I did a google search and found this Turn ON or OFF Reputation-based protection settings in Windows 11/10
But I still cant find

well I know for a fact you have to disable that or Windows Defender totally to install then whitelist it. Are you just using windows Defender? No other Antivirus etc? Also what I know for a fact is that setting specifically is in the defender settings, cause i have disabled them a bunch of times after having to Re-Install windows a bunch in the past year. You have to click on every single colored link inside the security/defender settings. Its there. I cant look cause im using Avast which takes over and disables Defender and any setting in Defender settings are greyed out and unclickable. I just know its there, someone else here could probably direct you via settings info if they use Defender as well.

and i have used cheat engine before
I dont see how it has malware
one thing i did not do is restart windows after changes

Personally, I would not do it nor would I advise you to, but you can probably disable security and install it but do so at your own risk.
In search box type «virus and threat protection «, then click on search result. Under virus and threat protection, select manage settings.Toggle off real time protection. Attempt to download and install the program again.
Turn defender back on and run a full defender scan. The scan will then detect any erroneous file or folder that was installed and give you the results.
You will have to manually allow those files that defender flags by clicking on the down arrow next to each entry in the results. Then again under manage settings, scroll down to exclusions. Make exclusions for everything defender found to prevent defender from ever scanning those files/folders again..

Cheat Engine is not a virus, its detected as a virus because it can attach itself to processes and modify memory.
this is needed to be able to change the value in game to get infinite health, ammo etc.
I agree with @Squirrel here, most cheat engines effectively work in the same way as to how malware works and will usually get flagged as being malicious. I wouldn’t advise the user install the software personally because of the risk of something actually malicious being installed.

Cannot be installed on Win11
Hi,
Cheat Engine cannot be installed in Win11. The Setup process starts (seen in Task Manager), the Windows Problem Reporting process starts and the entire Setup process ends automatically. Turning off the antivirus did not help (ESET Smart Security).
Any idea how fix it?

All the more reason to hate Windows forced eventual update. Every time they finally get a stable OS; they decide to go around and break everything by forcing people to get a new one. XP to Vista, Vista to 7, 7 to 10…. History never changes.

Did you disable «reputation based protection»
it turns itself on every now and then so do check again if you did disable it
(and check your firewall)

it certainly can be installed, even with smartscreen/reputation based protection, you just have to explicitly allow the execution when defender come screaming (tho bundling ads in the installer does not help the ce case here).
disabling antivirus does not actually disable or unload antivirus drivers that do various filtering of filesystem and system calls, so you might want to temporarily uninstall the 3rd party av (I know it’s a pain, but idk how you completely disable it without that).

Hello, whenever I try to start cheat engine’s .exe, the most I get is a popup asking me if I want to run it, and then nothing after. I found the issue thread #1310, and I’ve tried everything there, but no luck. I’ve turned off windows reputation protection, my antivirus(Webroot), and I can confirm that I do not have badlion or xhunter, but I may have something else. I have also tried downloading it from the github, but there’s no difference. Here’s my bla.txt to help with diagnosis:
