AMD to stop support for 32-bit video drivers

The latest driver to include 32-bit support is version 18.9.3, released late last month by AMD. It included support for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Forza Horizon and fixed two stability and usability issues.

The company mentioned,

AMD Radeon Software support for x32-bit Windows operating systems have been moved to a legacy support mode–we are not planning to support x32-bit Windows operating systems in future driver releases. This change enables AMD to dedicate valuable engineering resources to developing new features and enhancements for graphic s products based on the latest x64-bit Windows-based operating systems. Users can continue to use existing x32-bit drivers if they so choose. However, for those who are passionate about gaming and want to continue receiving the best of Radeon Software features and performance, we recommend they consider upgrading to a x64-bit Windows operating system.

However, AMD may still patch critical issues that are discovered in the near future. Whether that means critical security issues, stability issues, or issues with individual games is yet to be clarified.

How does AMD ending support for 32-bit Windows affects users

As per Steam’s Hardware Survey, the user base for 32-bit Windows version has plummeted to 2% across Windows XP, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10, hence this news is unlikely to create a massive concern among Windows users. The best strategy for users who are still hanging to 32-bit is to switch to 64-bit before experiencing security and compatibility issues.

Over the last few years, device and game vendors have been shifting their attention solely to 64-bit OS. Even Apple ended 32-bit support for iOS last year.

AMD thus joins NVIDIA, in ending their support for 32-bit versions of Windows OS.

Your best bet is to see if your motherboard’s Support download page has 32 bit CHIP Set drivers. Otherwise you are out of luck and would need to upgrade to x64 OS to get continued support in drivers.

Установка Windows 7 на AMD Ryzen

За основу я возьму оригинальный образ Microsoft Windows 7 Professional с установленным пакетом обновлений Service Pack 1. Первым делом нам необходимо подготовить наш образ к установке. В него нужно включить недостающие драйвера.

Вы можете найти уже готовые образы на просторах интернета, но я не рекомендую этого делать, поскольку, там могут быть уже зашиты вирусы, да и в целом система может работать не так, как надо. Тем более, что сделать это самому не так уж сложно. Производители материнских плат выпустили утилиты, которые позволяют должным образом подготовить установщик. Мы будем использовать утилиту от MSI.

Нерешенной остается только одна проблема, это установка Win 7 на Ryzen с интегрированной графикой, например, на Ryzen 3 2200G. Драйверов для интегрированной графики нет и не предвидится в ближайшее время. Единственный способ установить эту систему на такой процессор — отключить интегрированную графику и использовать дискретную видеокарту.

1. Загрузка утилиты

Скачать программу можно по прямой ссылке. Такие утилиты были выпущены и другими производителями. Но не обязательно использовать утилиту от производителя вашей материнской платы. Тем более, что программы от Asus и Gigabyte не хотят работать с ISO образами и требуют чтобы им установили диск в DVD-ROM.

После завершения загрузки программы распакуйте архив с ней и запустите исполняемый файл. Это не портативная версия и её придется установить. В мастере установки нет ничего сложного, просто нажимайте кнопку Далее.

2. Подготовка образа

После завершения установки запустите программу. В первом окне нажмите на единственную кнопку Smart Tool:

Напротив пункта Source Folder найдите кнопку Select ISO File и выберите ваш ISO файл с установщиком Windows 7. Также можно выбрать директорию или диск с файлами установщика:

Затем, в разделе Choose Storage Device установите переключатель в положение USB Drive и выберите нужный USB накопитель. Также не забудьте отметить галочкой пункт Add NVMe Driver чтобы установщик Windows 7 видел подключенные к системе M.2 диски. После этого нажмите кнопку Start и дождитесь завершения работы программы:

Далее можно перезагрузить компьютер.

