ahead and flushed my slate. No in place upgrade this time. A fresh install. What I did was the following:
- Make a backup of your content (Skydrive comes to mind)
- Format a bootable USB key of 4GB. I used Fat32
- Download the Windows 8 iso, or insert the disk into your machine
- Copy the contents of the iso file to the empty usb disk (some slates can even boot by copying the iso file to the usb key as is).
- Now you have a usb installation key for Windows 8. Put it in the slate’s usb port.
Depending on whether you have the //Build Developer Device or a retail Samsung 7 Slate, the next steps differs:

Ok, so now you’re in Windows. In my case all drivers loaded themselves. While the touch drivers are updated, your slate may act weird. Wait for the driver installation to happen silently in the background. Touch should return to normal function automagically.
When I tried to activate it said «DNS not found». And I couldn’t find any place to enter my key (I installed Windows 8 Enterprise, it might be different for Pro). So I entered it from an Administrative command line (ctrl-shift-enter in the start menu, or slide tile down and start it as administrator from the options bar).

After activation a couple of drivers were updated. Nothing fancy.
The GPS sensor was not detected on the slate, no idea why I followed the hints provided here but so far I’ve only managed to get the Application Interface to show up. No GPS Sensor. So I installed Geosense instead. For what I use the location on the slate, that suffices.
At work the wifi still won’t work with the Windows 8 provided drivers. I was told this is a configuration issue with the Cisco access points we use, but since they’re out of my control I downgraded the Wifi drivers to the latest Windows 7 drivers which work just fine. Don’t forget to hide the driver update in Windows Update, otherwise your fix will be short lived.
The only issue I’m still bugged about, has to do with the HDMI connector on the dock. I was so hoping that the issues I have with it would have been a driver or software issue, but it looks like they’re hardware related. Luckily I have a workaround as long as the screen I work with has at least two connectors.
So far I’ve added the following additional device drivers to the system:
- Mouse and Keyboard Device Center (for my excellent Microsoft Touch mouse)
- Intel HD Graphics drivers for Windows 8
- Realtek drivers for the Ethernet port on the Dock (Windows 8 auto installer)
- Intel Chipset drivers
- Intel Rapid Storage drivers
- ST Micro Rotation sensor driver
- GPS Sensor Driver (only available if your slate has a 3G module)
- Wacom pen tablet drivers
- Xbox 360 wireless receiver
Note: Intel releases new drivers regularly. I’ve stopped updating the above list of links. To check whether you have the latest driver versions, visit the Intel Driver Update Utility page.
Then make sure you’ve backed up your Bitlocker recovery keys if you use the bitlocker security feature.
There is a firmware upgrade for the Touch sensors available which reduced tap-and-hold issues and generally improves the touch experience.
Remaining issues
- GPS is not working. Using Geosense as workaround. Option responded Samsung doesn’t support GPS on the standard 7 slates and thus can’t provide support for enabling it. They sent me back to Samsung to get it to work. Let’s see what will come of that…
- HDMI port on the dock has issues. See this blogpost for a workaround. Reply from Samsung support, no news on an update:

Установлены все самые распостраненные веб броузеры, включая самый крайний Мозила Файрфокс 14. Во всех броузерах через конфиги, настроено пальцевое управление. Вход в винду для работы пальцами, через учетку Admin, пароль 12345. Для установки своих прог используйте вход через учетку Administrator, пароль тот же. Ее можно вызвать нажав стрелку слева от учетки Admin. Для распаковки образа и заливки его на диск С планшета, используйте Акронис не ниже 2011. вот этот Инструкцию по работе с Акронисом читаем вот сдесь четвертый пункт. Перед заливкой образа на диск С. Рекомендуется разбить внутренюю ССД планшета на два диска. Первый это диск С, размером не менее 18, а лучше 20 гигов, все остальное пространство это диск Д. Разбивку можно произвести с помощью проги Акронис Диск Директор. При 20 гигах диска С, свободное пространство на С после распаковки данного образа , у вас будет около 8.5 гигов. Обязательно после установки восьмерки обновите прошивку сенсорного экрана планшета, до самой последней версии, скачать можно внизу вот сдесь. В момент прошивки обязательно надо быть подключенным к инету. Прошивальщик скачает свежую прошивку для сенсорного экрана и автоматом установит ее. Желательно перед переходом на восьмерку обновить биос планшета до последней версии отсюда

Винда активирована официально, и будет работать, до 16.01.2013. Русификатор не ставил, жду выхода официальной версии, кому хочется испробовать не официальный. Русик нужно ставить через учетку Administrator. А затем просто в учетке Admin в настройках можно будет включить интерфейс по умолчанию Русский, и перегрузив планшет получите и там русский язык. Если хотите получить полностью рабочий интерфейс Метро, со всеми рабочими сетевыми сервисами включая рабочий маркет с бесплатным и платным софтом, а также халявные 25 гигов дискового пространства на сайте Майкрософт под ваши файлы, то вам необходимо связать ваш локальный аккунт Админ, с вашим реальным аккунтом на сайте майкрософт Windows Live. Тогда у вас начнеться новая жизнь планшета, с новыми возможностями, включая даже и определение места без жпс, и куча всего вкусного. Делаеться это очень просто. запускаешь боковую панель быстрого доступа, там нажмешь пункт setting, затем в самом низу увидишь надпись More PC setting , жмешь ее и запускается большое окно белого цвета в котором можно менять стартовую метрошную картинку. Так вот на ней есть пункт Users. Жми его и увидишь справа откроются настройки, где в самом верху будет пункт связать с Майкрософт акунт, нажмешь его он спросит ввести твой пароль на вход в виндоус, а затем спросит данные твоего акунта на виндоус лайв. Это можно сделать только в учетке Admin. В учетке Administrator , такого пункта нет.

