Sometime last year i was constantly having issues with my pc which was forcing me to just reinstall windows using my normal product key. The problem is it’s windows 8.1. Nobody likes it and the plan is to upgrade to 10 using the media gen tool from Microsoft. The issue came about when apparently windows was being annoying and saying i used the key too many times. I wanted windows 10 now because i’m impatient and want to get my pc up and running again without windows 8 in my life. So i used a KMS service and got it up running up until now. I noticed my taskbar refreshing occasionally and it annoyed me. So i thought it was malware. It was not. I attempted to use the product key on windows 10 and surprisingly. it worked. I cleaned up the kms stuff however the refreshing continued. I noticed it was an Event in event viewer «Security-SPP Error 16385». So this was the thing the kms service left behind. Sadly, Security Protection cannot be disabled on startup. And even if i did it would just create more errors. I would like to know how to fix this/revert it back to a normal pc. I shouldn’t have to give any permissions in the folder directory as the kms service is gone. I think the kms server didn’t uninstall correctly or something. I will have to do this manually but i don’t know where to start. I tried going into cm to see if there was anything i could do but nothing was in the SoftwareProtectionPlatform. I don’t think reinstalling windows is and option for me because i don’t want to go through this again.

Microsoft Edge TLS Security
After trying everything (not a lot of steps) listed in the Microsoft Edge support site, I did a wider search and found this very simple youtube video that fixed it immediately:
For those who prefer not to click links the steps are simple:
1. Click in the Cortana search bar next to the Win 10 Start button
2. Type internet options
3. Select internet options (control panel) from the list
4. Click on the advanced tab
5. Scroll down to the security section
6. Make sure the following are all clicked:
Use SSL 3.0
Use TLS 1.0
Use TLS 1.1
Use TLS 1.27. Click apply
8. Refresh the page that was giving the error and it should now connect.
Hope this helps, it was a 30 second fix after hours of pounding my head against the error with the Support site suggestions.

You do need access to the «install.wim» file on a Windows 8 CD, or another source.
MS seem to have abandoned CAB files in favour of this, which I didn’t know not having used anything later than XP!
This compressed file seems to contain the Windows system files.
It can be opened with 7-Zip, at least that’s what I used, just Google for it, it’s free.
Note that you will need version 9.30 of 7-Zip though, which is an Alpha version, but seems OK.
I couldn’t open the .wim file with the current release version, 9.20.
There were a couple of error messages when I opened the file in 7-zip, but it all seemed to still work OK.
Open the Windows 8 Task Scheduler, and identify the faulty tasks from the error messages.
Make a note of their names.
Look in the Windows\System32\tasks folders on your machine and find and delete the files that correspond to the faulty tasks, whichever sub-folder they are in.
Make a note of the names and which folder each one was in, to make sure you put the replacements in the right folder!
Then reboot and go back to Task Scheduler. There should now be no error messages.
Go to Windows\System32\tasks folder in the install.wim file using 7-Zip, and browse for the task files you want to replace.
Use 7-Zip to copy them to your desktop.
Now you need to replace the files with the good ones.
The vital thing to do is that you must put an «.xml» extension on the new files, or Task Scheduler won’t import them!
The extracted versions on your desktop won’t have any file extensions at all, so you’ll need to add them.
Once you’ve done that, go back to Task Scheduler, and look for the folder(s) in the tasks library where you want the files to go.
When you have the folder open, right click and select «import».
Import the appropriate file from your desktop.
Its parameters window should open, and just click OK.
It should appear in the list, but the entry will look very sparse.
This should come good when you re-boot.
I did mine one at a time for safety, re-booting each time I added one.
Fortunately I only had four to do!
Once you’ve done that, the entries should be complete again, and no error messages!

My solution:
Give network service account full NTFS permissions to:
C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
Then run these commands:
net stop sppsvc
net start sppsvc
If that does not work, try the task delete and XML import process listed in the Microsoft forum link below.

