uTorrent is the most popular BitTorrent download manager that is widely used for direct file sharing between users. It is especially fit in regards to large size files. Of course, there’s a controversial debate on legality, we won’t go there. Our goal in this series of posts is just to guide a user on how to uninstall uTorrent or any other client completely and properly.
Often, people wish to remove it is the abundance of inescapable advertising. Also, in most cases, a torrent client launches automatically with the OS, runs in the background, and loads CPU. In some cases, the free version is bundled with suspicious software: browsers, crypto-mining software, adware, etc. Anyhow, here are several ways to remove the app from Windows 10.
How to uninstall uTorrent on Windows 10?
First of all, open the uTorrent folder and find out that it has no built-in uninstaller. Despite this, there are user-friendly methods to get rid of it: manual deleting of any associated files, via Windows tools, and/or third-party software. Secondly, the preparation stage. It means one has to finish the running process, as well as disable automatic startup on Windows launch.
Step 1: Press Ctrl+Alt+Del key combination and select Task Manager, or Ctrl+Shift+Esc combination to go there directly. In the Processes tab, locate the app in the list, click it once and then the End Task button in the bottom.
Step 2: Tap Startup on the top, locate uTorrent, right-click it and choose Disable. In case the app is not displayed there, go to torrent settings (General). Uncheck the “Start uTorrent when Windows starts” and “Start minimized” options. Then press Apply and OK. Now, let’s move on to uninstallation.
Option 1: Manual removal of files.
Simple and reliable way to properly remove a program. Also, manual removal is not just deleting a folder with an application – we will also need to detect any hidden folders that could remain, delete leftover files and clean up the registry.
Step 1: To see hidden files and folders, use the Search – type in File Explorer Options and press Enter. Choose the View tab, check “Show hidden files, folders and drives” option and click Apply.
Step 2: Locate the program on PC, e.g. right-click a desktop shortcut and choose “Open file location”. Go to AppData (Win+R), type Appdata in and press Enter. Open the Roaming folder and check for a uTorrent folder. Also check Program Files. If no success, use the search.
Step 3: Delete the folder. Then seek leftover files and delete those as well.
Step 4: Wipe out possible junk files in the Registry editor (find details on registry cleaning at the end of article).
Option 2: Use Windows tools.
Programs and Features is probably the most elementary way to uninstall programs from PC on Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10. Though, sometimes it does not work correctly and requires registry cleaning afterwards.
Step 1: Open Control Panel, go to “Uninstall a program”. Find uTorrent in the programs list, mark it and just click the Uninstall button above. Confirm.
Step 2: Wait for a while to see confirmation of completion. Then, search for leftover files (as described previously) and optimize the registry.
Apps & Features is another option – it is a default uninstaller tool in Windows 10. It is similar to the previous method. Type Apps & Features in the search taskbar. Find the app in the list, right-click it and uninstall. Afterwards, we recommend manual registry cleaning (see a chapter at the end).
Remove torrent client with special software
Third-party uninstallers are probably the most efficient way to uninstall uTorrent. Basically, such tools are user-friendly and perform registry optimization, as well as delete leftover files. - IObit Uninstaller
Launch the tool, go to the Programs tab and choose All Programs. Find uTorrent and click the green Uninstall button. Then, check “Automatically remove residual files” and “Create a restore point option” – optionally. Proceed. Choose to remove program settings and proceed further.
- Revo Uninstaller
Repeat the same sequence of steps. Same two options: a restore point and a registry backup (we recommend to enable both). Confirm to erase settings if you want to uninstall the program completely. There’s the Advanced scan mode that detects junk files – select All to delete. Repeat until everything is wiped out.
Registry cleaning (optional)
Note: Registry cleaning is recommended for skilled users. If done wrong, one can seriously damage the OS. If removing a torrent client manually, special software, a.k.a. registry cleaners, would be a good option. Probably the most famous registry cleaner is CCleaner. When cleaning the registry manually, it would be smart to create a backup.
