I know. It’s not that bad. You’re getting used to it. It is eerily familiar, yet right when you start to feel comfortable, you find yourself in a foreign place wondering just how the hell you got there. It’s okay. You got this.
Of course I’m talking about Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge (and Internet Explorer 11).
It wasn’t too long ago that you were right at home with trusty old Windows 7 and, really, just about any iteration of internet explorer you could ever need or want. The Golden Years. Most online legacy apps were able to work just fine while even the hippest of updated third party sites were accommodating. Of course, with the introduction of Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge, Microsoft decided to take a stand. Either adapt, or be left behind.
For many businesses, change is hard. Either it’s out of their control or simply not in the financial cards to update their infrastructure to accommodate Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer 11. So today, I’m going to show you a quick and easy way to use just about any version of Internet Explorer on a PC running Windows 10 OS. It’s called Browser Emulation. The Feature_Browser_Emulation (feature in the registry that can be toggled on or off) can assign default versions of Internet Explorer you’d like to run upon execution. The values are listed below:
For FULL emulation, you’ll want to use the decimal values that allow loading a page in the desired browser regardless of DOCTYPE. Example: A web app needs Internet Explorer 9. The decimal value used should be “9999” as reflected above.
Here’s where the decimal values can be set:
First, open the registry editor. To do this, press WINDOWS key + R key to bring up the RUN box. Second, type REGEDIT and press ENTER.
Drill down into the registry for both 32 bit and 64 bit:
32 bits: [(HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION]
64 bits: [(HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE)\Software\wow6432node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION]
You’ll want to RIGHT-CLICK and create a new DWORD value. Name it “iexplore.exe”. Without the quotation marks, of course :).
Then, you’ll want to modify the DWORD decimal value to any aforementioned decimal value for both 32 bit and 64 bit. Again, for Example: A web app needs Internet Explorer 9. The decimal value used should be “9999” as reflected above:
Once this has been completed, you can close the registry editor and reboot the computer.
After the reboot, Internet Explorer will emulate and function as the selected version.

While Windows 10 includes Internet Explorer 11 by default, you can easily install a different version of IE by using a virtual machine. Can I Downgrade IE in Windows 10?

Способ 1: Активация Internet Explorer 11
Чаще всего браузер Internet Explorer уже предустановлен в Windows 10, и даже если используется Microsoft Edge, а нужного вам обозревателя нигде нет, скорее всего, требуется просто включить соответствующий компонент.
Шаг 1: Включение компонента
Активируется инструмент, который отвечает за классический браузер от Microsoft, с помощью встроенных средств, но при условии, что он есть в системе:
- Вызовите «Панель управления», отыскав средство с помощью строки системного поиска.

Способ 2: Скачивание установочного файла
Если случилось так, что Internet Explorer 11 удален из вашей системы, то его можно отдельно скачать и установить вручную. Несмотря на то что на официальном сайте Microsoft предложено перейти на более современный и стабильный обозреватель Microsoft Edge, там также до сих пор доступно скачивание IE 11.

Суть вопроса в заголовке. Есть корпоративный сайт, который работает только со старым IE. В настройках Edge можно добавить сайт в список тех, что должны открываться в режиме совместимости, но только сроком на 1 месяц. Через месяц нужно повторять процедуру и еще нужно в настройках выбирать «загрузить эту страницу в режиме IE» (или как-то так). Для человека, который в компе не шарит это всё слишком сложно, хотя инструкции я писал. В общем можно ли как-то заставить определённый сайт открываться в режиме совместимости всегда или вообще выпилить edge и оставить IE?

The tech world is full of innovations and cool things. But behind the flashy stages that we see, there are many battles and wars happen. Many are oblivious to the everyday users’ eyes. Before the iPhone vs. Android war, and more or less during the first half of Mac vs. PC war, there’s another big war happens in the tech world: the first browser war.
The winner of this war was clear, because nobody has ever heard of Netscape Navigator anymore, and Internet Explorer has become the default browser for PC users for years. And the latest version of Internet Explorer is version 11 of Windows 10.
Downgrading Internet Explorer 11 to 10
For some reason, there are users who want to downgrade Internet Explorer 11 to Internet Explorer 10. This question has been floating around several Windows forums on the net for sometimes.
So, can you do it? The quick answer to the question is NO.
And the reason is simple, it’s because the only version of Internet Explorer that works under Windows 10 is Internet Explorer 11. Even if you can uninstall Internet Explorer 11 and install Internet Explorer 10, the browser will simply won’t work.
With that in mind, the next question that you need to answer is: what can you do about it?
Use Compatibility Mode
Maybe one of the hardest things about being a web developer is to make sure that the website will look exactly what he/she wants on every browser. To achieve that, web developers have to tweak every web element to be compatible with each popular browser.
Since it’s impossible to satisfy everyone, users should expect irregularities on among websites. Sometimes websites look off — images might not appear, menus might be out of place, and text could be jumbled together. The main culprit is the compatibility problem between Internet Explorer and the site.
One site that is fully compatible with Internet Explorer 10 might not be compatible with Internet Explorer 11. This might be the reason why some people prefer to downgrade their Internet Explorer.
If this is the case, you can fix the problem by adding the site to your Compatibility View list.
Open Internet Explorer, select the Tools button, and then select Compatibility View settings. Under Add this website, enter the URL of the site you want to add to the list and then select Add.
The changes are permanent. Once you turn on Compatibility View, Internet Explorer will automatically show that site in Compatibility View each time you visit. To turn it off, remove the site from the list.
