Windows Precision Touchpad Implementation for Apple MacBook family/Magic Trackpad 2
This project implements Windows Precision Touchpad Protocol for Apple MacBook family/Magic Trackpad 2 on Windows 10. Both USB (traditional and T2), SPI and Bluetooth trackpads are supported.

Official Driver?
Bootcamp 6.1.5 offers official driver for T2-based model and Magic Trackpad 2. You can also consider using the official driver if you have such Mac. If you have an older model (e.g. MacBooks before 2018/2019), this is the only implementation for these models (yet).

Converged Installation Guide
IMPORTANT: Given changes in Microsoft driver code signing policy, and the compliance need of EV certificate, CI auto builds beyond 2021/01/06 04:00AM EST will not be automatically signed with normal code signing certificate. These builds are still supposed via TestSigning, but not recommended for normal users. Proper WHQL and EV dual-signed packages will be released manually, which can be downloaded from the release page.
- Make sure you uninstalled
Trackpad++completely if you have previously does so - Go to the release tab in Github and download the newest version for your architecture
- Right click
AmtPtpDevice.infand install it - If you have a Magic Trackpad 2 and want to use it in Bluetooth mode: manaully pair it in PC Settings.
Note: it is unnecessary to enable test signing, or install the certificate manually. Doing so may cause problems in installation. See this issue for detailed explanation.

Installation with Chocolatey
The drivers are available as a Chocolatey package. To install using Chocolatey run:

For developers
- SPI/T2 version is kernel-mode driver, using KMDF Framework v1.23. Bluetooth driver uses KMDF Framework 1.15. Windows 10 Driver Development Kit Version 2004 or higher is required for development and testing.
- USB version is a user-mode driver, using UMDF Framework v2.15. Windows 10 Driver Development Kit Version 2004 or higher is required for development and testing.
ReleaseSignedconfiguration is reserved for production build only, and it will be rendered as unsigned if you attempt to build using that configuration. (Historically it’s signed, but due to EV certificate’s requirements, the process has changed.)

There is a bring-up issue for certain MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. I am looking into it. If you have such device with Windows installed, please contact me so I can look into the issue remotely (as I don’t have many devices).

People familiar with me know that I don’t use Apple MacBook (so development work of this driver occurs on a Surface Pro 4). People probably think it doesn’t make sense that I started this project. The motivation behind this project origin from complaints from my girlfriend. Hearing about frequent complains about Dell XPS 13’s touchpad (though it passed Precision Touchpad certification), I decided to start this project, so by the time she switches to MacBook Pro, she will have excellent touchpad experience out-of-box, even on Windows. This driver is made for you, but also for everyone.

There are a bunch of trackpads available for Windows. But many still go with the Apple Magic Trackpad, which has multi-touch gesture support, a long-lasting battery life, haptic feedback, and more. Out of all, one of its most important features is that it works with Windows.

