A lot of people tried running Linux and Android on their Nintendo Switch in the past few years. It has been a year now that a YouTube user demonstrated Windows XP booting on Nintendo Switch. As a result, Windows XP fans tried to run the OS on their devices as well.
Redditor Alfonso Dingo Torres Jauregui, made a recent attempt that came under the highlights. He explained how his attempt turned out to be a successful one.
He basically installed L4T Linux and used QEMU to run Windows XP on Nintendo Switch. The user also says that the total installation and setup process took around 6 hours.
Enjoy Pinball 3D at a full speed
Jauregui used QEMU to run Windows XP on a virtual machine. Virtualization is a process where an OS runs on top of another one.
You may be thinking about the performance of the system. The user claims that anyone can enjoy Pinball 3D “at a full speed”.
When talking about the specifications he says,
I have the Cinnamon DE running and have a 2GB Swap dime in order to keep things nice and smooth.
He clearly said that if you want to replicate the procedure on your Nintendo Switch you should first install QEMU and allocate a 10 GB hard disk space.
This recent experiment proves that Nintendo Switch is a lot more than a simple gaming console. Jauregui says that his modified version of the Switch is working perfectly well until now.
Some Reddit users are excited to play Pinball 3D on their console devices. Furthermore, they also demanded Jauregui to try some more games.
It looks like users are interested in running more such experiments. They wonder if joycons works as inputs within Windows XP.
Yeah but can the XP system run Android in a VM with another nested VM inside it running Ubuntu that run Yuzu emulator on top of it?
Comment down below if you are one of those who tried out Windows XP on their Nintendo Switch.

Tegra Recovery Mode.
Nintendo Switch owner and homebrew user Alfonso Dingo Torres Jauregui has successfully found a way to install and run the Windows XP operating system on Nintendo Switch.
To install Windows XP on the Switch, first Alfonso had to install Linux on the Switch. Then, through something called virtualization, where another operating system runs on another operating system, he installs and runs Windows XP through QEMU.
Here it is in its full glory in Handheld Mode:
According to Alfonso, it took 6 hours for him to fully install Windows XP and reach the desktop.
Although the speed isn’t anything great, 3D Pinball for Windows runs “at full speed”.
Alfonso has been using the Switch as his personal computer for the last few days for a variety of tasks:

I am sure you have seen a Nintendo Switch emulator on Windows XP, but have you seen Windows XP running on Nintendo Switch? Yes, it actually works, and you can even play Pinball on it. A Redditor with username We1etu1n just showed his work on the SwitchHaxingSubreddit with a picture of a Switch with the iconic green hills wallpaper of Window XP and the old blue taskbar.
Apparently, the man had been using this Switch for few days via L4T Linux. It took him 6 hours to install the system, and although it was chunky, the combination was still able to «run Pinball 3D at full speed.»
We1etu1n real name is Alfonso Torres. When he was asked why he chose Win XP, he said XP porting is really popular in the hacking community, it like making Doom run on «toaster or calculator,«, it’s fun to see absurdly things work.
The way he makes the project was to use L4T Ubuntu, a Linux build «based on Nvidia’s Linux for Tegra project.» The build is custom-made for the Switch hardware. And if Linux can run on something, it opens up all kinds of possibilities.
The Switch’s dock includes a USB Type-C hub, making it possible for a USB keyboard/mouse and also an HDMI output. Seemingly, the Switch turned out to be a decent mini-PC.
Torres thinks The Switch is actually a quite powerful device. Since the Linux build came out, he has been using the Switch as his main to do all the work and everything was flawless. Only a few programs didn’t work because they are not compatible.
As a prove, Torres recorded a video of him playing Space Cadet Pinball on The Switch with a keyboard. The game was running perfectly smooth inside the mini-PC with only one little hiccup. There is no sound, the audio didn’t work in the VM. But it’s no big deal, we all have been playing this game for long enough to create its sound in our head anyway.

Recently, an account on the social network Reddit called We1etu1n, has posted photos of a Nintendo Switch gaming machine running on Windows XP, causing many people to be amazed and excited. Although the version of Windows XP used to install is just a version that runs emulator via L4T Linux and QEMU, We1etu1n can still play 3D Pinball at maximum speed.
Regarding the method of installing Windows XP on the Nintendo Switch, We1etu1n said he installed QEMU to set up 10 GB of hard disk space and then installed Win XP on QEMU like a virtual machine. In addition, he uses the Cinnamon DE combination to use the Nintendo Switch as a desktop.
We1etu1n takes 6 hours to complete the entire installation process.
Besides smartphone devices, Nintendo Switch has also become a new challenge for test programmers to install Windows operating systems.