В данной статье будет описана установка операционной системы Windows 8.1 на планшет, в качестве примера будет использован планшетный компьютер Samsung xe500t1c-h01ru с док-станцией.
Если ваш планшет без док станции, то вам понадобится USB-хаб на 3 порта желательно с дополнительным питанием (например D-Link Dub-h4), чтобы помимо флешки подключить еще клавиатуру и мышь.
1. Скачиваем драйвера на официальном сайте, для планшета Samsung xe500t1c-h01ru скачиваем и устанавливаем программу Samsung Update. Открываем эту программу в поиске вводим название модели, а затем выбираем операционную систему.
После этого появляется список драйверов, утилит и программ, все драйвера необходимо экспортировать (скачать) на внешний носитель.
2. Покупаем операционную систему Windows 8.1 с лицензионным ключом, либо скачиваете ее с официального сайта https://www.microsoft.com/ru-ru/software-download/windows8ISO.
Внимание: если на Вашем планшетном ПК оперативной памяти меньше 4 гб, то скачиваете Windows 32bit (x86), а если больше 4 гб — windows 64bit (x64).
В процессе установке вам понадобится ключ на операционную систему, либо вам понадобится временный ключ, чтобы продолжить установку, а в последствии активировать через интернет или как-то еще)))
3. Создаем загрузочную флешку размером не меньше 4gb с помощью программы rufus-3.5. Более подробно о создании загрузочных флешек и где скачать rufus можно посмотреть в этой статье.
Выбираем флешку, образ, схему раздела GPT (раздел диска на планшете будем делать GPT, вместо MBR, т.к. он новее и надежнее). Файловую систему выбираем FAT32, т.к. NTFS планшет не увидит.
После создания загрузочной флешки переходим к следующему этапу.
Настройка Биос на примере планшета Samsung xe500t1c
Для входа в Bios используется зажимается клавиша F2, сразу после включения.
Далее выбираем раздел Security в пункте Secure Boot выбираем Disabled.
После сохраняем настройки и выходим при помощи клавиши F10.
Начинаем установку Windows 8.1
Вставляем в USB порт ранее созданную загрузочную флешку. Включаем планшет и зажимаем клавишу F10, чтобы войти в загрузочное меню.
Далее выбираем загрузку с флешки.
После этого начнется процесс установки операционной системны на планшетный компьютер.
Выбираем пункт Далее.
Затем нажимаем пункт Установить, после чего появится окно с вводом ключа Windows, вводим ранее подготовленный ключ и продолжаем установку.
Доходим до раздела разбивки SSD диска, удаляем все имеющиеся разделы.
Внимание все информация на SSD диске удалится!
Останется примерно 60gb (на вашем планшете может быть другой объем диска) неразмеченной области, нажимаем кнопку Создать.
Автоматически создастся три системных раздела и одни основной. Выбираем основной и нажимаем Далее.
Далее диск будет отформатирован и начнется установка Windows, после установки необходимо будет ввести имя компьютера и пароль (если необходимо).
На этом установка операционной системы закончится.
Обрати внимание в разделе Управления дисками в свойствах SSD диска на который установлена операционная система Стиль раздела: Таблица с GUID разделов, это означает что диск имеет схему раздела GPT. Схема раздела диска GPT является современной и более надежной.
Установка драйверов
Ранее с официального сайта с помощью программы Samsung Update скачали все драйвера на планшетный ПК. Теперь заходим в папку с драйверами и с помощью приложения SystemSoftware устанавливаем автоматически все драйвера на планшет.
Поскольку на Windows 8.1 все драйвера есть на официальном сайте, то установится они должны без проблем, «Танцев в бубном» быть не должно)))

3). After you use the Disc Creator, pop in the USB Stick to your computer and DO NOT RUN INSTALL ON WINDOWS 7 (We want it on a Tablet/Slate, remember?).

However, again and not to brag, when I get at least 200 daily visits because people can’t figure out how to install Windows 8 <edition here> on a Tablet/Slate (yes pretty easy), I thought why not post it here because obviously not enough people are getting it.

Just seems to be a strange hang that (after checking various forums) seems to happen mainly on Asus laptops,
apparently concerning the NVIDIA graphics driver which needs to be updated. For the moment they’ve only got
a W8 driver for the Release Preview build which doesn’t seem to solve the issue.

To be 100% honest, I am not sure about the setup part but for the USB Disc, should be the same and just make sure you boot from USB.
There is no Usb port in moto Xoom.

I’m interested to get it working on my Xoom, too. Yes it has an microSD slot. There are also OTG cables that you can mount USB sticks.
Guys, the Windows 8 architecture for the images (and RTM that is out now) is for x86 processors only at this time. The Android devices are ARM based. Won’t work.
Windows RT is going to support the ARM architecture, but will be a while (maybe never) before the ability to load it on Android hardware will happen.

The hub is good because the usb keyboard I’m using allows me to navigate the bios with the keys and what not but when I go to the boot menu, where it says usb cd drive it just says «:None» and only lists the internal hdd.
this has worked just fine with several other types of tablets but this samsung is the first to simply not recognize the drive at all. Bios settings are all factory default BTW.
Any ideas?

The hub is good because the usb keyboard I’m using allows me to navigate the bios with the keys and what not but when I go to the boot menu, where it says usb cd drive it just says «:None» and only lists the internal hdd.

First I recommend you remove the stick from any device and only plugged straight in the stick.
Also, did you create the USB Stick with the Microsoft USB Stick Creator? If not, try it and also let me know what you used previously.