Step 1: Open the Run utility, type in RegEdit in the search field, click OK to open the Registry Editor.
Step 2: Right-click the Computer icon, choose the Export option. Save it and remember the destination.
Step 3: Use the Ctrl+F hotkey combination for the search. Type utorrent in the search field and press Enter. It can take several moments.
Step 4: Delete those items. Repeat this procedure until you will see no more files. Also, check names both with u and μ letters, just in case.

Иногда требуется уметь не только устанавливать программы, но и удалять их. В этом плане торрент-клиенты не исключение. Причины для их деинсталляции могут быть разные: некорректная установка, желание перейти на более функциональную программу и т. д. Давайте рассмотрим, как удалить торрент на примере самого популярного клиента данной файлообменной сети – uTorrent.
Способы деинсталляции uTorrent
Как и в случае с любой другой программой, деинсталляцию uTorrent можно выполнить при помощи встроенных инструментов Windows или воспользовавшись специализированными утилитами.
Способ 1: Сторонние утилиты
Не всегда встроенный деинсталлятор uTorrent может полностью удалить программу вместе со всеми ее данными. Иногда остаются «следы» в виде файлов и папок. Для того чтобы гарантировать полное удаление приложения, рекомендуется использовать специальные сторонние утилиты. Одной из лучших среди таковых считается Uninstall Tool.

- После запуска Uninstall Tool, открывается окно, в котором находится список установленных на компьютере программ. Ищем в нем uTorrent, выделяем его и жмем на кнопку «Деинсталляция».
- Запускается собственный деинсталлятор, в котором предлагается выбрать один из двух вариантов выполнения процедуры: с полным удалением настроек приложения или с их сохранением на компьютере. Первый подходит для тех случаев, когда вы хотите сменить торрент-клиент или вообще желаете отказаться от скачивания торрентов. Второй подойдет, если просто нужно переустановить программу на более новую версию, сохранив при этом все прежние настройки. После того как определились со способом деинсталляции, жмем на кнопку «Удалить». Процедура проходит практически моментально в фоновом режиме, не появляется даже окно прогресса удаления приложения.
- После процедуры деинсталляции появляется окно утилиты Uninstall Tool, в котором предлагается произвести сканирование компьютера на предмет наличия остаточных файлов программы uTorrent. Это нужно сделать.
- Этот процесс занимает меньше минуты,
а по его завершении видно, полностью ли удалилась программа или присутствуют остаточные файлы. В случае наличия таковых Uninstall Tool предложит их удалить полностью. Жмем на кнопку «Удалить».
Примечание: Возможность удаления остаточных файлов и папок имеется только в платной версии программы Uninstall Tool.
Способ 2: Встроенные инструменты Windows
Теперь рассмотрим процедуру удаления uTorrent при помощи встроенных инструментов Windows.
- Для того чтобы удалить uTorrent, как и любую другую программу, нужно, прежде всего убедиться, что она не запущена в фоновом режиме. Для этих целей запускаем «Диспетчер задач», нажав сочетание клавиш «Ctrl+Shift+Esc». Выстраиваем процессы в алфавитном порядке и ищем процесс uTorrent. Если его не находим, можем сразу переходить к процедуре деинсталляции. Если же процесс все-таки обнаружен, завершаем его.
- Затем следует зайти в раздел «Удаление программ» «Панели управления» операционной системы Windows. После этого среди множества других программ, расположенных в списке, требуется найти приложение uTorrent. Выделяем его, и жмем на кнопку «Удалить».
- Открывается встроенный деинсталлятор программы uTorrent. Далее производится удаление программы так же, как было описано в предыдущем способе, за исключением чистки остаточных файлов. Убедиться в том, что процедура успешно завершена, можно либо по отсутствию ярлыка uTorrent на рабочем столе, либо по отсутствию данной программы в списке приложений, расположенных в разделе «Удаление программ» «Панели управления».