Can You Use Magic Trackpad & Its Gestures on Windows 11?
Yes, Magic Trackpad works on Windows 11. You only need to pair the Magic Trackpad to your Windows 11 PC via Bluetooth. After doing so, you’ll be able to use it for pointing or a few other purposes. But to get multi-touch support and access to all gestures, you’ve to install some important drivers on your Windows 11 PC, which we’ll explain later in this guide.
Set Up Magic Trackpad on Your Windows 11 PC
To use Magic Trackpad on your Windows 11 PC, you’ve to first pair it with it via Bluetooth. You can check the below steps to know how to set up Magic Trackpad on your Windows 11 PC:
1. Turn on the Magic Trackpad using the switch present on the back edge of it. Once it’s turned on, you’ll see a green LED light.
2. Once done, open the Settings app on your PC and select Bluetooth & devices option from the left.
3. Click the Add device option on the next screen and select the Bluetooth option in the window.
4. Choose Apple’s Magic Trackpad from the listed available devices and wait for it to pair.
That’s it! You’ve now connected your Magic Trackpad with your Windows 11 PC. You can now start using it as a pointing device. To get multi-touch support for Magic Trackpad, you’ve to install some drivers on your PC. To do so, you can check the following section in the guide.
Use Magic Trackpad Gestures on Your Windows 11 PC
There are four different workarounds to get full multi-touch support for Apple Magic Trackpad on your Windows 11 PC. Here in this section, we’ve briefly explained all four workarounds below. You can use any mentioned workaround that seems convenient to you.
1. With Mac Precision Touchpad
Mac Precision Touchpad is simply an open-source and free driver that adds support for Magic Trackpad on your Windows 11 PC. So if you want to get the multi-touch support for the Magic Trackpad for free, you can try this method by following the below-listed steps:
1. Click here to download the Mac Precision Touchpad driver’s zip file on your Windows 11 PC.
2. Click Save in the Save As window to download the Mac Precision Touchpad driver on your PC.
3. Once the file is downloaded, open the Download folder of the File Explorer utility and select it.
4. Select the Extract All… option from the right-click menu and click Browse… in the next window.
5. In the File Explorer window, move to the path where you would like to extract the zip file.
6. After selecting the location, click the Extract button to start the extraction process right now.
7. Once done, open Device Manager on your Windows 11 PC and click on Action in the top menu.
8. Select Add drivers from the menu and go to the path where you saved the extracted files.
9. Select the driver file, click OK, and then check the Include subfolders box to install the drivers.
10. In the end, click the Next button and wait for the drivers to install on your Windows 11 PC.
If you can’t install Mac Precision Touchpad drivers using the above method, follow the below steps:
1. Open the Drivers-amd64-ReleaseMSSigned.zip file and proceed to the drivers folder.
2. Move to the amd64 folder from the drivers folder, and search for the AmtPtpDevice.inf file.
3. Right-click on the AmtPtpDevice.inf file and choose the Install option from the context menu.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to manually install the drivers on your Windows 11 PC.
After installing the Mac Precision Touchpad drivers, you must be able to enjoy all gestures on it.
2. With Command Prompt
You can also install the Mac Precision Touchpad drivers on your Windows 11 PC using Command Prompt. You only need to run a few commands, and that’s it! We’ve mentioned the complete process of installing Mac Precision Touchpad drivers using CMD below:
1. Download the Mac Precision Touchpad Driver’s zip file on your Windows 11 PC by clicking here.
2. Open Windows Search Box, type CMD in it and select Run as administrator from the search.
3. Once Command Prompt is opened, copy-paste the below command into it and press Enter:
RUNDLL32.EXE SETUPAPI.DLL,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 path-to-inf\infname.infNote: Make sure to replace “path-to-inf\infname.inf” in the command with the path of AmtPtpDevice where it’s stored on your computer. For instance, it should look something like this:
RUNDLL32.EXE SETUPAPI.DLL,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132/ C:\Users\Harsh\Downloads\Drivers-amd64-ReleaseMSSigned.zip\drivers\amd64/AmtPtpDevice.inf4. Wait for the drivers to install. Once done, take full advantage of Magic Trackpad on your Windows 11 PC.
3. Using Boot Camp
Another possible way to get access to all Magic Trackpad gestures on your Windows 11 PC is using Boot Camp. Boot Camp is a free software by Apple that includes drivers for most Apple Magic lineup devices, including Apple Magic Trackpad. You can follow the below-mentioned steps to use all possible gestures on your Windows 11 PC using Boot Camp:
1. Click here to download the Download Boot Camp Support Software on your Windows PC.
2. Click the Save button in the Save As window to download the installation file on your PC.
3. Once it’s downloaded, click on it, and extract the zip file anywhere you want on your PC.
4. Open the extracted folder on your Windows 11 PC, and open the BootCamp folder in it.
5. Open the Drivers folder, then open the Apple folder, and then look for the below-listed .exe file:
AppleWirelessTrackpad64.exe
6. Once done, click the download file and the Yes button in the UAC prompt to go ahead.
7. Select the I accept the agreement radio button and click the Next > button to proceed.
8. Once done, follow the on-screen prompts to install the Magic Trackpad drivers on your PC.
9. Lastly, do the same with the below .exe file in the Apple folder to get support for multi-touch gestures: AppleMultiTouchTrackPadInstaller64.exe
That’s it! You should now be able to use all possible gestures on your Magic Trackpad on Windows 11.
4. With Magic Utilities
Magic Utilities is a third-party software that lets you use Magic Trackpad and other Apple Magic devices on your Windows PC, as it comes with native support for all Apple Magic series devices. It comes with Bluetooth support for almost all Apple devices, inducing Magic Trackpad.
Other than letting you use Magic Trackpad on your Windows 11 PC, it also allows you to customize your Magic Trackpad as per your preferences. For instance, it lets you enable/disable 1 Finger Gestures, 2 Finger Gestures, and 3 Finger Gestures for your trackpad.
You can also configure scroll and swipe sensitivity for Magic Trackpad within the Magic Utilities app. Not only this, but you can also enable features like silent clicking, smooth scrolling, and more. Lastly, it also notifies you when the battery goes below a particular level.
However, Magic Utilities is a premium utility, which costs $16.99/year for a user. So if you’ve some money to put in these utilities, you can get this for your Windows 11 PC or laptop. Also, if you want to try it first, you can sign up for its 28 days trial to learn about it.
Customize Mac Precision Touchpad on Windows 11
Once you’ve paired your Magic Trackpad to your Windows 11 PC and installed all important drivers, it’s now time to customize its gestures and other interactions. You can easily do so in the Settings app of your Windows 11 PC. Follow the below steps to learn to do so:
1. Press the Windows, and I keys together on your keyboard to open the Settings app on your PC.
2. Select the Bluetooth & devices option from the left and then click the Touchpad option.
3. Ensure the Touchpad toggle is enabled. Once assured, customize the options in the Gestures & interactions section. You can modify the Magic Trackpad cursor speed, taps, and more.
4. Click on the Advanced gestures option in the Related settings section for more options.
5. On the next screen, you can customize the three and four-finger gestures per your needs.

