Java Edition — это именно тот Minecraft, который изначально начал разрабатывать Маркус Перссон в 2009 году. Можно сказать, что это «флагманское» издание, поддерживаемое разработчиками в первую очередь — даже несмотря на то, что в неё играет меньше людей.
Преимущества:
- Все нововведения и обновления появляются сначала на Java Edition, и уже затем — на консолях и мобильных телефонах.
- Всё многообразие бесплатных пользовательских модификаций, текстур-паков и скинов существует именно здесь.
- Большинство серверов (как лицензионных, так и пиратских) работают на Java Edition.
- При желании в официальном клиенте можно установить любую из когда-либо публиковавшихся в открытом доступе версий — вплоть до Indev (in development — в разработке) десятилетней давности.

Зависит от того, что требуется — так как все фичи с Java Edition присутствуют и в Windows 10 Edition. Хоть и до последней апдейты доходят чуть дольше.
Если вам важен перенос прогресса между платформами, то, конечно, стоит выбрать Windows 10 Edition — иного способа перенести игровую карту с ПК на смартфоны нет.
Однако в таком случае вы не сможете ставить моды, заходить на ПК-серверы и делать всё то, что на Java Edition было доступно ещё со времён альфа- и бета-тестирования.
Также из мелких достоинств Windows 10 Edition стоит выделить то, что она поддерживает управление контроллером с Xbox One, а также меньше тормозит — из-за того, что работает на C++, а не на Java.
Важный момент: Windows 10 Edition не будет запускаться на Xbox One, и наоборот. Её нужно докупать отдельно.
- Legacy Console Edition. На данный момент включает в себя версии, которые перестали обновляться — для PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360 и Wii U. Впрочем, их прекратили поддерживать всего полтора года назад, поэтому все фичи из предпоследнего крупного обновления, Aquatic Update, в них есть.

Minecraft is arguably the best-selling game of all time, bar none. Still, if you’re coming to the voxel-based survival crafting craze just now, you might have noticed that there are two versions you can pick up if you’re going to play on PC. So, which one should you be buying?

Well, first, let’s talk about how there came to be two versions in the first place. Minecraft was first released in 2011 by Mojang AB and its creator ‘Notch’. It was first developed using Java and this version would later be referred to as the Java Edition.
In the same year, Minecraft Pocket Edition was released exclusively released for the Sony Xperia Play smartphone. This was the first version to use the Bedrock Edition codebase which would later be ported to other modern platforms such as Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Fire OS, consoles, and, of course, Windows 10.
So how do these two versions differ?
PLATFORMS
- Minecraft Java Edition: WINDOWS, macOS, LINUX
- Minecraft Windows 10 Edition: WINDOWS 10
When it comes to traditional computers, Java Edition supports most modern operating systems and older versions of Windows. This very important if your computer is not running Windows 10. The Windows 10 Edition, as the name suggests, is only compatible with Windows 10.
CROSS-PLATFORM MULTIPLAYER
- Minecraft Java Edition: YES
- Minecraft Windows 10 Edition: YES
Both versions support cross-play, but this is where the Windows 10 Edition shines the best. Since Java Edition only supports Windows, macOS and Linus, you can only play with other people on traditional computers. On the other hand, the Windows 10 Edition is based on the Bedrock Edition which is also used for the game’s mobile and console versions. This makes it possible to play with players on those platforms. The only exceptions here are Sony consoles, where, at the moment, cross-play is only available between the PlayStation 4 and the PS Vita.
It is also important to note that players on the Java Edition cannot play with those on the Windows 10 Edition, and vice versa.
MODS AND DLC
When it comes to mods, the Java Edition has the upper hand because it was the first version to come out. The modding community is vast and very active. Several sites also provide free skins and textures to allow players to customize the look and feel of their game without spending a pretty penny.
Since most Minecraft mods are written in Java, the Windows 10 Edition is severely lacking in mods compared to the Java Edition. When it comes to DLC, though, there are also lots of free skins and textures that can be downloaded off of the internet. There are also paid DLC that are mostly based on other IPs or seasonal themes.
It is important to note that mods, skins, textures, and even saved games for one version of the game cannot be used in the other by default.
PERFORMANCE
There is a bit of contention in this area, but most players would agree that the Windows 10 Edition has the upper hand as it will run on almost anything that can run Windows 10. The game adjusts settings such as max draw and simulation distance based on how powerful your system is. The Java Edition still runs great, though, even on not-so-powerful systems.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
It’s important to note that because these are two separate versions, there are some differences gameplay-wise. I won’t go into the details as it will quickly turn into a debate on which mechanic works better in which version, but it’s important to note that the development teams aim to bring both versions closer and closer to each other with every update.
That being said, you’ll also want to consider the fact that the Windows 10 Edition, or the Bedrock Edition, is the new “default” version and support will most likely lean more towards this version as the years pass by. That’s not to say the Java Edition is going away anytime soon, but the Windows 10 Edition will surely outlast it.
FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS
So, what do all of these mean and which version should you get?
Well, if you’re coming in blind and just want to enjoy Minecraft for the phenomenon that it is, the default choice would be the Windows 10 Edition. This version would allow you to play with friends and family on other platforms, particularly those who prefer to game on their mobiles or consoles. You also won’t have to worry about whether your PC can run it or not.
However, if your computer is running macOS, Linus, or an older version of Windows, you’ll have to get the Java Edition. Also, if you’re looking to be a power user who wants to run lots of mods to fully customize your experience, both visually and gameplay-wise, you’ll want to get the Java Edition.