Как видим, удалить программу uTorrent не представляет абсолютно никакой сложности. Процесс намного проще, чем деинсталляция многих других приложений.

Есть 2 способа удалить uTorrent с компьютера. В инструкции ниже показан процесс удаления торрент-клиента с операционной системы Windows 10. На предыдущих версиях ОС порядок действий тот же.
Способ 1
Воспользуйтесь стандартным инструментом удаления программ Windows. Он открывается через панель управления компьютером, для ее вызова нажмите кнопку «Пуск», наберите слово «Панель» и зайдите в нее.
В открывшемся окне среди значков и ссылок на настройки ОС найдите «Удаление программы».
Попасть в этот инструмент можно также через проводник Windows, из папки «Этот компьютер».
В списке программ отыщите uTorrent. Отсортируйте список по имени или дате установки, чтобы найти его было проще.
Выберите uTorrent и нажмите кнопку «удалить».
Появится окно с запросом подтверждения ваших действий, ответьте в нем ДА.
Затем, если вы хотите удалить uTorrent с компьютера полностью, отметьте галочкой пункт «Удалить мои настройки» и нажмите на кнопку, как показано на скриншоте ниже, чтобы начать процесс деинсталляции.
Способ 2
Если uTorrent не удаляется через стандартный инструмент Windows, воспользуйтесь утилитой Uninstall Tool.
Скачайте ее с официального сайта, установите и запустите.
Uninstall Tool – платная программа, но у нее есть пробный период в 30 дней, которого нам хватит.
В правом окне утилиты найдите uTorrent. Кликните по столбцу «Программа», чтобы отсортировать список.
Выбрав uTorrent, нажмите на кнопку принудительного удаления.

For context, µTorrent is (at least) a decent torrent client, but that doesn’t mean it won’t trick users into installing third-party applications they otherwise wouldn’t want.
Some apps don’t even let the user know that they’ll be installing multiple applications. The Windows 10 operating system also installs plenty of additional software applications without asking for the user’s permission.
As far as popularity goes, there are very few torrent clients available that can compete with uTorrent. However, there are still third-party app installation files that try to install uTorrent on the user’s computer, with or without their permission. Once uTorrent gets into your computer in this manner, it’s very hard to remove it. Hence, we’ve written this guide to show you a couple of ways to uninstall uTorrent completely. So let’s get to it.

How to Completely Uninstall uTorrent Quickly & Easily
To start, you’ll want to uninstall uTorrent by first logging in with your administrative account and then following the steps below.
Step 1: Use the Task Manager to Kill uTorrent
- Press the combination of Shift+Ctrl+Esc. Doing so should open up the Task Manager for you.
- Once that’s done, you should pick out all the processes that have anything to do with uTorrent, then hit the option that says End Task.
One pro tip we’d like to mention here is that if you’re having any problems with closing uTorrent processes or if you’d rather not have any potential problems while uninstalling µTorrent, then you should probably restart your computer and boot it in Safe Mode.
Safe Mode is great because it effectively removes the ability for any third-party app to activate itself.
So, start your computer in Safe Mode and then continue with the second step we mentioned above. If you don’t know how to boot your computer in Safe Mode on Windows 10, then do this:
- First hit the combination Windows Key + R. This should open up the Run dialogue.
- From there, you need to type the text ‘msconfig’ in front of where it says Open. Then press Enter.
- Click on the tab that says Boot while you have the System Configuration window open.
- Look for the box that says Safe boot, then check it. You should also click the option that says Minimal.
- After that, hit the OK button and continue to check the Restart option, which would appear in another dialog pop-up.
Step 2: Use the Control Panel to Uninstall uTorrent
First, we will cater to people who still have not updated their operating system from Windows 7. If you’re on a Windows 7 computer, follow these instructions:
- First, go to the Windows Start menu.
