What are portable email clients?
Email client software allows you to easily check all your emails from multiple email accounts by automatically downloading them to your computer via POP3 or IMAP protocol. It also allows you to send out emails by just launching the program without going through your web browser and manually logging in. Another advantage in using an email client software is you are able to access the downloaded emails and view them in offline mode which is very useful if you do not have an Internet connection at that time.
There are quite a few email client software and Microsoft Outlook which comes together with Microsoft Office is one of the most used email clients in corporate environments due to its powerful features. 1. Portable Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla Thunderbird is free and highly recommended but do take note that the portable email client version is not officially released by Mozilla.
2. Pegasus Mail

The installer by default extracts the program to C:\PMAIL but it is in fact portable where the whole folder can be copied to another location such as the USB flash drive. Just make sure that the “roaming mode” is checked during installation. Pegasus Mail is free.
3. Opera Mail Portable
Opera is another popular and free web browser that comes with a built-in email client feature. The portable version is also created and released by PortableApps, the same group that releases the portable version of Thunderbird.
4. Becky! Internet Mail
Becky! Internet Mail is a shareware email client software and it comes with a feature that allows you to copy the files to a USB flash drive. Click on the File from the menubar and select “Sync with Portable Media”. Then specify the sync name which will be used as the folder name on the portable media, followed by selecting the media.
5. Sylpheed
Slypheed is a free and open source email client software that is lightweight and user friendly. By default it is already a portable email application and you can simply download the zip archive version and extract it to your USB flash drive.
6. Koma-Mail
Koma-Mail is a free email client software that has been around for some quite time. Download the portable version and on the first run, select “Koma-Mail directory” as the location to store the data.
7. i.Scribe
i.Scribe is yet another free and portable email client that has been around for many years that comes with a built-in spam filter engine. The stable version was released about 4 years ago but recently they have been releasing new beta versions. When you first run i.Scribe, just click the Yes button when asked if you want to keep the options and mail folders in the application folder.
8. EmailVoyager
EmailVoyager is developed and sold by Poco Systems, the same company of the outdated PocoMail PE. The portable email software comes in a custom made USB flash drive.
9. The Bat! Voyager
The Bat! Voyager is the portable version of the popular The Bat! email client software. It is a shareware and the license is automatically included when you purchase the Professional license. The Bat! is well known for privacy where it encrypts and password protect the messages and address book.
10. TrulyMail Portable
TrulyMail Portable is a free email client software. It differs from the rest of the email clients because it requires you to first create an account at TrulyMail and then only allowing you to add your own email accounts.
There you have it, 10 portable email client software that are current and maintained. PocoMail PE, JBMail and Tech-Pro POP3 Pal has been removed from the list because it is outdated and no longer being maintained.

nPOPuk позволяет работать одновременно с несколькими почтовыми ящиками, отправлять сообщения с вложениями и оперативно уведомлять о новой входящей корреспонденции, но при этом «весит» всего чуть более полумегабайта!

Если сравнивать nPOPuk с платным аналогом, то можно сказать, что у него только один недостаток – недостаточно информативное окно уведомления о входящей почте. В остальном же наш мини-клиент намного более функционален.
Подготовка к работе с программой
Как уже говорилось выше, nPOPuk – портативная программа, а значит, традиционной установки не требует. Вам нужно просто скачать с нашего сайта архив и распаковать его в удобное место на жестком диске.
В архиве помимо самого почтового клиента (который представляет собой всего один исполняемый файл), Вы найдете также частично русифицированную версию программы и папку «Настроечные файлы».
В ней лежат несколько примеров файлов для быстрой настройки доступа к почте на некоторых популярных E-Mail-сервисах.
В принципе, оригинальный EXE-файл Вы можете удалить и использовать для запуска программы только файл «nPOPuk(RUS).exe», на примере которого мы и разберемся с работой клиента.
Подключение к аккаунту электронной почты
nPOPuk при первом запуске попросит нас подключить хотя бы один действующий аккаунт электронной почты. При этом по умолчанию программа предлагает нам воспользоваться для этого специальным файлом настройки.
Провайдер — компания, предоставляющая услугу связи.
В архиве Вы найдете примеры таких файлов для сервисов Mail.Ru, Ukr.NET, Gmail и HotMail, однако, если у Вас другой почтовый провайдер, то Вам лучше убрать галочку «Использовать файл настройки» и задать конфигурацию почтовых серверов вручную:
Появится окно настройки почтового аккаунта. Шесть вкладок, две из которых нужно заполнить в обязательном порядке.