Windows has a bunch of trackpads you can use that get the job done nicely. If you have an Apple Magic Trackpad or use both Mac and Windows, it is possible to use the Apple Magic Trackpad on your PC.
It takes a little configuration to get the trackpad working, but where there is a will, there is a way.
In fact, there are three ways that I know of because a graphic designer friend of mine has gotten the Apple Magic Trackpad to work on her PC and tried out different methods.
I checked how she got her Apple Magic Trackpad working on her Windows 10 desktop and she walked me through it. She used Boot Camp but said the other two methods work too.
You will need an Apple Magic Trackpad or Apple Magic Trackpad 2, a Bluetooth dongle or enabled PC and a piece of software.
Exactly what software depends on how you want to do this so I’ll include links to all of them. The first method uses an app that’s available through GitHub, the second method uses Boot Camp and the third uses a third-party utility called Magic Utilities.
The Mac Precision Touchpad method
You can use the Apple Magic Trackpad on your PC using software that’s up on GitHub called Mac Precision Touchpad.
The process of getting your Trackpad working on your PC is very straightforward. Here are the instructions for installing Mac Precision Touchpad on your PC:
- Navigate to this page and download the latest version of the file.
- Extract the file somewhere on your PC.
- Right-click AmtPtpDevice.cer and select Install.
- Open the AmtPtpDevice folder in the download.
- Right-click AmtPtpDevice.inf and select Install.
Once you have installed the software, follow the instructions here in the README for Precision Touchpad. Following this process should get your Touchpad working on your PC.
The Apple Boot Camp method for getting an Apple Magic TouchPad to work on a Windows PC
Apple Boot Camp is a software package that allows you to use Windows 10 within the macOS.
Apparently, you can also use it to enable some Apple hardware to work on your Windows PC. This is how my friend got her Apple Magic Trackpad working on her Windows 10 desktop.
You will need a copy of the Apple Boot Camp software from Apple. If you use 32-bit Windows, use this file. If you use 64-bit Windows, use this one. Support for Boot Camp is here and includes a section on getting Mac hardware to run within Windows.
Here’s are the instructions for implementing the Apple Bootcamp method:
- Download the correct version of Boot Camp for your PC.
- Download the Apple Magic Trackpad Control Panel from here.
- Install both onto your PC and connect the Trackpad if you haven’t already.
- Your Apple Magic Trackpad should now work.
Apparently, without the control panel, the trackpad doesn’t include all gestures which many Mac users are so used to. Adding this last piece of software increases compatibility and allows you to use many more gestures and have more control over how the Apple Magic Trackpad works.
It is a little backward though. As mentioned, Boot Camp is predominantly for using Windows 10 within Mac OS but it does work this way.
The Magic Utilities method
Magic Utilities is a third party software vendor that develops apps that help Windows and Mac play nicely together. It includes Bluetooth support for Apple devices and Boot Camp compatibility so works fine with the Apple Magic Trackpad. It does cost money, currently $5.99 a year for a single user but has a free trial.
Here’s the process of using the Magic Utilities application to get your Apple Trackpad working on your Windows PC:
- Download the Magic Utilities app from here.
- Install it onto your PC and allow it access to devices and anything else it requires.
- Use your Apple Magic Trackpad.
While this is a premium product, the software does make it easy to use the Apple Magic Trackpad on your PC. Install the software, allow it access to Bluetooth and anything else it asks for and it finds the trackpad and works right away. I only got to see this in action already installed but the configuration options are generous alone and I was assured installation and configuration was as easy as described.
There are apparently compromises if you use the Apple Magic Trackpad on your PC. Not all gestures are supported, sometimes the driver freezes or hesitates and sometimes the driver stops altogether. While my friend loves her Apple Magic Trackpad, she also has a different touchpad that is native to Windows and works just as well as her Apple version. It was less than half the price too!

