In order to overcome this issue, you may update all your device drivers, uninstall the problematic software, or update. Make sure to run the SFC command to repair missing and corrupted system files on your PC. If none of these fixes help and you do have a system restore point, you may revert your device back to an earlier working point. In case you haven’t created any restore point, all you can do is perform a clean installation of Windows 11/10 on your computer. 

  • Remove the IRST drivers
  • Update the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
  • Uninstall buggy applications
  • Disable the background Running Services

  • Use System Restore Point

1] Remove the IRST drivers

3] Uninstall buggy applications

  • Right-click on the Windows icon and select Run from the Power menu.

  • Next, execute the following codes. Make sure to hit the Enter key at the end of each code.

6] Run SFC Utility

  • If UAC prompts, tap Yes.

7] Use System Restore Point

8] Clean install Windows 10

If you don’t have the Windows Setup file, follow these steps to get one –

  • Open Microsoft Windows 10 download page.
  • When the window appears, click on the Download tool now button to save the setup file.

  • After you download the setup file, double-click on the same to start the installation. Next, check the “I Agree” option to accept Microsoft’s terms and conditions.
  • Subsequently, enable the checkbox against Create Installation Media (USB flash drive, DVD, or ISO file) for another PC then Next to proceed.
  • Now select your preferred language, architect, and edition. Henceforth, deactivate Use the recommended option for this PC option followed by the Next button.

Install Windows 10

  • Succeeding that choose the USB flash drive radio button then Next again.
  • At last, click on the Finish button to complete the process. Once over, Reboot your PC.

What is Error iaStorA.sys?

2- Please provide more details about the steps that you are following to upgrade to Windows* 11? Do you mean you are trying to install Windows* 11 over an existing installation of Windows 10? What is the «setup program» that you are using?

3- When you said: «I have ensured that the driver in question is current«. What specific driver do you mean? (graphics driver? SSD driver? Intel® RST? etc?)

4- Exact model of the ASUS* «X299-A» motherboard and BIOS version:

No, I didn’t get an answer. I decided to rebuild the system from scratch. This cost me three days (so far) of work.

I was trying to upgrade an existing Windows 10 system running on an Intel Core i9-7900X on an Asus X299-A running their most current BIOS. After repeated attempts, Windows 11 setup failed to install or use the iastoreE.sys device driver (supplied by Intel). As suggested, I downloaded the driver from the Intel site but this didn’t fix anything. This problem (that ASUS could not solve) cost me over a month of time as I waited for them to research a solution for the problem they were able to reproduce. Their “solution” was to give up on the update and install Windows 11 after having cleared the partitions on the M.2 boot drive.

I have worked with Intel since 1986 to support your efforts to interact with Microsoft. I’m sorely disappointed that this problem could not have been resolved in a more timely manner.

As it is, the system is back up and running.

After a clean install of Windows 11, 26080, and an upgrade to Windows Update, 26100, the system would always crash upon the first boot. The first crash was a «green» screen with iaStorE.sys as the failing component. Subsequent reboots were blue screens with the same error. Since the crash happened following an attempted upgrade to 26100, there were no restore points to which it could revert back. Each crash resulted in having to do a clean install.

In an effort to troubleshoot, I set Windows Update so that it does not provide drivers when checking for updates via LGPO. However, the update to 26100 does not adhere to this setting, thus resulting in a crash during the first reboot following installation.
.
The only way I could get build 26100 installed in this system was to do the following:

  • Install 26080 to a Hyper-V VM and upgrade to 26100
  • Do a sysprep (generalize)
  • Capture the wim via DISM and split the WIM into install.swm and install2.swm
  • Install to the target system using a USB drive with the updated install.swm, install2.swm

Once the target physical system was clean installed with build 26100, I created manual system restore points. Then, when doing a Windows Update and accepting the drivers provided, I could recreate the same crash with the same faulting driver. However, in this case, I could boot into the install media and revert to the system restore checkpoint.

When I visited the Intel website and manually downloaded the drivers for the afflicted storage device, all worked normally.

The Windows Update driver I believe to be causing the issue is «Intel Corporation — SCSAdapter — 7.7.0.1260 (failed),» and it is still being offered via Windows Update.

I will, again, configure Windows Update not to provide drivers, but this is undesirable behavior.

It is important to note that when this system had Windows 11, 23H2, build 22631.3447, it experienced the same crashing behavior with this device driver.

Note: I am using CloverMode to boot from my Primary NVME Samsung EVO 970 250GB for Windows 10 and same for upgrade
PC doesnt support native to NVME so using NVME on PCIe adaptor via CloverMode on USB
everything is UEFI without TPM

There were no dump files collected by the log collector.

Files were recently cleaned.

The collected logs start and end today 10/08/2021.

1) Please uninstall:
a) Driver Booster 8
b) Driver Easy 5.7.0

2) If you can identify any drivers installed by these software please uninstall them.

3) For drivers please use these sources:

a) The Asus website:

b) Component manufacturer websites

c) Windows updates

4) Please do not use any third party software to update or install drivers.

5) Launch Ccleaner > click the Windows tab or custom clean > scroll down to system and advanced > post images into this thread

6) See if you can run these scripts (currently requires Ten Forums logon):

Tuneup_plus_log.bat ─ Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

DiskParInfo.bat — Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.

7) Monitor the computer using reliability monitor:

Driver booster and Driver easy uninstalled
I installed nearly 15+ drivers using these apps

its so hard to properly uninstall those drivers while keeping system working
not all these all drivers are on Asus vendor Z87 Deluxe website

Note:- I also tried upgrading with Windows 10 21H1 upgrade on same machine running same version from ISO
and it fails to __ with same errors

did TUNEUP.BAT

I will try Windows 11 installation soon and will update here

I have an i7-4790K and the exact same problem with iaStorE.sys
After installing Rapid storage technology driver the installation crashes on 63% in the exact same way. Have you found a solution?​

@trainwreck yeah but I found the some problem
1--Problem causes due to lots of driver easy & driver booster’s driver package installed
2—dont use shutup10 app and if done then revert it and clean reboot
3—if ur using any driver update software and it has roll back to windows stock driver then try it
4—if needed then roll back optional updated drivers in windows update
5—try clean boot and clean start/shutdown and then try

6—I just restore my Old Image backup copy of Windows 10 21H1 having no any 3rd party nor optional updates installed
7—-not even rapid storage tech driver installed from Intel

DONE I am able to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro and keep all apps here

I’m facing the same problem with an MSI Z87-G64 + i5-4670K when trying to install Intel SATA AHCI Controller driver.
I guess I’ll use the generic Microsoft drivers for now

Nonsense.

iaStorE.sys error while booting

Windows 11 installation process is not compatible with these older RSTe drivers, return the controller to the StorAHCI driver and try again, the driver may work once the installation is completed however.