Minecraft was originally a Java based game until Microsoft bought it. The company has left Minecraft mostly untuoched in that the team continues to develop it to the same standard before with one exception. There is a Minecraft UWP version of the game. The Java version is still alive and in active development but since Minecraft is a popular game title, having it as a UWP app is a good way to promote these types of apps.
The two versions are a lot alike as far as features are concerned and by features, we mean the various items, mobs, and biomes that appear in the game, as well as its general mechanics. That said, there are differences between the game as well and they impact game play to a great extent.
Bugs, bugs, and bugs
Games, particularly those as complex as Minecraft will have bugs in them. The Java version has its own glitches and the Windows 10 version has its own bugs but the Java version has been around for a good ten years and the Windows 10 version has not.
As such, the bugs in the UWP version of the app are far worse than those in the Java version. You may notice that mob spawn rates, as well as biome diversity has suffered somewhat in both versions of the app but on the UWP version, it’s particularly bad. The spawn rate is poor enough to make the game’s objective far more difficult to reach.
The point is, while both versions have bugs, the UWP version has bugs that impact game play.
Resources and modifications
Minecraft for Windows 10 supports almost all the modifications that the Java version does however, not as many resources for it have been developed. You’ll find plenty of texture packs and shaders for the Java version, and only a handful of them for the Windows 1o version. If you plan to mod the game quite a bit, the Java version is the way to go.
System resource consumption
The Java version of Minecraft is far more resource hungry than the Windows 10 version. This is more a Java problem than a Minecraft problem but there’s been little improvement on that front. If you do not intend to mod the game much, using the Windows 10 version is a better idea. That said, with modifications, the Windows 10 version of the app does run heavy on the system.
Active development
As mentioned earlier, the Java version of Minecraft is still being actively developed and there are no indications that it will be abandoned. If your only reason for switching to the Windows 10 version is you’re worried that the Java one will be discontinued, you should know that Microsoft tends to keep it alive.
Community
Minecaft, as a game, has a large user base that uses the Java version with only a small portion using the Windows 10 version. As such, the creative community builds most things for the Java version. Many in-game mechanics will work the same on both versions but any time it comes to things like texture packs, or adding other external resources/additions to the app, you will find the Windows 10 version will be left behind.
Cross platform multi-player
Minecraft is a desktop game but other versions of it do exist for other gaming platforms. There are even dedicated mobile versions of the game. Both the Java version and the Windows 10 version allows you to play with other players via servers etc., however with the Windows 10 version, the players can be from any platform; mobile, desktop, or console. The Java version does not have this option and there’s no way to force it.
Controller support
This is one of the bigger difference between the Java and Windows 10 versions of the app and it may, or may not matter depending how you want to play the game.
As of writing, the Java version does not support controllers out of the box. There are hacks to get them working but they’re hacks. The Windows 10 version supports controllers out of the box without any problems or complications.
Servers
Servers for both Java and Windows 10 versions are available however, due to the age of the Java version and it having more players overall, the Java servers far outnumber the Windows 10 ones and they are much better in most aspects.
Functional differences
While similar, Minecraft Windows 10 and the Java version are not identical. There’s a list of exclusive features that the Windows 10 version has that you can check out. If you see anything you’d like no matter what, consider going with the UWP version of the game.
Summary
The Minecraft Java version is more stable, has a larger community, and supports better maps, servers, and modifications that the Windows 10 version does not even come close to matching.
The Minecraft Windows 10 version has some exclusive features, controller support, and allows you to play with other players who are playing from different platforms.
Most people are of the opinion that if you like to play by yourself, focus on the core of the game, or just have fun in creative mode, the Windows 10 version is for you. If you want to play on servers, heavily mod the game so that it practically looks like Skyrim, the Java version is for you.