You can use Apple Magic Trackpad with Control Panel on Windows PC with Boot Camp. It’s a small utility that lets you use this amazing device with your Windows PC.
If you are running Windows 11/10, it is now easy to set up and use Magic Trackpad on Windows 11. All you need to do is pair the Magic Trackpad to your Windows 11 PC via Bluetooth.
- Turn on the Magic Trackpad
- Open Windows 11 Settings > Bluetooth & devices
- Click Add device and select the Bluetooth option
- Choose Apple Magic Trackpad and wait for it to pair.
That’s all you need to do.
To use all of Magic Trackpad gestures on Your Windows 11/10 PC, you can install the open-source drivers available on Github.com.
After downloading it, extract its contents to a folder location of your choice, then open Device Manager > Action > Add drivers and browse to the folder location of the driver.
Once done, you can open Windows 11 Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad and customize the Gestures.
You are all set to use Apple Magic Trackpad on Windows 11!
If you are using Windows 8/7, you need to take these steps:
- Download the update (Drivers) for 32-bit Windows operating systems or 64-bit Windows operating systems.
- The files are enclosed in a .zip file. Double-click BootCamp_3.2_32-bit.exe for 32-bit Windows systems or BootCamp_3.2_64-bit.exe for 64-bit Windows systems.
- A permissions dialog appears, then click Yes.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
The Multi-Touch trackpad supports different gestures depending on the operating system you use. Refer the chart given below in regard to learning about the differences.
Once you have Apple Magic Trackpad on your Windows PC, the default Mouse properties are useless now. The trackpad gestures or speed cannot be customized in Windows, and thus here the need arises for the Magic Trackpad Control Panel.
Magic Trackpad Control Panel is a wonderful tool that allows you to set the tracking speed, double-click speed, and scrolling speed of the Trackpad, and can be used to change both one-finger and two-finger gestures. Download the Apple Magic Trackpad Control Panel application and install it. It is not officially developed by Apple and is in its beta version but works like a charm in Windows.
Now extract the downloaded zip folder and run the padset-0.3.exe file (It will automatically initiate and installs, as it doesn’t have any UI) and then run Trackpad Control Panel.exe file and let it installs successfully.
After successful installation, a small icon in the Taskbar notification area will appear. Right-click on the icon and select Show Customize option to view Magic Trackpad Control Panel settings.
If you choose the One Finger Gestures, then you will find options to enable/disable Tap to Click, Dragging, Drag Lock, and Secondary Click. For the secondary click, you can choose the Bottom Right Corner or Bottom Left Corner position.
In case you choose Two Finger Gestures, you will find options to enable/disable Scroll and Secondary Tab.