3. Установка Windows 7

Установка Windows пройдет как обычно. При загрузке, войдите в BIOS и установите устройством для загрузки вашу флешку, затем загрузитесь с неё. Если все было сделано правильно, то клавиатура и мышка, подключенные по USB 3.0 будут работать, а также будет поддерживаться установка на NVMe диск (M.2). Я не буду вдаваться в подробности того как проходит установка Windows 7 на Ryzen 5, я думаю вы не первый раз устанавливаете эту операционную систему. Перейдем сразу к настройке после установки.

5. Разблокировка обновлений Windows

Несмотря на то, что многие люди отключают обновления, устанавливать их важно и необходимо. Там содержаться различные исправления уязвимостей и проблем с безопасностью. Microsoft пытается помешать пользователям использовать Windows 7, поэтому центр обновлений будет отключен. Если вы запустите утилиту Windows Update, то больше никогда не сможете скачивать обновления в вашей системе.

Чтобы это обойти нужно сразу же, как только вы установите Windows и попадете на рабочий стол, установить обновление KB3102810, которое вы можете скачать по ссылке.

Только после его установки перезагрузите компьютер, и переходите к установке драйверов

6. Установка драйверов AMD

Все драйвера советую загрузить заранее и сохранить их на флешке, ведь Windows 7, по умолчанию, не включает драйверов для многих устройств, поэтому ни сети, ни нормального видео режима, скорее всего, у вас не будет. Тем не менее, большинство производителей материнских плат все ещё выпускают драйвера для этой системы.

Драйвера на чипсет ставить не обязательно, многие компьютеры прекрасно работают без них. Но AMD выпустила соответствующие драйвера для Ryzen несмотря на то, что официально от Microsoft эти процессоры не поддерживаются. Скачать эти драйвера можно на этой странице.

Здесь, в разделе Select your product form the list необходимо выбрать пункт Chipsets, затем AMD Socket AM4, а потом ваш сокет:

Далее вы будете переброшены на страницу загрузки драйвера. Тут необходимо выбрать драйвер для Windows 7.

7. Установка обновлений Windows

После установки нескольких наборов обновлений система сообщит, что вы используете не поддерживаемое оборудование и дальнейшие обновления устанавливаться не будут. Чтобы это обойти установите вот это обновление.

После этого вы сможете получать обновления в нормальном режиме, пока Microsoft будет их выпускать или пока эта компания опять что-то не поломает.

Выводы

В этой статье мы разобрали как установить Windows 7 на Ryzen. Для написания этой инструкции я использовал материнскую плату MSI B450 Tomahawk, процессор Ryzen 5 2600X и накопитель SSD M2. Во время установки нормально работала мышка и клавиатура, подключенные через USB, после установки — тоже.

Система нормально видела накопитель SSD M.2 и установилась на него. Но следите, чтобы на вашем накопителе использовалась таблица разделов MBR, при использовании GPT загрузчик Windows не установится. А в целом все работает и совместимость есть, хотя и без официальной поддержки от Microsoft.

Hello all,
im new here and kinda in a bind.
I am needing to do a install of Win7 64 pro, i have the dvd and got the process started.
Background is the wifes comp that has some OS dependent software died, i cant get the same hardware so i got parts that have W7 support but the installer keeps asking for a driver but wint specify what driver. I have tried tons and no luck.
So that landed me here, downloaded all the drivers for the install and trying to integrate here.

I got the drivers unzipped and when i loaded them into the tool, but it gave an error regarding incompatible hardware. Well yes it is, this is for an AM4 board which doesnt currently work, and imndoing it on my W10 intel board so of course it wont be compatible BUT they dont need to be.

How do i go about getting past this?

Only on intel 8/9th gen, H310C(R2.0) and B365, stuff i use.
Getting w7 running on new hardware is a mixed bag, if TOG has 8/9th gen intel we should be able get him up and running here.
If not there are threads at win-raid and mdl which could help him.

Pointless going any further until TOG tells us Exactly what hardware he has.

