Frequently Asked Questions

What is ransomware?

Ransomware is malicious software used to extort money from victims via threats to delete data unless payment is made. This type of malware encrypts files on infected computers and holds them hostage until a ransom is paid.

How does virus work?

Once installed, ransomware locks down access to important information such as documents, photos, videos, music, emails, and financial records. Once locked out, the computer becomes useless until the encryption key is unlocked.

Who uses ransomware?

The most recent wave of ransomware infections began in February 2017. However, there have been several waves over the past few years. In fact, some experts believe that we are entering a second wave of ransomware.

Why do people fall prey to ransomware?

In this post, we will discuss an error code 0x80070015, what it is, why it appears, and three solutions each, provided it turned out to be an Update or Store issue. This error was occurring before as a store error and lately, it has turned out to be an update issue preventing Windows updates from ever happening.

Error Code 0x80070015 What It is and How to Fix it

Microsoft releases new updates every second Tuesday of a month. These are widely known as cumulative updates. Apart from this, there come also optional updates, non-security patches, out-of-band updates. For each update that you install on your PC, the system stores tiny information about them.

The Windows Store is an application market introduced by Microsoft in Windows 8 and Windows 2012.  Software developers can publish their applications to this market to be cataloged for a wide range of potential users of their software.  Like many other application stores, publications to the store are monitored and go through a certification and approval process.

Error 0x80070015 can be caused by a few issues.  The Windows Store itself can be corrupt or the login credentials can become corrupt.  This process also depends on the Windows Update service which could be experiencing issues. Press the “Windows Key” and start typing “Task”.  Select “Task Manager” from the list.  It should be high on the list.  Once opened click “More details”.  In the new view, select “Details”.  You can sort by any of the columns but I recommend description.  Identify any Power ISO related processes and right click on them and click “End Process Tree”.

Method 2: Clear Store Cache

Press the “Windows Key” and the “R” key at the same time to get a “Run” prompt.  From there, type “wsreset.exe” which will clear and reset the Windows Store cache.  After running this, it will open a black console window with a Windows Store icon in the upper left hand side.  Once completed, it should open the store for you.

Method 4: Windows Update Troubleshooter

Press the “Windows Key” and start typing “troubleshoot”.  From the list, the top match of “Troubleshooting” / “Control panel” is the option that should be selected.  On the left side click “View all” and click “Windows Update”.  Click “Next” on the Windows Update” troubleshooting window.  Depending on whether you have UAC enabled, it may ask you to “Try troubleshooting as an administrator”.  Please select that option if prompted.  From there, if any issues are found it will indicate the issue and ask you to “Apply this fix”.  Please apply the fix for as many fixes as it is able to.  The last option will be to “Close the troubleshooter” and you may do that at the end.  The tool will indicate which problems it found and was able to fix.
