Does Windows 2000 have full support for WPA2-PSK using a 802.11N wireless NIC? 802.11N NICs have Windows 2000 in the System Requirements, but I wasn’t sure if 2000 had full support for WPA2.

i dont believe so…you’ll need at least XP SP2 with KB893357 to support WPA2.

They could include that support in a vendor-supplied client utility. Check the docs and support for the particular device.

For stationary applications, you could do it using a driver-free, OS-independent client mode bridge, e.g. SMCWEB-N.

As mentioned, WPA2 isn’t directly supported by Windows 2000.

I tend to use WPA in cases like this. It’s adequately secure, easier to find supporting hardware and drivers, and is more likely to be usable if you ever have «guest» computers that need to use your WiFi.

WPA2 is newer and better, but if Not supported there is No reason to be afraid of WPA.

With all the constant changes in wireless it just doesn’t make sense to rely on the OS for support.

Use the client utility for the card. Faster (it shouldn’t take more than a second to connect to a wireless net), easier, better, wider support, etc.

This is an extremely old thread, but I have some information that is useful for people referring to this in the future, and who have legacy systems or are simply building retro machines as a hobby.

Boingo Wireless released a client in 2006 that supports WPA2 on Windows 2000. You can download it by visiting the Internet Archive aka Wayback Machine.

You must have at least Service Pack 4 and at least Internet Explorer 5.5 installed.

You simply have to check the box, and accept the terms and conditions:
