Chess Titans is a chess video game with 3D graphics developed by Oberon Games and included in Windows Vista and Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate. It is a fully 3D animated, photorealistic interactive chess game with ten difficulty levels when played against the computer. It can be played by two participants, or one player against the computer.[1]

The game was publicly introduced in Windows Vista build 5219.[2]
Another chess program by Microsoft known simply as Chess was bundled in Microsoft Entertainment Pack 4 for earlier versions of Windows in 1992.[3] It was developed by David Norris, a former Microsoft employee and author of the chess engine «Ziggurat».[4]
The game is fully animated and designed for demonstrating the hardware-accelerated graphics capabilities of the earlier Windows Presentation Foundation in Windows Vista. The game features a photorealistic board which can be rotated in 3D,[5] and themes are available for the chess pieces and board. The game showcases the 3D capabilities of Vista on the desktop.[6]
The game can be played with either a mouse and a keyboard or any gamepad controller for Windows. It can also be played through Windows Media Center, using the remote control provided with TV Tuner Cards, and certain laptops as well.
On each player’s turn, Chess Titans displays the last move made by the opponent. The player can also click on a chess piece to highlight all valid moves for that piece. These features can be turned off in the Options dialog box.
- Chess Titans has ten difficulty levels, which can be selected from the Options dialog box. The player can also choose whether to play as black or white. When playing against the computer for the first time, the player is prompted to choose an initial difficulty level of Beginner (level 2), Intermediate (level 5), or Advanced (level 8).[7][8]
Chess Titans keeps a record of how many games the player has won, drawn, and lost against the computer at each difficulty level. The statistics can be reset, however, it does not calculate Elo numbers or, since the player can play against the computer, approximations thereof.
In a two-player game, the chess board automatically turns 180 degrees for the opposite player after each move. This option can be turned off. Chess Titans saves all two-player game scores.

Playing chess is one of the various things you can do on your free time. If you prefer playing the game on your PC screen, Chess Titans is a nice chess game. It is a classic game that was once introduced by Microsoft before eventually got discontinued.
Chess Titans is a lightweight game. On a Windows PC supported by 4 GB RAM, it can run without any lag even if you open a bunch of other software at the same time.
Features and Highlights
Chess Titans lets you choose a difficulty level when playing against the computer. There are three levels from beginner, intermediate, to advanced. The levels can be changed anytime in the settings window by dragging the slider to left or right. However, if you change it during a match, you will be asked whether to continue the current match or end it and start a new one with the new level setting. If you choose the former option, the difficulty level setting will be applied to the next match.
You play white by default when you’re up against the computer, and that means you get the chance to make your attack move first. You can play as black too if you desire so. Just go to the settings page to change it.
In a situation where you have to quit in the middle of a match, Chess Titans will ask you what it should do with the match in progress: save it or don’t save it.
The auto save, when enabled, will always save the match on exit without asking for confirmation. And if you enable this option, you may also want to enable the other one that tells Chess Titans to always continue the saved match every time you launch the game.
If you think that playing a match against a human opponent is more fun than a machine, Chess Titans has a separate mode where you can play with your friend or anyone else who is willing to be your opponent. Too bad it can only be done in an offline setting where you and your opponent has to take turn in moving the pieces.
The other downside that you may not like is that Chess Titans runs only in a windowed mode. Full screen is not supported. There is no option at all to make it full screen. Nothing happens too when the standard hotkey for going full screen, which is F11, is pressed.
