Instruction on how to run the Origin version of Red Alert 2 on Windows 11 with full resolution patch

Downloading your bought copy of RA2+YR from Origin:

  1. Download RA2+YR from within the Origin client.
  2. Download https://bibber.eu/downloads/cnc-ultimate-collection-launchers/
  3. Unzip «cnc-ultimate-collection-launchers.zip»
  4. Run and install «C&C Ultimate Collection Launchers Setup.exe»
  5. Choose RA2+YR in the installer menu.
  6. When it’s done, copy the following folder to another location:

«C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer Red Alert II»

To, for example:
«C:\RA2»

Installing the patches:

In your copy of the above folder, «C:\RA2» in the example, do the follwing:

  1. Download this:
    https://github.com/CnCNet/cnc-ddraw

  1. Extract the zip file into the copied folder from above.
    There should now be a new folder called «Shaders», and some new files in «C:\RA2»:
    cnc-ddraw config.exe
    ddraw.dll
    ddraw.ini

Configuring ddraw:

  1. Run «C:\RA2\cnc-ddraw config.exe»

  2. Go to Display Settings (should be opened by default) and:
    Set Presentation to «Borderless»
    Enable «Maintain aspect ratio»
    Disable «VSync»
    Enable «Adjust mouse sensitivity»
    Enable «Lock cursor to window / screen»

  3. Go to Advanced Settings:
    Set Renderer to «OpenGL»
    Set Shader to «Shaders\interpolation\bilinear.glsl»
    Disable «Limit frame rate»
    Disable «Enable windowboxing / integer scaling»
    Enable «Show window borders in windowed mode»
    Disable «Remember window position and size»

  4. Go to Compability Settings:
    Set «Limit game speed» to 60. i’ll show how to specify it more fine grained later.
    Disable all other (5) settings

  5. Exit «cnc-ddraw config.exe»

  6. Open «ddraw.ini» and:

Find the line «maxgameticks=60», should be on line 85.
Set it to your preferred speed. (I recommend somewhere around 100.)

  1. Save and exit the «ddraw.ini» file.

Configuring resolution:

  1. Open «RA2.INI»
  2. Find the video section and change the defaults to your resolution like this (for 1080p in this example):

ScreenWidth=1920
ScreenHeight=1080

  1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the file «RA2MD.INI»

  2. Do not try to change the resolution from within the game.
    Always change it from these two above configuration files.

Run «C:\RA2\RA2Launcher.exe»
Choose the game, RA2 or YR.
Enjoy.

OPTIONAL: Setting up CNCNet for a revived multiplayer experience:

  1. Download CnCNet5_YR_Installer.exe from here:
    https://cncnet.org/yuris-revenge#download

  1. Make a copy of the «C:\RA2» folder to, for instance, «C:\RA2_CNCNET»

  2. Run «CnCNet5_YR_Installer.exe»

  3. MAKE SURE you choose «C:\RA2_CNCNET» instead of the default:
    «C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer Red Alert II»

  4. MAKE SURE you do not choose «C:\RA2» as well.

  5. It will start automatically. Make sure to press Yes to edit the settings.

  6. Exit the game.

  7. Edit «C:\RA2_CNCNET\ddraw.ini».

  8. On line 79 it should say the same value you chose before, eg:
    maxgameticks=100

  9. Save the file.

Run «»C:\RA2_CNCNET\CnCNetYRLauncher.exe» for the CNCNet multiplayer client.
Enjoy.

OPTIONAL: Removing the Origin version to save HDD space:

  1. Open Origin.
  2. Uninstall RA2.

How to play Red Alert 2 on Windows 10 & 11

Red Alert 2 is now playable on Windows 10 & 11 | Campaign and Multiplayer Online!
 

Step 1: Get Red Alert 2 and Yuri’s Revenge 

You can now buy all of the classic Command & Conquer games digitally from either Steam or the EA App as part of The Ultimate Collection. 

If you own a physical copy of Red Alert 2 (not «The First Decade» version), installing the game from the disc no longer works on Windows 10/11.

If you already own the game via The First Decade or digitally via Steam or the EA App, skip this step.

Step 2: Install the game and apply fixes for Windows 10 & 11

First off, install the game from either The First Decade, Steam or the EA App. Red Alert 2 should be pre-patched, so you won’t need to go and hunt down any of Westwood’s old patch files.

