5.1 Com0com Installation and Configuration(Windows)
Download the signed version of com0com.
Unzip the downloaded .zip file and run the specific installer of your operating system, x86
for windows 32-bit or x64 for windows 64-bit.
Configure the “choose components” window as the figure below:
In the last configuration window, check the “Launch setup” option:
In the setup window, change the port names to COM1, COM2, COM3 …. Just check the
“enable buffer overrun” and “use Port class” options on the port used to CuteCom, click in
the “Apply” button and close the setup. In the configuration shown in the figure below, the
port COM1 (with buffer overrun disabled) must be used by the PICSimLab and
COM2 (with buffer overrun enabled) by the application with serial communication.
com0com это свободная утилита для создания пары виртуальных последовательных портов, которые могут быть использованы для получения отладочных данных от ReactOS и направления их в программу-терминал.
Полезные программы-терминалы, при помощи которых можно получить эти данные:
- Hyper Terminal
- Teraterm
- Putty
- Hercules
- ReactOSDbg

Adding COM ports with COM0COM
Unread post
by Douglass Allen »
I have spent many hours trying to add COM ports to a several windows 10 computers with COM0COM. When I try to start up the 64 bit COM0COM version, I get the following message-
«This package does not include 64 bit driver required for your system.» I find nothing about a 64 bit driver when I do a Google search.
Using the 32 bit COM0COM software I get a message-
«SDR needs a COM port to control it and none were found….»
Program Options Port Selections shows no ports.
Not sure if I’m using the 32 bit or 64 bit Console. Does it matter?
Is it possible for an 80 year old to figure all this out even with some much needed hand holding?

Hi Doug
Firstly, if you have a 64 bit copy of Windows 10 (probably 95% of all installations of Win10 are 64 bit I would think) then always download and use latest 64 bit download of SDRC, which currently is 3.0.27:
https://www.sdr-radio.com/download
The link at top of page that says «Select 32 bit or 64 bit» does not take you to the SDRC download, it takes you to a link on advice on how to see if you have 32 bit or 64 bit Windows. Maybe do that first to find the version of Windows that you have, then come back to the link above and carefully scroll down to the big green «Download» graphic with «3.0.27» on it, then select relevant download version, 32 bit or 64 bit (almost certainly you will want the latter).
Loads of instructions on use of SDRC here:
https://www.sdr-radio.com/
Go to top of screen and hover over the menus at the top of screen. There is much more info here than it seems at first sight by using the drop-down menus by hovering over the buttons at top of screen.
Re Com0Com. Never used it but I have had great success with VSP Manager from K5FR. Just email him with your call sign and he will email a link to download it. I find it very easy to use.
See these two pages for more info:
https://www.sdr-radio.com/SerialPort#Vi … PortDriver
https://www.sdr-radio.com/cw-skimmer#VirtualSerialCable
Good luck.

Thank you Max and jddow. I just this morning downloaded the latest 64 bit 3.1 version. I spent many, many hours last summer with an earlier SDR Console before giving up. Now I’m trying again
Yes, I have read Loads of instructions on use of SDRC here:
https://www.sdr-radio.com/ many times including the part on Serial Ports.
Yes, I have «use Ports class» for both ports and still the ports are listed in Device Manager on their own line and not under Ports.
I have watched this video- Creating virtual COM ports with com0com and it shows the virtual ports under te Device Manager Ports and not on their own com0com line so I think that’s the problem. It could be something else.
jdow, how did you copy and paste the com0com screen? I tried the snaipping tool and it doesn’t paste to these forum posts.

I have used com0com software for several years now and found it to be a great solution for creating virtual serial port connections. It is easy to install and configure for use. The user interface is intuitive and the performance is reliable. It is also highly customizable and supports a wide range of emulations. The only downside I have experienced is that the software can be a bit slow at times. Other than that, it has been an excellent solution for my needs.

I have used com0com software for a few months and I have found it to be quite reliable. It’s been easy to set up, and I’ve found the virtual ports to be stable and responsive. I have experienced minimal latency when transferring data between the ports, and I haven’t experienced any crashes or errors. The support documentation is user-friendly and easy to understand.

Com0com is an open-source software that provides a system for emulating serial port device pairs, which are indispensable in creating virtual null-modem cables. This feature allows developers to perform testing of various software and hardware solutions without the need for physical devices. It further enhances the debugging process by enabling data routing and monitoring.

Reliable for serial communication simulation.
Com0com: reliable for creating virtual serial ports.
Great for connecting devices, but confusing to set up.
Because I wanna to use serial to communicate with OVMF via QEMU, I tried to search a workable serial port emulator for free
The first choice is com0com but seems the project owner cannot resign its driver for Windows 10 without need to enabling TESTSIGNING mode or disabling SecureBoot, but the both workaround are not accepable.
Fortunately, there is a workable signed driver provided by PETE’S BLOG.