Apple Keyboard проводная
Подключение проводной клавиатуры от Apple – самый простой и безболезненный вариант использования контроллеров от Apple на Windows-машинах. Без лишней подготовки смело вставляйте ее в USB-порт и после автоматической установки драйверов она готова к бою.
Что работает нативно. Сразу после подключения в вашем распоряжении полностью рабочая буквенно-цифровая часть клавиатуры с привычной для Windows разметкой, но отличной от разметки самой клавиатуры.
Что не работает, но требует дополнительной настройки. Подключение по USB и установка стандартных драйверов Windows не решат проблемы с работой функциональных клавиш. Регулировать уровень громкости и переключать воспроизводимые композиции можно лишь при установке дополнительных драйверов, о которых я расскажу немного ниже. Разумеется, «странные иконки» на клавишах F3 и F4 – удел работающих с Mac.
Apple Keyboard беспроводная
Первая и главная проблема PC на базе Windows, как правило, закономерное отсутствие встроенного Bluetooth-адаптера. Если наличие такового в вашем ПК не предусмотрено – смело отправляйтесь в ближайший магазин и приготовьтесь расстаться с небольшой суммой в районе 10-20 долларов.
Теоретически, для подключения периферии Apple подойдет любой Bluetooth-адаптер, но может и потребоваться подбор конкретной модели.
Список совместимых в большинстве случаев Bluetooth-адаптеров (идеальные компаньоны для знакомых с Hackintosh):
Ситуация по части работоспособности полностью аналогична таковой и при подключении проводной USB-клавиатуры Apple. Для полного функционирования всех клавиш потребуется установка дополнительных драйверов.
Apple Magic Mouse
После анонса обновленной мыши Magic Mouse, манипулятор от Apple был назван одним из самых удивительных в среде компьютерной периферии. Несмотря на то, что продукт является полностью совместимым в первую очередь с компьютерами Apple, использовать мышь владельцам PC ничто не помешает.
Что работает нативно. В случае удачного сопряжения компьютерная мышь Magic Mouse определится Windows и пользователь получит возможность работы с ней как и с традиционной мышкой, но с одной клавишей. Перемещение курсора и одинарный тап тоже попадут в ваше распоряжение.
Что не работает сразу, но требует дополнительной настройки. Увы, сопряжение с Bluetooth-адаптером и установка штатных драйверов Windows, не позволит вам использовать Magic Mouse на полную. Для поддержки жестов, скроллинга и кликов потребуется установка дополнительного драйвера.
Apple Magic Trackpad

