Download / Installation Procedures
IMPORTANT: Be sure to connect your PC to the Internet while performing the following:
1. Download the file. For the location where the file is saved, check the computer settings.
2. Double-click the downloaded .exe file. It will be decompressed and the Setup screen will be displayed. Follow the instructions to install the software and perform the necessary settings.

If the installation does not start even after the Setup CD-ROM is inserted into your computer’s disc drive:
Start the installation following the procedure below.

Follow the procedures as shown below.
- In Windows 10 or Windows 8.1, select the File Explorer icon on the taskbar on the desktop, and then select This PC from the list on the left.
- In Windows 7, click Start then Computer.

Double-click the CD-ROM icon on the displayed window.
If the contents of the CD-ROM are displayed, double-click MSETUP4.EXE.
If you cannot install ScanGear (scanner driver) from the Setup CD-ROM, download and install the scanner driver from the web page.

If the CD-ROM icon is not displayed, try the following:
- Remove the CD-ROM from your computer, then insert it again.
- Restart your computer.
If the icon is not yet displayed, try different discs and see if they are displayed. If other discs are displayed, there is a problem with the Setup CD-ROM. In this case, contact the service center.

If you are unable to proceed beyond the Scanner Connection screen:
In other cases:
Reinstall ScanGear.
If ScanGear was not installed correctly, uninstall the CanoScan XXX Scanner Driver (where «XXX» is the model name), restart your computer, and then reinstall ScanGear. To uninstall the CanoScan XXX Scanner Driver, start the uninstaller from Control Panel.
To reinstall ScanGear, install it from the Setup CD-ROM or install the scanner driver from the web page.
Note
- If the installer was forced to be terminated due to a Windows error, the system may be in an unstable condition and you may not be able to install ScanGear. Restart your computer before reinstalling.
I’m using windows 10, and I’m trying to install the canoscan lide 400 to my computer. But when it gets to step 3, it goes on forever. Any way to fix this? Thanks.

So we can assist you, we will need to gather some more information. Please write back with answers to the following questions:
- Did you download the drivers from the website or did you run the setup CD?
- If you downloaded from our website, did you download the CanoScan LiDE 400 Full Driver & Software Package or CanoScan LiDE 400 Scanner Driver Ver.1.00
- Have you tried canceling the download and then try the install again?

I tried both the CD and download from the website. I also tried the CanoScan LiDE 400 Scanner Driver Ver.1.00 and no luck. However I tried installing the driver on my laptop which runs on windows 8.1 and it worked fine. My desktop runs on Windows 10 so I’m not sure if it’s an OS issue.

The may be a firewall or security setting on the Windows 10 computer that is not allowing the files to install. I would recommend contacting Microsoft and let them know that your Windows 8.1 had no issues install the scanner driver. They will be able to troubleshoot your Windows 10 computer.

How to Download and Install Canon CanoScan LiDE 400 Printer Driver
