Epson Perfection V370 Specifications
Among the crowded field of flatbed scanners, the Epson Perfection V370 Photo ($119.99) stands out with its very high-resolution scanning and photo-centric features. It’s an ideal choice for an amateur or professional photographer or archivist who needs to scan 35mm slides, film, and negatives because the V370 features an optical resolution of 4,800 dots per inch (dpi). That’s much better than most flatbeds; even many sheet-fed scanners can manage it. As icing on the cake for photographers and artists, ArcSoft Scan-n-Stitch Deluxe software also includes scanning oversized and panoramic art, a feature you usually only find in scanners that cost many times as much.
Usability is another of the V370’s strong suits; its USB-connected, simple, straightforward interface makes set-up and operation nearly seamless, even for novices. Its Easy Photo Fix option, which was particularly useful in our test to restore color to an original Canon Cat faded to an almost-martian hue, handled photo restoration with ease and removed dust with the click of a button, making us happy to say goodbye to countless hours of retouching. The scanning speed is typical as scanners in its class go; not lightning fast but not frustratingly slow either. Depending on the application, speed is relative, and the V370 may lag behind some of the more time-efficient options. This factor becomes particularly critical as the level of high-resolution detail needed increases.
However, the V370’s crux is its limited document scanning capabilities. While it is proficient enough to handle the occasional document scanning job, the V370 is not optimized. Still, the Epson Perfection V370 Photo scanner can carve out a niche for itself by addressing the exact needs of photo enthusiasts and serving capably in casual digitization tasks.
Its liabilities in speed and functionality are balanced out by noteworthy performance and image quality, combined with a price tag that doesn’t put a permanent dent in your wallet. While it wouldn’t suffice for heavy-duty professional projects, its capabilities make it a consistent and economical choice for personal or light professional scanning projects.