Настройка входящей почты (POP3)
POP3 (англ. Post Office Protocol Version 3) — протокол почтового отделения, версия 3.
Вкладка «POP3» нужна нам для того чтобы задать параметры сервера входящей почты, который работает по протоколу POP3.
Его поддерживают практически все современные почтовые провайдеры.
Здесь самое главное правильно заполнить поле «POP3 сервер» и ввести свои логин и пароль от почтового ящика.
Адрес сервера обычно совпадает с адресом Вашего провайдера с припиской «pop.» или «pop3.» (наличие тройки уточняйте в справке на сайте провайдера).
Также обратите внимание на дополнительные параметры подключения:
MD5 (англ. Message Digest 5) — 128-битный алгоритм хеширования (преобразования произвольного блока данных в строку фиксированной длины).
- «Включить APOP» – команда POP-протокола, которая позволяет на некоторых сервисах включить шифрованную передачу Вашего пароля (шифруется по алгоритму MD5);
- «Включить SSL» – функция установки шифрованного соединения с сервером электронной почты. Некоторые провайдеры работают только по защищенному каналу, поэтому обязательно требуют включения данной опции и изменения порта (чаще всего на 995);
- «Отключить команду ‘RETR’» – эта функция позволяет принудительно запретить полную загрузку сообщения на компьютер. При активации данной опции будет автоматически загружен только заголовок письма и первые несколько строк.
- «Избавиться от Проверить все/Обновить все» – эта опция позволяет исключить текущий аккаунт из списка проверяемых при помощи команд «Проверить все» и «Обновить все».
Настройка отправки (SMTP)
После настройки конфигурации сервера входящей почты нужно перейти на вкладку «SMTP» и указать параметры сервера исходящих сообщений:
Здесь адрес сервера обычно всегда соответствует адресу провайдера с припиской «smtp.», а основное внимание следует обратить на вопрос авторизации и защищенного соединения.
Большинство серверов требуют пароля для отправки почты с указанного аккаунта, поэтому, скорее всего, Вам понадобится активировать первый пункт «Включить SMTP-авторизацию».
По умолчанию для авторизации будут использованы данные, введенные Вами для POP-подключения, однако некоторые сервисы требуют шифрования пароля. Эту функцию можно включить, нажав кнопку «Настройки» и выбрав нужный тип шифрования.
Также, большинство серверов разрешают отправлять почту только по защищенному каналу, что потребует от Вас активации второго пункта «Включить SSL». В «Настройках» здесь можно выбрать требуемый тип шифрования (по умолчанию определяется автоматически).
«POP перед SMTP» – это альтернативный вариант SMTP-авторизации, который иногда встречается на старых сервисах.
Если Вы при попытке отправить письмо получите сообщение о том, что сервер не может разрешить Ваш IP, то, скорее всего, на сервере используется именно этот тип авторизации.
Последний пункт «Всегда Bcc» позволяет всегда добавлять к отправляемым письмам поле с так называемой «скрытой копией».
Это может пригодиться Вам, если Вы хотите отправить письмо нескольким людям, но не хотите, чтобы они видели адреса остальных получателей, которые и прописываются в данном поле.
Остальные настройки
На этом можно и завершить подключение аккаунта, а можно и продолжить, настроив некоторые параметры в остальных разделах (кстати, это можно будет сделать и позже, выбрав в контекстном меню ящика пункт «Править»).
В соответствующих вкладках мы можем задать:
- свою уникальную подпись ко всем исходящим письмам;
- параметры фильтрации и сортировки входящих сообщений;
- способы соединения (по умолчанию – LAN);
- способы получения корреспонденции (по умолчанию используются глобальные настройки).
Сохраняем все настройки кнопкой «Ок».
Получение писем и уведомлений о новых сообщениях
Итак, если мы все правильно сделали, то перед нами появится рабочее окно программы с только что созданным почтовым ящиком, и мы сможем получить для этого ящика все письма.
Для этого достаточно выделить название аккаунта на левой панели и нажать кнопку «Проверить аккаунт» или «Проверить все аккаунты» (если Вы не отключили эту опцию при настройке):
Все письма, которые есть на сервере, будут загружены как непрочитанные.
Храниться они будут в файле MailBox0.dat в той же папке, что и запускаемый файл nPOPuk(RUS).exe.
Если перечитывать их все заново нет особого желания, то можно поступить намного проще: выделить их все (например, сочетанием клавиш CTRL+A) и нажать кнопку «Пометить как прочитанное»:
Так мы избавимся от напоминаний о старых письмах и будем готовы принимать новые.