The CnCNet patch is the essential community update for Red Alert 2: Yuri’s Revenge. As well as providing online services for the game, it contains many bug fixes and fixes compatibility with the latest versions of Windows.

Note: Yuri’s Revenge must be installed for Red Alert 2 to work with CnCNet.

Download and install the CnCNet Launcher

Step 3: Play Singleplayer!

To play the Campaign after installing the CnCNet patches, simply launch the game normally through the executable, Steam or the EA App!

Step 4: Play Multiplayer!

Using the CnCNet Launcher, you are now able to battle it out against others Online or play offline skirmish games.

Run the CnCNet Launcher using the Yuri’s Revenge CnCNet Shortcut that the install will have created.

To look for online games, using the CnCNet Launcher click «Play Online».

Known Issues

If you own a physical copy of Red Alert 2, installing the game from the disc no longer works on Windows 10/11; this is because Microsoft has removed the SafeDisc copy protection driver from Windows, which the Red Alert 2 CDs use. 

  • To redeem your copy of Red Alert 2 on Origin, contact EA Support and your serial key to an advisor. That way, they will be able to verify it and redeem the game on your EA App account.

Odd Graphical Glitches and Rendering Issues

  • If you experience any graphical glitches, click on «Options» within the CnCNet Launcher and experiment with the different «Renderer» options.

На новых системах Windows 10, 11, 8, 8.1  можно столкнуться с проблемой запуска Red Alert 2 либо Red Alert 2 месть Юрия, игра не запускается  — либо выдаёт ошибку при запуске, если поставить режим совместимости со старой ОС (через свойства запускаемого ярлыка) это не поможет, проблема связана с графикой, игра делалась на старой графике которая полноценно не поддерживается на новых системах. Чтобы решить данную проблему надо закинуть содержимое архива CNC-DDRAW_1.rar в папку с игрой, скачиваем  данный архив:

Распаковываем и содержимое закидываем в папку с игрой.

Так же в  версиях Red Alert 2 и в Yuri’s Revenge при игре в сетевую игру (локалка) не получится зайти в меню сеть, как будто это опция не активна, нажимаешь на подменю сеть , а она дальше не заходит, слышно тока звуковой эффект, а на Windows XP сеть может прекрасно работать, это связано с не поддержкой сетевого протокола ipx который был на старых windows системах, а в новых его убрали, чтобы решить данную проблему надо будет скачать этот архив:

распаковать архив и полученный файл wsock32.dll поместить в папку с игрой, тогда режим сетевой игры активируется и можно будет создавать игру сетевую и присоединяться. Если у вас старые версий Виндумс скорей всего у вас не будет таких проблем с сетевой игрой и графикой и игра будет работать сразу изначально нормально.

Скачиваем, устанавливаем, если надо указываем путь к игре где она установлена, обычный Red Alert 2 не подойдет, нужна именно Месть Юрия, карты не достающие CnCNet5 сама докачает при необходимости, эта платформа очень интересная CnCNet5, но учтите играют задроты)). Много интересных карт где к примеру нету золота, а только есть нефтяные вышки, есть карты где нужно тока обороняться, острова с картами и т. д. есть чаты для общения, карты определённые где запрещены или на оборот разрешены такие страны для выбора как Франция  или фракция Юрия, либо разрешено или запрещено супер оружия, много денег или мало для старта и т.д., в общем выбор разный. Платформа на английском, но интуитивно понятная. Когда заходите в созданную игру ознакомьтесь с условиями стартовыми для игрока, там указано сбоку условия старта и дальнейшие  правила игры данной  конкретной карты.

Если при запуске игры выходит ошибка: **FATAL** String Manager failed to initialize properly из-за особых особенностей клиент CnCNet для Yuri’s Revenge не использует файл gamemd.exe, а вместо него использует специально для CnCNet файл gamemd-spawn.exe. Укажите запуск с правами администратора для файла gamemd-spawn.exe и совместимость с самой старой версией Windows (к примеру XP) , который находится в папке игры с установленным CnCNet. Если не помогло или вы хотите играть игру без этого клиента просто по сети локальной (не через интернет) или с ботами, то сделать необходимо то что выше описал для следующих файлов: game.exe, gamemd.exe, RA2MD.exe., Ra2.exe, YURI.exe (совместимость с XP и запуск с правами администратора), чтобы выставить совместимость и запуск от имени администратора нажимаем по файлу правой кнопкой мыши, заходим в свойство, там вкладка совместимость выставляем:
