So, I thought I’d get some opinions, I’m not really sure where to go from here and thought I’d ask around. So thanks an amazing crappy firmware Crucial had on my SSD, it actually caused heavy wear much faster than it should have, they’ve supposedly had a firmware update to fix this in the past that’s a few years old except their firmware updater doesn’t want to update it, a very well known issue I have found, that no one has the best solution, none have worked for me anyway. Great updater, it just says it’s successful then leaves you on the old version, anyway, getting off that topic…
I have an Asus x370-A Prime mobo with a Ryzen 7 1800X. A good CPU for it’s time, and I have no intention of retiring this right now. Unfortunately thanks to that SSD wearing issue above, I have in a state where I have 4% lifetime left on my SSD and I need to get planning on replacing it. As is commonly known now I think, MS has plans to scrap updates for Windows 10 in 2025. I like 10, I know 11 has some quirks I have not heard good things about, but I kind of feel like they’re going to railroad me if I don’t want my PC vulnerable in the future. Unfortunately, the 1800X is «officially speaking,» not compatible. This also means that if I want to «easily» slip into Windows 11 later the easiest route of windows update is not a choice, it’s simply…. not going to allow it.
I originally thought this didn’t have an fTPM but looking at it now, and having enabled it in the BIOS it doesn’t say that’s even a problem, just that it’s officially not compatible. I have seen some accounts on the internet where some people didn’t seem to care about issues with it so much with this CPU w/ W11, but not enough opinions to feel comfortable about it. I know very well that there’s an fTPM issue that caused stuttering for Ryzen in Windows 11, and it required a BIOS update to fix and I’m very concerned about this. I don’t want that stutter.
So I went to update my BIOS/UEFI tonight, and it has an internet option which is nice and handy. Now, thing is, the BIOS it gave me, and it won’t update any further than this, is saying I have the newest, which is from ~2020ish I believe. This is before the stutter patch was implemented. This is very concerning.
My mobo is this one you can see the bios versions here, iirc it was 5602 it installed and said was «newest» as you can see that’s definitely not the newest. https://www.asus.com/supportonly/prime%20×370-a/helpdesk_bios/ I have heard that AMD was only «allowing» certain things to run certain AGESA versions or something? I dunno, I’m just wondering what the deal is here, and does anyone else think I should even try to bother with 11 right now. I really don’t want headaches later on, though I think it’s going to be a headache now, and as someone that games I SERIOUSLY do not want that stutter potential the rest of my rig is already getting dated as it is and I can’t afford to upgrade anyway, and I have enough stress as it is lol.
But as you also see in the BIOS versions, it wasn’t till 5606 they put in something saying Windows 11 doesn’t need any settings changes to work anymore. Then the stutter wasn’t fixed till 6042 in 2022. But the internet updater inside the BIOS says I have the newest one already, which is obviously not true. I don’t know if there’s a compatibility issue here. I could manually get these newer ones and try to flash them, but I’d also rather not brick, or even half-brick, my computer in the process, I’m not really sure if this would cause a compatibility issue if I attempted to.
So if anyone has any thought or opinions on that situation I’m all ears, thanks.

I’m gonna ask the obvious question, why is 6900K, a direct competitor to R7 1800X not listed in the charts? Comparing enthusiast level cruncher like 1800X to several mainstream Core i7’s is a bit silly. Когда я покупал Ryzen 5 1600 в начале 2020 года, последнее о чем я думал, так это то, что процессор так быстро устареет даже для поддержки Windows. Обычно это происходит для процессоров старше 10 лет и более, но в этот раз Microsoft решила, что с новейшей ОС Windows 11 достойны работать только процессоры AMD с микроархитектурой Zen+ и новее, и Intel Coffee Lake и новее. Ryzen 5 1600 AF, несмотря на то, что построен на архитектуре Zen+, не поддерживается в Windows 11, о чем мне сообщила утилита проверки совместимости с Windows 11.
Но я, как энтузиаст, проводящий эксперименты и исследования разных ОС, не мог оставить без внимания тот факт, что некоторым пользователям удалось установить Windows 11 на не поддерживаемое железо довольно простыми методами и заставить прекрасно работать. Сегодня мы этим и займемся, но для начала нужно решить вопрос получения установочного дистрибутива системы.
Получение образа Windows 11
На данный момент легальным способом получения Windows 11 на ваш ПК является участие в программе предварительной оценки Windows 11, которое позволит установить последние сборки Windows 11 Insider Preview. Самым быстрым способом получения Windows 11 Insider Preview стала унифицированная платформа обновления Unified Update Platform (UUP), которая очень упростила создание загрузочных ISO-образов Windows.
Самый удобный способ работы с UUP дает сервис WZT-UUP, с помощью которого я и загрузил средство создания установочного образа Windows 11.
Сборка образа занимает некоторое время, по окончании которого вы получаете образ, готовый для установки, который можно записать на флешку с помощью утилиты Rufus или любой подобной.
Название с Linux у флешки осталось от прежних установок
Установка Windows 11
Теперь можно приступить к обходу ограничения несовместимости Windows 11 с комплектующими, и отсутствием TPM 2.0 и Secure Boot. Делать это я буду в ознакомительных целях, для получения возможности оценить новую ОС в работе на настоящем «железе», чтобы понять, стоит ли беспокоиться пользователям Windows 10 и надо ли планировать апгрейд для обеспечения поддержки «железом» Windows 11.
Обход ограничения делается очень просто. Достаточно добавить на флешку с дистрибутивом Windows 11 файл реестра со следующим содержанием:

«BypassSecureBootCheck»=dword:0000000
В начале установки Windows 11, после появления окна выбора языка, надо нажать Shift + F10, и в открывшейся командной строке запустить редактор реестра командой «regedit».
После этого надо произвести экспорт reg-файла, после чего установка Windows 11 продолжится как обычно.
В результате установленная Windows 11 работает на не поддерживаемом «железе» и особых проблем замечено не было.
Тесты
После установки можно приступить к сравнению производительности Windows 11 с Windows 10 версии 21H1, тесты которой я предварительно провел на этом же ПК. В тестах не будет игр, так как моя видеокарта GeForce GT 1030 плохо подходит для того, чтобы уловить разницу в пару-тройку процентов, которая обычно бывает у разных версий Windows.
Характеристики тестируемого ПК таковы: Ryzen 5 1600 AF, материнская плата MSI B450-A PRO MAX, 2х16 ГБ ОЗУ CRUCIAL Ballistix Sport LT AES с разгоном до 3400 МГц, SSD-накопитель Samsung 860 EVO SATA.
А вот тесты, завязанные на процессорную мощь ПК, будут особенно интересны, учитывая то, что Ryzen 5 1600 уже слишком старый для Windows 11 процессор. Начнем с комплексного теста PCMark 10, спроектированного для тестирования процессора, материнской платы, ОЗУ, и накопителя с помощью имитации архивации данных, кодирования и декодирования аудио и видео, производительности физического движка. PCMark 10 наглядно показывает, как будет вести себя ПК в сложной работе по созданию контента, общению по видеосвязи и обработке архивов.
В Windows 10 мой ПК набрал 4119 очков в PCMark 10.
В Windows 11 результат выше и составил 4360 очков. Выросли почти все показатели, за исключением Chat Score который немного выше на Windows 10.
Далее будут выборочные тесты из AIDA64, сначала в Windows 10.
В Windows 11 результаты подросли, даже показатель задержки памяти.
А вот в тесте производительности WinRAR результат Windows 11 ниже на 5%, что довольно странно, глядя на прирост в тестах выше.
В тесте CPU-Z обе системы показали примерно одинаковый результат.
Конечно, выводы о производительности Windows 11 делать несколько рано, но прирост в «синтетике» довольно интересен.
Минусы новой ОС
Есть несколько нюансов, которые стоят отдельного внимания. Во-первых, увеличилось время загрузки системы, до 18.8 секунд на свежей системе (Steam использовался для запуска PCMark 10). Таких цифр на SSD я не видел даже на совсем старой установке Windows 10, с автозагрузкой, забитой сторонним софтом.
Неприятно удивило контекстное меню проводника, вызываемое нажатием правой кнопки мыши. Упрощенное до неприличия, оно сразу дает понять, что оптимизировалось для владельцев планшетов и сенсорных экранов.
И только нажав в нем Shift + F10 мы получаем нормальное меню, к которому привыкли за долгое время общения с Windows. Подобные «оптимизации» и движения в сторону мобильных устройств всегда заканчивались у Microsoft провалом, достаточно вспомнить меню пуск из Windows 8, и провальные мобильные ОС. Но корпорация, несмотря на это, все так же пытается уйти от классического десктопа.
Выводы
Чтобы делать окончательные выводы, стоит подождать релиза Windows 11, который планируется на 20 октября 2021 года, но пара моментов в новой ОС не может не радовать. Первое — это прирост в синтетике, который никогда не бывает лишним. Второе — смена циклов больших обновлений системы с полугодового на один раз в год. В Microsoft наконец-то поняли, что большие обновления ОС так часто не нужны пользователям, а в сочетании с багами при обновлениях, о которых без перерыва пишут СМИ, они превращаются в головную боль для пользователей.
Ну а существующие минусы, думаю, будут исправлены как с помощью самой Microsoft, так и наработками энтузиастов, которым часто удается сделать систему гораздо дружелюбнее к пользователю и быстрее.

The following processors are part of the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 7 Pro 1700 series:
- Ryzen 7 1700
- Ryzen 7 1700X
- Ryzen 7 Pro 1700

These processors were first released between March to June 2017. In a way, these processors are quite old as the launch took place 8 years back.
Ryzen 7 1700 Series – Windows 11 compatibility
All four Ryzen 7 1700 processors are incompatible with Windows 11. So, you can update your current operating system installation to Windows 11 on such systems.
For reference, you can check Microsoft’s Windows 11 compatible processor list. You can see that the Ryzen 7 1700 series processors are missing in the list.
If you are running Windows 10 on Ryzen 7 1700 series processors, you have an issue coming up in October 2025. Windows 10 will become end of life on 14 October 2025. After that date, security updates for Windows 10 will not be released by Microsoft.
What does it mean and where would that leave you with the current system?
After 14 October 2025, regular security updates for Windows 10 will not be released. Extended security updates for Windows 10 will be released instead.
You could choose to enroll in Extended Security Update program for Windows 10. This will require a subscription fee to be paid to Microsoft. With Extended security updates, you can extend security coverage on Windows 10 systems for a period between 1 to 3 years.
If you are unwilling to buy ESU for Windows 10 subscription, you could choose to run Windows 10 without security update coverage. This is not recommended for business computers for the inherent risks your system would be exposed to.
Ryzen 7 1800X Processors
While we are at it, let us also make a passing reference to the Ryzen 7 1800X series processor. Like the Ryzen 7 1700 series processor, this processor is also dated. And, like Ryzen 7 1700 series processors, the 1800X processor is not compatible with Windows 11.
Where does this leave you? Read below to find credible alternatives.
Extended Security Updates – Cost considerations
Bear in mind that cost of extended security updates is higher than regular software license costs for Windows 10.
A more long term solution could be to retire to donate the incompatible system and get a new computer.
Alternatively, you could upgrade the processor and motherboard of the computer to something that is compatible with Windows 11. This would reuse the monitor and other peripherals of the old computer. A part of new system cost could be conserved using this particular option.
Should I install Windows 11 on incompatible processors?
Technically, it is possible to install Windows 11 on incompatible systems or processors. However, we do not recommend installing or upgrading to Windows 11 on unsupported computers for the following reasons:
- Access to Windows 11 security updates is not guaranteed for such unsupported computers.
- There is a high possibility of system malfunction due to inherent incompatibility of software or hardware.

The official announcement of Windows 11 last month brought both excitement and confusion for enthusiasts. A brand-new Windows operating system only comes around every few years, but Microsoft’s hardware requirements left many scratching their heads. Chief among them is the instance on mandatory TPM 2.0 modules and AMD Ryzen 2000 or 7th generation Intel Core (and newer) processors.
The processor cutoff was particularly puzzling, considering that AMD’s first-generation Ryzen 1000 processors came out in 2017, which is not that old in the grand scheme of things. For example, the 8-core/16-thread Ryzen 7 1800X is still a perfectly acceptable processor for everyday productivity tasks.
After hearing the outcry from the PC community, Microsoft posted a new blog today detailing a rethink of its minimum system requirements. “As we release to Windows Insiders and partner with our OEMs, we will test to identify devices running on Intel 7th generation and AMD Zen 1 that may meet our principles,” wrote the Windows Team. “We’re committed to sharing updates with you on the results of our testing over time, as well as sharing additional technical blogs.”
The fact that Microsoft is looking into these older processors is promising, but there’s no guarantee that they’ll meet its performance standards for Windows 11. As for why the company settled on its Ryzen 2000/7th gen Core cutoff in the first place, Microsoft provides these three justifications:
- Security. Windows 11 raises the bar for security by requiring hardware that can enable protections like Windows Hello, Device Encryption, virtualization-based security (VBS), hypervisor-protected code integrity (HVCI) and Secure Boot. The combination of these features has been shown to reduce malware by 60% on tested devices. To meet the principle, all Windows 11 supported CPUs have an embedded TPM, support secure boot, and support VBS and specific VBS capabilities.
- Reliability. Devices upgraded to Windows 11 will be in a supported and reliable state. By choosing CPUs that have adopted the new Windows Driver model and are supported by our OEM and silicon partners who are achieving a 99.8% crash free experience.
- Compatibility. Windows 11 is designed to be compatible with the apps you use. It has the fundamentals of >1GHz, 2-core processors, 4GB memory, and 64GB of storage, aligning with our minimum system requirements for Office and Microsoft Teams.
In addition to the aforementioned AMD and Intel processors, Microsoft also says that Qualcomm Snapdragon 7- and 8-Series SoCs are fully compatible out of the box with Windows 11.
For those who want to hop in and install Windows 11, it is available now via the Windows Insider program. Also, be sure to download the Windows 11 Health Check app to see if your system is compatible before you run into disappointment.
