The Samsung ML-1210 text is sharp enough to be easily readable at 5 points in some fonts. Like the Lexmark printer, the lines in the graphics are clear and the black fills are solid.

Again, light gray lines on a white background and thin white lines on a black background are not displayed. However, photos are noticeably better than the E210’s, with the output classed as close to photo quality.

However, the Samsung ML-1210 printer ran slightly slower in most other tests. For example, the PowerPoint file took 48.7 seconds, compared to the E210’s 48.1 seconds. Overall, however, the difference was so small that the two printers were essentially focused on performance. And of course both are much faster than inkjet for text.

A clear win for the ML-1210 is the cost per page, which is 2.8 cents based on the price of toner and the claimed 2,500 pages per cartridge. If you enable toner saver mode, the cost is even lower.

Even at 2.8 cents per page, the savings over the Lexmark amounts to $6 per ream of paper, which can add up quickly over the life of the printer. For now, this is enough to make the ML-1210 the laser printer of choice in the sub-$200 category.