По умолчанию nPOPuk проверяет почту только в ручном режиме и соответственно, не уведомляет нас о новых входящих сообщениях.
Если у Вас безлимитный Интернет, то предлагаю исправить этот недостаток. Это делается очень просто: достаточно в меню «Файл» активировать пункт «Включить автопроверку».
Также, можно настроить кое-какие параметры этой функции.
В том же меню «Файл» активируем пункт «Глобальные настройки» и переходим на вкладку «Проверка».
Обязательно убедитесь, что активирована первая галочка «Отображать оповещение о новой почте», а далее можете настроить все по своему вкусу.
К примеру, можно задать собственный звук для оповещения о почте (в формате WAV) или изменить интервал проверки со стандартных 10 минут, до 1.
Если Вы сделали все, как было описано выше, то когда на Ваш ящик придет сообщение, Вы увидите следующее уведомление:
Нажав «Да», Вы сможете немедленно прочитать новое сообщение. Соответственно, нажатие «Нет» позволит Вам продолжить работу за ПК и отложить чтение на потом.
Чтение почты в nPOPuk
Вот мы и дошли до функции чтения писем. Для того, чтобы прочитать сообщение достаточно просто дважды кликнуть по нему левой кнопкой мыши или воспользоваться пунктом «Открыть» из меню «Почта»:
Здесь мы видим, что окно чтения почты состоит из:
- строки меню;
- панели инструментов, которая предоставляет доступ к наиболее востребованным функциям;
- строки заголовков, где указывается от кого пришло сообщение и его тема;
- рабочего поля, на котором и отображается текст сообщения.
nPOPuk по умолчанию работает только в текстовом режиме, то есть, все HTML-теги, использованные для разметки, (кроме ссылок) будут удалены и мы сможем видеть только чистый текст со ссылками.
Если же мы захотим посмотреть оригинальный вид письма со всеми картинками и красивостями, придется немного поднапрячься.
В окне чтения идем в меню «Вид» и жмем пункт «text/html».
Откроется окно «Вложенный файл», где в качестве вложения будет фигурировать нужный нам HTML-документ.
Отмечаем пункт «Открыть», жмем «Ok» и любуемся оригиналом письма в браузере:
Кстати, сформированная страница будет храниться в специальной папке «attach» рядом с исполняемым файлом программы.
Отправка писем
Написать и отправить письмо из nPOPuk можно двумя способами.
1. Создание нового сообщения
Для этого нужно нажать кнопку «Новое сообщение» на основной панели инструментов.
Сначала откроется окно «Свойства», в котором нужно будет указать, с какого аккаунта и кому отправляется письмо.
Также, здесь Вы можете:
- Указать тему сообщения;
- «Вложить» в электронное письмо любые файлы;
- Добавить получателей.
- Настроить приоритет письма (поддерживается не всеми E-Mail-сервисами).
- Включить уведомления о получении и прочтении Вашего сообщения адресатом.
После заполнения всех нужных полей жмем «OK» и попадаем в редактор сообщения (его окно будет на следующем скриншоте).
2. Ответ на входящее письмо
Второй вариант зачастую более удобен. Чтобы его использовать, можно:
- выделить нужное письмо в списке и в контекстном меню выбрать пункт «Ответить»;
- либо открыть это же письмо и нажать одноименную кнопку на панели инструментов.
Появится окно редактора сообщений с цитированием выбранного письма:
Как видно со скриншота, ответ мы по умолчанию пишем вверху, над цитированием, но это (если нужно) можно легко изменить в общих настройках во вкладке «Ответ».
Также там Вы сможете настроить шаблон цитирования, который по умолчанию на английском и символ цитаты (по умолчанию «>»).
После того, как Ваше сообщение примет нужный вид его можно:
- немедленно отправить, нажав кнопку «Отправить сейчас»;
- отложить отправку до обновления данных («Сохранить и отметить»);
- или даже просто сохранить в Исходящих, чтобы отправить вручную когда-нибудь позже («Сохранить в Исходящих»).
В любом случае, какую бы кнопку Вы ни нажали, Ваше письмо сохранится в специальной папке, которая называется «[Outbox]» и находится в списке ящиков в самом верху.
К сожалению, переименовать эту папку Вы не сможете. Более того, в ней будет сохраняться вся исходящая корреспонденция из всех подключенных аккаунтов, что не очень удобно :(. Но за неимением иных вариантов, придётся с этим смириться.