According to the info i had it is supported. But i can see how far that has gotten me so far.
I have a copy/paste of the windows cd on my hdd, i used that for the OS part.
Then have a folder with several drivers for the board i just pulled down from Gigabyte for the board.
When i got them into ntlite it kicked back an error about incompatible hardware. I assumed this error was because it saw my hardware on the system im making it on and said those drivers dont with with this board. I guess i am wrong there and its complaining about the drivers and W7.
This is as far as ive gotten, not sure where to go from here.
Im happy for any/all advice here.

I stopped using amd a few years ago so i need to refresh the old grey matter.

Ahh ok, this is my first since my socket 1207 Opteron. Im more used to Intel, but this checked the boxes, on paper at least, and the combo was on a dirt cheap sale that would use RAM i already had.
Cool on the rename of the thread as this is evolving and not the problem i misunderstood the error initially.
Yeah some links would be great. Or steps, however we need to get it to work.

First up, a few considerations.

Windows Update will be blocked an AM4, you will get an «unsupported hardware» warning, therefore you will need to build an updated image somehow, i build my w7 end of life capture on old supported hardware, i will leave creating an updated image to other people who know more than me on that subject.

AMD doesnt say Windows 7 is supported on Ryzen 5 3600, but it says Windows 7 is supprted on the AMD Chipset Driver v2.17.25.506.

Gigabyte also says the B450 chipset supports Windows 7.

So assuming that AMD and Gigabyte aint full of it it should be possible.
Note — Assuming my memory serves me well(it is bullet proof at times) the actual chipset installer must be used because it forces the driver signing during installation. This may not be the case now, it was on FM2+.

The way it is looking at the moment id give it 50/50 on installing Windows 7 on AM4 and that wifey may well be out of luck.
I have XP era software working happily in w10 1809(ltsc) without any problems.

Chew on that lot while i do some testing for this, be back later.

Double check that your graphics card has windows 7 drivers, if it doesnt that may put the brakes on this.
Please let me know ASAP before i do any testing.

win-raid is best for hardware id’s.

I want to move her to w10 BUT she is resistant and she has a deadline. That is long term plan.

As for video driver yup we got those, that part is a non issue.

What she wants and what is technically possible are 2 different things, i keep telling people that.
An old used dell that came with windows 7 from the factory may not be a bad idea.

Step 1.
Load your w7 image into ntlite, get updates with ntlite update downloader, integrate, save — Apply.
Get chipset driver 18.10.0813 from gigabyte, install windows 7 and add the drivers according to the instructions in those 2 videos then report back.

Give me a link for the driver package you previously tried to integrate but failed in ntlite please.

Windows Update «unsupported hardware» warning

OK just got up, getting back to it
I didnt see a hardware ID on the error screen never got to the drive section just install Windows button and the error about needing a driver.

I will follow the steps above, question. Once i integrate the updates, and save. Can i load that again or am i just adding the drivers on a separate drive like the vids show? I couldnt get it to detect a different a different thimb drive just the driver dvd. Not sure i have any burnable media either or a burner anymore.

I can select a copy of the os dvd on my hdd. But it shows only language packs available in updates
When i try to have ntlite access the dvd itself it says the “file currently busy or access denied. Sometime due to antiviris background scanning….” its turned off and i have retried. No change.

I know that cant be right about only having language packs because this dvd was bought within the first fee months of W7 release.

Follow the «interesting stuff» link in my signature, look for iso downloads, there will be official(direct from MS) and unofficial links(other places), ideally you want a SP1-U iso, the U standing for media refresh iso.

I have extracted the drivers from AMD_Chipset_Software_Win7_2.17.25.506(got direct from amd).
Add them to install.wim and boot.wim — microsoft windows setup, save = Apply. Install.

Taosd is on Ryzen 5 5600 and A529 mobo, what os you use toad?

Just tried to add the driver version you losted for chipset in ntlite and it did nothing, the old v17 said not compatible.
