A complete guide on how to install language packs in LibreOffice in Windows, Linux and macOS.
Language packs in LibreOffice are add-ons that provide translations for the user interface, spell checker, and help files. These packs allow users to work in their native language, making the software more accessible and user-friendly.
Usually, when you install LibreOffice, it installs the language pack of your system locale. For example, if your Windows/Linux/macOS is in English (USA), then the “en-us” language packs will be installed by default.
However, if you want additional language packs, you need to install them manually. Here’s how.
The following instructions are different for Windows, Linux and macOS. Please note that when you install the language packs, the corresponding fonts also will be installed.
Verify the currently installed language packs
First, it’s important that you verify the currently installed language pack in your LibreOffice or OpenOffice installation. To do that, open LibreOffice/OpenOffice and go to Tools > Options > Language Settings > Languages
. You can see the available language packs under the “user interface” dropdown.
For example, only the “English (USA)” language pack is installed in the image below.
Install language packs in LibreOffice
Windows
If you are using LibreOffice in Windows, you need to modify the installation to install the additional language packs.
- Open Settings in Windows 10 or Windows 11 from start menu.
- Search for “add remove programs” or go to “Apps” in Windows 11.
- Look for LibreOffice and click on the “three dot“.
- Select modify.
- In the installation wizard, click Next and then select Modify.
- Under Language pack option, choose the Language you want to install. Click on the small “x” icon.
- Select “this feature will be installed in local hard drive.”.
- Click Next and complete the installation.
- Restart Windows and launch LibreOffice.
- Go to
Tools > Options > Language Settings > Languages
and you should see the new language installed in LibreOffice.
Linux
In GNU/Linux systems, it’s easier to install language packs since the packages are available in major Linux distribution repositories such as Ubuntu, Linux Mint, or Fedora.
In Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint or “apt” based system, install the language pack using the below command from the terminal window:
sudo apt install <language pack name>
For Fedora, openSUSE and other RPM-based distributions, you can run the following command to install it from the terminal:
sudo dnf install <language pack name>
For example, if I want to install a Bengali language pack, I should use the following command:
sudo dnf install libreoffice-langpack-bn
sudo apt install libreoffice-l10n-bn
If you are using Arch Linux, the language pack package name will be as below format. Get a list from here for Arch Linux.
libreoffice-fresh-<code>
For example, for the Bengali language pack, you should run the following:
sudo pacman -S libreoffice-fresh-bn
A complete list of language codes and package names is in the table below for your reference.

Installing in macOS
For Apple MacBook, which runs macOS, including the M1, and M2 devices, you need to install the separate language pack package from the official website.
Visit this page: Download LibreOffice
Then go to the latest version, go inside the “mac” folder and pick the dmg package. Then install it on your mac.
Install language packs in OpenOffice
If you are using OpenOffice, you need to separately download and install Language packs from apache website (link below).
Download language pack for OpenOffice
In the above link, choose the operating system version (Windows, Ubuntu Linux, Fedora etc.) and select the language. Then click on the “Download language pack”.
For Windows: Run the exe file to install the language pack.
For DEB files (Ubuntu, Linux Mint etc.), run the below command to install:
sudo dpkg -i <language pack>.deb
For RPM files, use the following command:
sudo dnf install <language pack>.rpm
Wrapping up

You are seeing this because the administrator of this website has set up Anubis to protect the server against the scourge of AI companies aggressively scraping websites. This can and does cause downtime for the websites, which makes their resources inaccessible for everyone.
Anubis is a compromise. Anubis uses a Proof-of-Work scheme in the vein of Hashcash, a proposed proof-of-work scheme for reducing email spam. The idea is that at individual scales the additional load is ignorable, but at mass scraper levels it adds up and makes scraping much more expensive.
Ultimately, this is a hack whose real purpose is to give a «good enough» placeholder solution so that more time can be spent on fingerprinting and identifying headless browsers (EG: via how they do font rendering) so that the challenge proof of work page doesn’t need to be presented to users that are much more likely to be legitimate.
Please note that Anubis requires the use of modern JavaScript features that plugins like JShelter will disable. Please disable JShelter or other such plugins for this domain.

LibreOffice suite: update to 7.0.0 release The Office@FreeBSD team is proud to announce long awaited, new major release of LibreOffice suite - 7.0.0! New major branch comes with tons of new changes: switch render from opengl to skia, many templates redesigned from 4:3 to 16:9 format, added support for "ODF 1.3" and "ODF 1.3 Extended" documents format, support native 2013/2016/2019 mode instead of 2007 compatibility mode for DOCX, added a new icon theme, named Sukapura. Full release notes available on the official page (https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/7.0) Of course, conservative users can keep 6.4.x stable version by switch to use all-in-one editors/libreoffice6 port and even with i18n langpack (off by default). It will be kept updated at least till 7.1.0 version will be released. |

FreeBSD Office team is proud to announce LibreOffice 6.4.4, latest stable release Some notes about changes in port options: - GTK2 option is obsolete by upstream - GTK3 option is not more set by default because of unstable yet and have visual glitches - QT5 option is set by default to provide comfy visual style for every user - Change VCL autotetect logic (used if enable, skipto next in row if disabled: -- For KDE/LXQT: kf5, qt5, gtk3_kde5, gtk3, gen -- For GNOME, Unity, XFCE, MATE: gtk3, qt5, gen -- All other DE should follow gnome list One small note -- since upcoming Qt5-5.15 will drop binary support for FreeBSD 11.x due to outdated OpenSSL-1.0 in base, here is no reason to enable QT5 option on FreeBSD <12 by default Thanks for all testers and supporters! Update LibreOffice to 5.0.1. Unfortunately, LibreOffice project completely dropped support for pre-C++11 compilers and libraries since 4.4. Therefore, we cannot easily build it on FeeBSD 9.x any more unless the system was rebuilt with WITH_CLANG_IS_CC and WITH_LIBCPLUSPLUS. If user is unable to upgrade the system for some reason, the old port, i.e., 4.3.7, is still available from devel/libreoffice4 (with no language packs). |
