После обновления до Windows 10 перестало работать входящее в пакет Windows Live/Essentials приложение для редактирования видео Movie Maker (или «Киностудия Windows»). Иногда леплю видеоролики в «киностудии»; приложение покоряет доступностью, удобством и простотой.
Поэтому разбираюсь с проблемой, не откладывая. При запуске программа жаловалась на отсутствие файла MSVCR110.dll.
Сам файл в папке Windows/System32 (для 32-битных приложений) присутствовал, в папке Windows/SysWOW64 (для 64-битных приложений) такого файла не было. При попытке скопировать dll-ку из одной папки в другую Movie Maker не запускался, но выдавал на этот раз «ошибку при запуске приложения (0xc000007b)».
Код ошибки вывел меня на рецепт: нужно аккуратно удалить файл MSVCR110.dll из обеих папок и установить «распространяемый пакет Visual C++ для Visual Studio 2012» как для 32-битной ОС, так и для 64-битной в случае, если у вас 64-битная Windows 10. На 32-битной «винде» достаточно установить 32-битную версию пакета. Дело в том, что Microsoft не стала включать библиотеки пакета в дистрибутив «десятки», но они нужны для работы некоторых приложений.
После переустановки пакета «Visual C++ для Visual Studio 2012» видеоредактор Movie Maker заработал как ни в чём ни бывало.

Windows Live Essentials 2011 requires the following:

2. A dialog box will open asking you if you want to run or save the setup file or even cancel it
3. Click on the arrow beside Save and click on Save As, browse to your desktop and click Save
The downloaded file will be located on your desktop, double click on it to run it
If you have UAC enabled, it will ask you if you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer, click yes to continue

To install all of these programs, click on the first option
To install only selected programs, then click on
6. Click on Choose the programs you want to install, unselect any program that you don’t desire to install and then click on Install
Make sure Photo Gallery and Movie Maker is selected

8. Once installation is completed, click on Close
To start Windows Live Movie Maker 2011, click on Start then All Programs, and click on Windows Live Movie Maker

Summary
Movie Maker is a free video editing application that used to be included with every version of Windows since Windows Me till Windows Vista. However, With Windows 7, Windows Live Movie Maker 2011 is not preinstalled with Windows 7 by default. Its now part of Windows Live Essentials package. To install Windows Live Movie Maker 2011, you have to download Windows Live Essentials, and select Windows Live Movie Maker.

The Problem: Windows Live Movie Maker project files use absolute file-paths. That means that after you make a movie, you can’t change the location of the media files in your movie. This app solves that problem!

If Windows 11 won’t run my utility, try this: Windows Key+S to bring up «Search». Search for «Reputation-based protection». Scroll down to «Potentially unwanted app blocking» and try turning that off.

For Windows 11, you need to run Windows Live Movie Maker in compatibility mode for Windows 7. In File Explorer go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery. Right click on MovieMaker.exe and choose Propertues. In the Compatibility tab choose «Run In Campatibility Mode» and choose «Windows 7».