Intro
Gamehag has both of them fortunately, and if you want you can order them both and experiment further. The windows 10 edition is basically the Minecraft pocket version sensually, so the graphics are the same but not. It’s easier to run. But has less: mods, resource packs and just in general. Minecraft Java Edition has been developed for more than 10 years, with the community and Mojang, making more and more updates on it. I believe that Minecraft Java’s Edition has an update that goes up to 1.14.4! Which includes more animals, more pets and I believe more DLCs, newer blocks.
Where as the Win 10 Edition, their latest update their version goes up to 1.1.5. Since it’s been released in July the 29th of 2015.

Pros and Cons of the both
The Pros of having the Win 10 Edition:
- Easier to run
- Costs less.
The Cons of having the Win 10 Edition:
- Less developed, (less blocks, mods, resource packs and even servers)
- Can’t play with Java Edition players.
- The shaders, they’re not that developed compared to the Java Edition.
The Pros of having the Java Edition:
- This version is more developed.
- Shaders are top tier beautiful.
- Can play with Java players, and have fun servers with great mods.
- Can mod your game out of servers.
- Have more blocks to use.
- Updates are more frequent.
- Is actually the Minecraft everyone is meaning to talks about.
Which one should you buy?
I believe, if you want to get the most out of your game. The most out of your crafting, mining. Adventure, if you’d like. You should get the Java Edition!
And this is why.
There are less blocks, and there are newer blocks on the Java edition, so if you want that sweet mansion looking fantastic, amazing, beautiful. I’d recommend the Java edition, also also..
If you have a friend that plays Minecraft you most likely won’t be able to play with him if you have the Win 10 Edition, because she/he most likely has the Java Edition. And unless he does too, then you’ve wasted your money and it’s disappointing. Therefore, I recommend buying the Java Edition, as there are more players and as this edition is more developed: by both community, and Mojang. There are more blocks on Java Edition, more to craft like the shields, you can carry a torch in your other hand or anything else while still holding that Diamond Sword to protect yourself.
Conclusion.
Minecraft Win 10 Edition is basically the app you download on your phone, where as Java Edition is actually supposed to be for your computer. Is more developed and worth your money/gems. I’ve sadly bought the Windows 10 Edition, because I didn’t know the difference. But one simple youtube search and I could tell the difference between the two, and so I thought it would be a great idea to help other on gamehag.
