Unable to start Bluetooth user service in Windows 10 Home
Details:
OS Version : Windows 10 Home
Bluetooth Driver : Qualcomm Atheros AR3012 Bluetooth 4.0
I have been having problems connecting Bluetooth devices to my laptop presumably after Windows 10 upgrade. I didn’t use Bluetooth in ages after upgrade and only saw this problem when I tried to connect a device a few days ago. I have performed all the steps i.e. uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, system restarts, updating the drivers but nothing seems to have worked so far.
I then tried troubleshooting Bluetooth and troubleshooter shows the following attached is the image for it:
«Check Bluetooth radio status» : «Not fixed» <error_icon>
I then opened «services.msc» and saw 3 bluetooth services:
- Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service
- Bluetooth Support Service
- Bluetooth User Support Service_5679c
I tried restarting these services and setting startup type to automatic. While it worked for 1 and 2, for 3, I got an error saying parameter not supported. Also, when I tried restarting «Bluetooth User Support Service_5679c», it stopped automatically after a few seconds so it looks like it’s failing to start.
To summarise, there are a couple of problems:
- Bluetooth service is not able to start up
- Troubleshooter is not able to access Bluetooth radio service
Has anyone seen these problems before? Could anyone please advice what to do in this case?

The parameter is incorrect Bluetooth User Support Service to Auto
Hi jantis,
I have found a possible solution for both of us (I can’t test it right now) it’s changing the start type in the registry from Manual to Automatic.
Change «Start» from 3 to 2 in the following places:
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BluetoothUserService
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\BluetoothUserService_33965
Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\bthservI am not sure it will work but i’ll try it soon
Edit: I just saw that you cannot turn on/off Bluetooth, i know how to fix that.
Step 1: Open services.msc
Step 2: Start the following services:Bluetooth Support Service
Bluetooth Audio Gateway Service
and any other Bluetooth related services. Then set all of them to automatic.
BTW: I am having a problem setting Bluetooth User Support Service to Automatic, but the registry thing I showed you up in my post might fix it.

Bluetooth in windows 10
My computer specs are as listed in the profile. I think all of you guys are correct. I don’t have built-in Bluetooth in mobo.
I contacted skull candy headphones and thy have told me if I do not have built-in Bluetooth, I would need a dongle which supports at least a2dp. I do not know what the heck that means. I have a feeling I would need more than a cheap dongle.
Anyone suggest some a2dp adapters. I searched but don’t know what a2dp is so couldn’t make a decision

Unable to start Bluetooth user service in Windows 10 Home
Bluetooth Services
I’ve been using the audio gateway on my phone for a while, but when I actually looked through the list of services it does provide, I found it to be quite large. For some reason, my computer doesn’t support many of these, such as remote control etc.
I’m pretty sure it has more or less to do with my bluetooth adapter, because it gives me only a small list of the total services it can accept. Anybody have any idea how I can add more?