В данной папке, как уже говорилось выше, могут храниться как уже отправленные сообщения (значок конверта на скриншоте), так и помеченные к отправлению (иконка с красной стрелкой) и просто сохраненные (без иконки).
Отправленные письма не требуют нашего вмешательства, так как уже были успешно отосланы получателю. Если же при отправке произошел сбой, то письма автоматом помечаются к отложенной отправке.
Отложенная отправка всех отмеченных сообщений производится при локальном или глобальном обновлении аккаунтов. Чтобы отправить все ожидающие письма нужно зайти в папку [Outbox] и нажать на панели инструментов кнопку «Обновить аккаунт».
Работа с адресной книгой
В nPOPuk есть много полезностей, но одной из наиболее важных и нужных, на мой взгляд, является «Адресная книга»:
В ней мы можем хранить неограниченное количество контактов с возможностью добавления комментариев к каждому из них. Получить доступ к Адресной книге можно из меню «Файл» или по клику одноименной кнопки на панели инструментов основного окна.
Помимо ввода адреса, псевдонима и комментария к контакту мы можем также задать для него группу, чтобы в нужный момент быстрее и удобнее находить нужные адреса.
В режиме написания письма к Адресной книге можно быстро получить доступ, кликнув кнопку «Кому».
Достоинства и недостатки программы
Плюсы:
- маленький, но практически полноценный мобильный почтовый клиент;
- возможность отправки писем с вложениями;
- поддержка протокола SSL;
- уведомления о новых входящих письмах;
- различные варианты загрузки и управления сообщениями.
Минусы:
- нет функции автоматической сортировки писем (можно обойти при помощи функций локальной и глобальной фильтрации);
- довольно сложная система дополнительных настроек;
- нет поддержки привычной кодировки windows-1251 (вместо нее используется iso-8859-5, которая не всегда корректно отображает некоторые знаки препинания и буквы);
- нет встроенного просмотрщика/редактора HTML.
Выводы
Без сомнения можно сказать, что nPOPuk – один из самых продвинутых мини-клиентов для работы с электронной почтой. Несмотря на свои скромные размеры, он вмещает такие функции, которые не всегда встречаются даже в полноценных почтовых программах (например, команда POP перед SMTP)!
Соответственно грех жаловаться на то, что чего-то в программе не хватает. Как для мобильного клиента в ней есть все!
Немного огорчило меня то, что я не смог до конца русифицировать интерфейс программы. У меня было два варианта действий:
- скачать исходники и перевести их (был бы полный перевод);
- или попытаться локализовать программу при помощи редактора ресурсов.
Я решил пойти хитрым путем и поправить язык через Resource Hacker… Но даже после перевода всех доступных ресурсов, некоторые строчки (особенно в меню) остались на английском и с этим я ничего поделать не смог, поэтому оставил русификацию в таком виде, в каком Вы её видите на скриншотах.

Электронная почта сегодня, безусловно, играет очень важную роль в общении людей в Интернете. С ее помощью можно не только отправлять и получать простые текстовые письма, но и отправлять любые файлы своим адресатам, практически без ограничений!
Исторически сложилось два подхода к работе с электронной почтой. Те, у кого Интернет (а соответственно и E-Mail) был еще в 90-х – начале 2000-х, привыкли для проверки почтового ящика использовать специальные почтовые программы.
Эти приложения позволяют проверять наличие сообщений в неограниченном количестве ящиков, редактировать и отправлять электронные письма, практически без каких-либо ограничений.
Минусом же таких программ является их «привязанность» к рабочему ПК и иногда излишняя громоздкость (особенно, если добавлять функционал при помощи плагинов).
Второй тип подхода к работе с E-Mail сформировался уже в 2000-е, когда у пользователей начал появляться скоростной безлимитный Интернет. Суть его в том, что почта проверяется прямо на сайте провайдера при помощи веб-интерфейса.
Плюс такого подхода в том, что проверить свой ящик Вы можете с любого устройства, имеющего выход в Интернет, без необходимости установки сторонних программ! Однако в нем есть и минус – при наличии аккаунтов на нескольких сервисах, Вам придется постоянно метаться между сайтами для проверки сообщений.
Да и вводить свои пароли на незнакомых компьютерах – занятие небезопасное.
Поэтому продвинутые пользователи предпочитают использовать третий путь – небольшие портативные почтовые клиенты.
Их плюс в том, что они предоставляют все базовые функции полноценных почтовых программ, позволяют мониторить несколько почтовых аккаунтов одновременно, но при этом имеют небольшой размер и могут запускаться прямо с флешки или даже с дискеты!