Hi,
I am having a strange problem on Windows 8 as of late. Just in the middle of work the mouse pointer freezes in its tracks and there is nothing doing, but to restart. And then all goes on well as if nothing’ happened. Today, I had the same problem, but this time the the mouse seems to revive after a minute so and after a while it again freezes up.
I looked it up in the Event Manager and find a constant error which seems to have been going on for sometime. The error is always Event ID: 16385

The mouse battery is fully charged and the drivers are are the latest (according to Microsoft) and the manufacturer says this is only version, therefore neither of these can be the problem.
Any ideas how to fix the Event Error and the mouse problem.

The fellow is explaining about removing the Task etc. and there is no context option to «import files» into the SoftwareProtectionPlatform directory and second problem is how do you save a file in «notepad» with a «file» extension.
So, the first step was to own the file to the Registered User. It did not accept the Administrator (strange!).and did not have to delete or remove the Task from the Task Scheduler.
Next, I opened the same file and copied the xml content from Windows 8.1 and compared it to the original (faulty) file.
Finally, pasted the contents to the SvcRestartTaskLogon There was only one parameter that was…

@ ussnorway: Yes, I have the files, but there is no option to do anything with them I am on a desktop — Windows 8. At the most I can delete or rename.

Sometimes it’s the mouse, if you have access to another one try it and see if the same thing happens.
I’ve had this happen a number of times over the years and a new mouse usually fixed it, but it would be good to figure if that’s the problem before making the investment.
I’m not sure that the error, Event ID: 16385 would effect the mouse, but here’s a post about the event error that may have some relevant information in it.

1. Sorry yes, the error is a generic access denied… there are a couple of different ways to recreate it, with out-dated registry cleaners being highest on my list.
2. Try a new mouse by all means but then a reinstall of windows may be required… would be my next step.

As for the mouse (or the Set along with the Keyboard) is not that old (since Feb. 2014) and the store (just round the corner) we bought it from is willing to take it back and replace it with a new one (my office also buys many things from them).
Bizarrely enough, hell’s bells, no more mouse errors and that beats me. It has really nothing to do with the mouse.I am skeptic it may just be a fluke and will pop up again one of these days.
There were a few malware insurgents which MBAM removed , but these were only a few days old.

I am running windows 8.1.
I have been looking for a solution for my problem and it seems to be unique.
I have seen a lot of problems with Security-SPP errors but they usually don’t allow the user to open the Task Scheduler. I do not encounter this problem and I CAN open the Task Scheduler.
The error is showing up every 30 seconds and is filling up my event viewer (which I like to look at in order to keep my computer in good health). This flood of errors pertaining to the same thing is making it impossible to look back at any errors my computer had previously and is drowning out any other errors my computer might be experiencing.
When I go to Event Properties for the Security-SPP error I’m getting the following information is presented:
«Failed to schedule Software Protection service for re-start at 2115-10-20T14:37:48Z. Error Code: 0x80070002.»

Then some sensitive information regarding the name of my computer and etc.
I am not looking to factory reset my computer, I have way to many programs that would take days to reinstall and go through the authentication process.
One thing I would like to note is that I just took a look around to try and find the following path:
C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsft\Windows\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
This is what people have reported making changes to. However that path does not exist on my computer. I don’t know if I would have to be in Admin mode or something to see it but I’m pretty sure I would be able to see it. I did some looking around after that and found a bunch of .exe and .dll files just sitting in my System32 folder.
To boot, since I’ve been getting these errors my computer’s performance has been getting progressively worse. The #1 thing I’ve noticed is that it takes a considerable amount of time before I can actually log in to my computer. It constantly sits in the «Please Wait. » screen whenever I try to type in my password once the computer has booted. (This started happening about a week ago)
It would be amazing if someone might be able to give me some insight. I treat this machine like a baby and it is the only thing I have for university. Up until now (about a year and a bit) it’s been working like new. Now it’s really starting to get bogged down and I don’t know why. I’ve made no changes to it.
I hope someone can help me out! I really want to get to the bottom of this.