Тапание, перетягивание, имитация левой/правой клавиш мыши, прокрутка (горизонтальная и вертикальная), имитация правой кнопки нажатиям двумя пальцами. Полный список поддерживаемых жестов в среде Windows вы можете увидеть на соответствующей странице поддержки Apple. Увы, он значительно урезан по сравнению с Mac и вылечить это невозможно.
Если ни один из вышеописанных пунктов вас не пугает и вы по-прежнему готовы к приобретению манипуляторов от Apple, приготовьтесь к установке дополнительных драйверов и небольшой головной боли.
Как их подружить: его величество, Bootcamp
Как видно из описания всех четырех продуктов, они дружелюбны с Windows-машинами весьма относительно. Но помирить продукты конкурентных платформ можно с помощью установки дополнительного пакета драйверов Bootcamp. Именно установка дополнительных заплаток значительно расширит функциональность клавиатуры, мыши или трекпада. Увы, для поддержки всех заявленных жестов и функциональных клавиш без исключения есть единственный выход – переход в ряды маководов.
Установка Bootcamp
По сути, Bootcamp – это набор программного обеспечения для Windows, при условии запуска операционной системы на Mac. Но никто не запрещал установить требуемые драйвера на полностью Mac-независимой машине.
Одним из самых надежных вариантов установки Bootcamp на Windows-совместимых ПК является последовательная установка пакет, начиная с версии Bootcamp 3.0. Увы, найти его можно лишь в интернет-архивах сайтов и на торрент-трекерах (с официального сайта поддержки Apple удалила этот пакет).
Примечание 1: Несмотря на полный переход продукции Apple на 64-разрядную ОС, самая простая установка драйверов из пакета Bootcamp предусмотрена при использовании 32-битной версии Windows (в процессе попытки установить Bootcamp 3.0 на Windows X64 вы можете столкнуться с конфликтом совместимости). Решить проблему можно с помощью последовательной установки драйверов из смонтированного образа, а также воспользовавшись примечанием 2.

1. Скачайте Bootcamp 3.0 (пользуйтесь поиском, либо предложенной ссылкой).
2. Смонтируйте образ диска и запустите файл Setup.
3. Дождавшись окончания установки, перезагрузите компьютер.
4. Поверх установленного Bootcamp 3.0 установите версию 3.1 (32-bit, 64-bit).
5. После окончания установки вновь перезагрузите компьютер.
6. Заключительный этап обновления Bootcamp – накатка версии 3.2. Загрузите и установите (32-bit, 64-bit).
7. Перезагрузите компьютер.
Примечание 2: установка может проводиться и без этапов 1-5, но их соблюдение гарантирует более стабильный результат работы периферийных устройств Apple. Для пропуска этапов 1-5 установите драйвер AppleWT, AppleMultiTP.
После окончания установки, USB-клавиатура Apple получит поддержку функциональных клавиш (громкость, яркость (при использовании ноутбука), переключение композиций, открытие крышки DVD-привода – закрывать не умеет в силу аппаратных особенностей дисковода).
Для подключения беспроводных Apple Wireless Keyboard, Magic Mouse и Magic Trackpad потребуется сопряжение по Bluetooth и дополнительная установка драйверов в том случае, если после вышеперечисленных действий «чуда так и не произошло».

1. Откройте настройки Bluetooth и выберите пункт Добавить устройство.
2. Включите Magic Trackpad, Magic Mouse или Apple Wireless Keyboard.
3. Система тут же обнаружит соответствующее устройство. Добавьте его.
4. Настройка завершена.
Magic Tools
Отдельного внимания заслуживает утилита, способствующая максимизации доступных функций для пользователей Windows, использующих Magic Trackpad или Magic Mouse. Называется она Trackpadmagic. Загрузив ее с официального сайта и установив на Windows, вы получите отдельную панель управления для Magic Mouse или Apple Magic Trackpad (в зависимости от используемого аксессуара). По заверению разработчика, она не требует установки Bootcamp, но в процессе установке не всегда подхватывает необходимые драйвера и все зависит исключительно от конкретного ПК.
Увы, утилита представлена триал-версией, работающей на протяжение 28 дней. Для получения лицензии потребуется связаться с разработчиками и за символическую плату получить полный ключ доступа.
Подводя итоги
В плане использования манипуляторов Apple для управления компьютерами под управлением Windows, самым целесообразным вариантом является Apple Keyboard (проводная и беспроводная версии). Что же касается работы с Magic Mouse и Magic Trackpad, то вы действительно получите стабильную работу, но весь функционал, заложенный компанией, доступен так и не будет. Альтернативным продуктом Magic Trackpad для пользователей Windows может стать решение от Logitech, а количество представленных беспроводных мышей уж точно сможет удовлетворить любые вкусы.
Но, если сильно хочется почувствовать себя укротителем Apple, описанное выше решение поможет в этом.