- Go to the Control Panel option.
- Click on Program to open up the panel titled Programs and Features.
- Scroll until you come across the item uTorrent. Select it and then right-click on it. Then choose the option Change/Uninstall.
Users on Windows 8 computers should follow these instructions:
- Right-click the Windows Start Menu and then choose the option Program and Features from the shown list.
- Select the uTorrent option and then press the Uninstall button to begin the process.
Finally, users on the Windows 10 platform should follow these steps:
- Press the Start button and then go to All apps.
- Select uTorrent from the list and then right-click it.
- After that, choose Uninstall.
- When that’s done, you should see the uTorrent Uninstallation wizard. Click the option that says Uninstall and wait.
- Once your Windows 10 computer has completed the uninstallation process, you should probably restart your system so that all the changes will take effect.
Another method you can use here is to make use of your computer’s built-in default uninstaller to remove the uTorrent app.
- Select the This PC shortcut and then double click it. You can also hit the combination Windows + E to open up the Windows 10 File Explorer.
- Navigate to the uTorrent installation folder. If you didn’t change the installation location while you were installing uTorrent, then you’ll probably find it in the C:/Program Files folder.
- Once there, scroll to locate the uninstall.exe file (or unins000.exe depending on the uTorrent version you have).
- Double-click on one of the two files mentioned above to launch the default uninstall program.
- Then you should follow all the prompts that come your way to finally uninstall uTorrent from your computer once and for all.
But hang on just a second as there are a few more steps you’ll need to take:
Step 3: Take a Look at Your Entries & Delete All the Invalid Ones
Follow the steps below:
- Click on Start and then on Control Panel.
- After that, click Appearance and Personalization and then Folder Explorer Options.
- Then, choose the tab that says View.
- Check the button for the option that says Show hidden files and folders. This option should appear in the Advanced settings tab.
- After that, just hit OK.
- Now you need to hit the This PC icon again (it should be on your desktop). Alternatively, you can also click the combination Windows Key + E to open the Windows File Explorer.
- After that, just type the word ‘uTorrent’ into the Search Bar and wait for the results.
- In the leftover results, identify the item that says uTorrent. And then move ahead to delete all of the uTorrent files permanently.
Step 4: Eliminate All uTorrent Leftovers
Here, we should note that the process of cleaning up the registry entries is a complex one, and if you mess this up, you may seriously corrupt your registry. Therefore, in order to have a backup plan, you need to make sure that you have a backup file (or backup files) of your current registry. That way, you can simply restore your registry file in case you corrupt it.
This is important:
Beginner users should stay away from modifying their registry on their own. If an entry is ambiguous, leave it alone. Call in an expert or make use of a tool that specializes in optimizing registries.
If you’re still comfortable with proceeding, follow these steps:
- Click the Start button and then enter the Run option.
- Write regedit and then hit the Enter button. This will effectively launch the Registry Editor.
- From there, click on Yes if your machine prompts you to confirm the UAC dialog. Then you should press the combination of Ctrl+F. This will open up the Windows Find box.
- Type the text ‘uTorrent’ there. Then press the Enter button and the F3 button. This will allow you to locate the exact entries that uTorrent uses to work properly.
- Right-click on the values or keys, then delete all the uTorrent options present in the shown list.
And that’s it. If you followed everything in this guide exactly, then you’ve done everything you need to do to remove uTorrent from your Windows computer. If you want to remove any bundled applications or files that came with uTorrent, then repeat the process described above for those unwanted applications (if there are any).
We should also mention here that the methods we’ve mentioned above will work if you went through the trouble of installing uTorrent in the proper manner when you first installed it. In other words, our methods may not work if you did not install the uTorrent app the right way.