I I have been having a lot of issues with Windows 10. So I have stepped back from addressing each of those issue and target the Event Viewer Errors to try to correct my issues with Windows 10. I have searched for a fix for this issue and most of the results come back to «Failed to schedule Software Protection service for restart»
My Task Scheduler service is running.
NETWORK SERVICE account has Read permissions for that folder
I have restarted Restart the Software Protection service
I am still getting this error in my Event Viewer.
How can I correct this issue?
We regret for the inconvenience. Let me assist you to resolve the issue.
Before we proceed, let us know a few more details on the below questions.
What is the edition of Windows 10 installed in your computer?
Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue? Also, is it an abrupt issue?
Do have any System Restore point set in Windows prior to the issue?
Did you check if the same issue occurs when you log in to Windows using a different Local Administrator user account?
As an initial recommendation, I suggest you to b oot the computer in safe mode with networking, and check if the issue still persist. This is a diagnostic step towards identifying and isolating the possible cause/s of the issue.
Safe Mode With Networking:
Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you’re using.
Once this is done, reboot the computer in normal mode and check.
If the issue does not occur in Safe mode, try to place the computer in a Clean Boot state and check if there are any third party application/software to be causing the issue.
A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts.
Disclaimer: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.
Now, follow the below methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.
Method 1
This issue may happen due to system file corruption. I suggest you to run System file checker. System File checker (SFC) scan is done to check if there are any corrupted system files that could be causing this issue. Kindly follow the below given steps:
In Command prompt type sfc /scannow and press enter.
Restart the computer.
Method 2
If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state or were irrecoverable, then I suggest you to try the following steps to deploy the DISM command lines:
Press Windows key + X.
Click command prompt (Run as administrator).
In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press Enter key after each command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Important: When you run this command, DISM uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required to fix corruptions.
To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.

Приветствую. Мы пользуемся многими программами, часть из которых — платные. Однако не все хотят платить и предпочитают использовать уже активированные версии, которые могут содержать не только вирусы, но и вызвать ошибки в журнале Windows.
Microsoft-Windows-Security-SPP — что это такое?
Ошибка, которая возникает при проблемах лицензирования ПО.
У некоторых пользователей при этом еще подвисает система.
Может появляться из-за использования взломанного софта. Например часто устанавливают взломанный Офис, при этом могут блокироваться некоторые защитные механизмы Windows, из-за чего собственно и может быть ошибка. Однако ошибка сама некритичная.
Взломанный софт при установке может останавливать службу SPPSVC, полное название которой — Служба платформы защиты программного обеспечения Майкрософт. Разумеется из-за этого могут быть ошибки как в журнале Windows, так и в ее работе.
Есть разные коды ошибки, например 8198. При этом в описании может упоминаться название slui.exe, а это процесс имеет отношение к активации Windows (возможно также и к софту Microsoft). Возможно вы недавно ставили взломанный софт, репак какой-то. Попробуйте удалить, возможно ошибка прекратит появляться. Чтобы удалить — используйте штатные возможности Windows:
На форуме Microsoft читал что сообщения Security-SPP могут быть также из-за использования всяких чистилок, оптимизаторов системы, удаляторов типа Revo Uninstaller. Поэтому если у вас есть что-то подобное — то возможно стоит удалить и проверить.
Способ #3.
Не уверен что поможет, но не повредит точно. По крайней мере это рекомендуют сделать на форуме Microsoft — проверить систему командой sfc /scannow, которая восстанавливает поврежденные и отсутствующие системные файлы. Запустите командную строку от администратора (выше писал как), далее вставляете команду:
Если у вас SSD, то проверка будет намного быстрее, чем на жестком диске.
