Emupedia’s main objective is to become a central resource so users can always locate any titles they are looking for no matter what system or region it originated from.
Emupedia’s goal is to preserve as many games from the past as possible, regardless of their historical value or popularity. It was created on March 28, 2006, by a group of preservationists who wanted to create and share an online database of video games that were no longer available on the market or online but were still existing in people’s collections. Using emulation technology and the help of thousands of people across the world, Emupedia became one of the biggest repositories for old games, ultimately resulting in over 2 million entries and growing daily.
How does Emupedia Work?
Emupedia will be a collection of arcade games, Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Sega Genesis and Sega Master System (SMS), Game Boy, Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), and PlayStation 1 games that players can access online. Emupedia will take all those games from retro consoles and put them on one hub for its users to enjoy. This means they won’t have to pay an arm and a leg to play some good old games again or even download illegal ROMs. Not only does it seem like Emupedia is going to do what we said in point #1 above but also it seems like it’ll also allow video game enthusiasts to view videogame information such as screenshots and release dates for each of those retro titles. Seems pretty sweet!

- большая группа систем, снятых с производства
- сайты с заброшенными, условно-бесплатными или бесплатными играми
- порты старых игр с открытым исходным кодом, которые работают в современных браузерах
- новые игры и ПО, разработанные с использованием современных веб-технологий с использованием графики в стиле ретро

Emupedia is an attempt to preserve classic old video games from the 90s and even before that. It differs from other projects because it provides these video games ready to be played from within your web browser. There is no need to install anything, you can just visit the Emupedia website and start playing the games.
If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, then you are going to love Emupedia as you can relive your old days once again. On Emupedia, you can find all of these games at the click of a button. Some of these games are from 90s but some appear to be from late 70s. These games are not necessarily PC games but were originally run on game consoles.
When you first visit Emupedia website, it will give you a choice to pick an operating system theme from Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Millennium. These are operating systems from Microsoft that were once very popular. It actually does not run any virtual operating system but only uses a desktop theme from those systems.
On the desktop screen of these systems you will find the shortcuts of all the games and applications from the old time. Some of the popular applications like Microsoft Notepad, Microsoft Paint and Winamp music player have found place on these desktops. Classic games of all sorts are also there.
In order to play the games, you have to double-click on their shortcuts just as you would do on a real Windows desktop screen. They use either the games being run in the virtual environments like DOSBox or use open-source alternatives of those games. I tried playing the Pong game that was released in 1972 but it seems to be quite a challenge.