Alternative Method: How to Uninstall µTorrent
Briefly, we’ll outline an alternative method you can use to remove the uTorrent app:
- First, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\uTorrent
- Then type this: C:\Users\YourPCName\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe
- This should work to remove the uTorrent icon. To uninstall, type: C:\Users\YourPCName\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent\uTorrent.exe”/UNINSTALL
Another way to remove the app is to go to your \AppData\Roaming folder because this is where uTorrent extracts its data:
- More specifically, go to the system drive and then enable the Hidden Folder option. Then choose app data and then choose the roaming folder.
- Search for the uTorrent folder and delete it.
- Launch the task manager again and then go to the startup tab. From there, disable uTorrent.
- When that’s done, go to …\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
- From there, delete the uTorrent shortcut which appears in your Start menu.

Данная небольшая статья расскажет как удалить торрент с компьютера.
Также покажу как удалить остатки/следы используя удалятор + ручной способ.
Первым делом нужно открыть окно Программы и компоненты:
- Зажмите клавиши Win + R, появится окошко Выполнить. Вставьте системную команду appwiz.cpl, кликните ОК.
- Второй вариант — используйте поиск Пуска, в котором укажите слово панель, далее выберите Панель управления (Классическое приложение). В панели управления найдите значок Программы и компоненты.
PS: оптимально использовать команду appwiz.cpl.
Далее появится окно удаления приложений — найдите программу uTorrent, выберите и нажмите Удалить (можете выполнить сортировку приложений путем нажатия на название колонки Имя):
Подтвердите удаление торрента. Если не планируете устанавливать торрент в будущем — тогда нет необходимости сохранять текущие настройки торрента и поэтому галочку ставим, кликаем Удалить:
Альтернативный метод. Используем удалятор Uninstall Tool:
- Загрузите с официального сайта приложение Uninstall Tool (напишите просто название в Google).
- Uninstall Tool — платная программа, однако имеет пробный период 30 дней, которого более чем достаточно.
Фишка удалятора — он также позволит удалить следы/остатки торрента.
После запуска удалятора — для удобства отсортируйте список ПО, нажав по названию колонки Программа:
Найдите uTorrent, запустите принудительный способ удаления:
Подтвердите деинсталляцию торрента нажав Да:
Ручное удаление остатков.
ВНИМАНИЕ: внимательно смотрите что удаляете, создайте перед удалением контрольную точку восстановления, а лучше — образ системы (по возможности).
Сперва удалите файловые остатки торрента:
- Откройте проводник. Откройте Системный диск (обычно буква C, может называться Система).
- Далее убедитесь что включен показ скрытых файлов и папок. Проверить можно так: зажмите Win + R > команда control > значок Параметры проводника > вкладка Вид > выберите Показывать скрытые файлы, папки и диски. PS: или воспользуйтесь инструкцией из интернета, их очень много.
- В правом верхнем углу открытого системного диска будет текстовое поле. Вставьте туда слово utorrent, дождитесь окончания поиска. Будут найдены все файлы, в названии которых упоминается utorrent, удалите те, которые точно от программы (можно проанализировать свойства файлы, папка расположения). Также проверьте, что файл — точно от uTorrent, вдруг вы найдете файлы, в названии которых просто упоминается слово utorrent (просто будьте внимательны).
PS: при проблемах удаления можно использовать утилиту для принудительного удаления файлов/папок — Unlocker.
Удаление остатков торрента из реестра:
- Откройте реестр. Зажмите клавиши Win + R, вставьте команду regedit, нажмите ОК.
- Откроется редактор реестра. Слева — разделы, справа — параметры (ключи). Выберите раздел под названием Компьютер (при наличии).
- Зажмите кнопки Ctrl + F, укажите в текстовое поле слово utorrent, нажмите Найти далее.
- Будут найдены разделы и ключи, где упоминается слово utorrent. Это остатки — их можно удалить (только перед удалением посмотрите, что это точно utorrent, а не название другой программы, в которой упоминается это слово).
- После нахождения результата — нажмите F3 для продолжения поиска. Пока не будет окошко Поиск завершен.
