В них владельцы копий ОС жаловались, что после финального обновления KB4534310 с рабочих столов их компьютеров исчезло оформление. Подобная проблема обычно возникает, когда пользователь устанавливает пиратскую версию системы, и ОС не может подтвердить факт легальной загрузки.
Позже сторонники бесплатного ПО потребовали от Microsoft не закрывать Windows 7, а переделать ее в систему с открытым кодом. Активисты отметили, что от этого шага выиграют и пользователи, и производитель ОС. Официальная техническая поддержка Windows 7 была прекращена 14 января. Релиз популярной системы состоялся в июле 2009 года.
