same problem but other machine(I think that the bluetooth dongle is the same- Broadcom) : Samsung R560, Vista 32bit Home Premium
When I try to connect my Diamond, Vista asks me for Installing Bluetooth Peripheral Device…There´s no possiblitlity to find one at the computer and even the German HTC Support doesn´t have any idea (but the Support-Guy didn´t seem to have any knowledge about pc´s )
The strange thing is, that the Laptop and the device are connected after entering the access-code, but no services are available.
Therefore guys, you´re my one and only hope (yes, I also accept an advice of a woman ) Please help me….

The Bluetooth peripheral device that Vista detects is the «Windows Mobile-based Device Support» device. It should be configured properly when Windows Mobile Device Center (Sync Center) is installed but it somehow gets messed up. I think Micorosoft will soon release a patch for this problem. Anyways for now, do this:
1. Install Windows Mobile Device Center that comes on the Companion CD with your phone if you haven’t already done so. Even if you have installed it, open Programs and Features from Control Panel and repair the installation. I am using a HTC P3400i and my CD comes with versions for XP and Vista both.
2. The first step may solve your problem automatically. If it doesn’t, however, Right Click on Computer Icon and Choose Manage.
3. Goto Device Manager. You’ll see an Unknow Device named Bluetooth Peripheral Device. Double Click it to open its properties.
4. Click «Reinstall Driver» on the first tab.
5. Click «Browse My Computer for Driver Software» button.
6. Click «Let Me Pick from a List of Device Drivers on my computer».
7. Now the next page will show a list of drivers with Company Names in one list and Drivers in another. In the Company List choose Microsoft Corporation, not only Microsoft. Please confirm this twice that you dont choose Micorosoft but Micorosoft Corporation.
8. Now in the drivers list there may be one or more drivers with the name «Windows Mobile-Based Device Support» with different driver versions. I cant tell you which will work for you, but start with the newest version.
9. Click next. Ignore any warnings and keep pressing next and then Finish at last. If all goes well, the last screen will show the message that device driver is properly installed.
If the last screen shows that device is nto configured properly or The device could not start then repeat the above steps choosing a different driver version this time.
I sincerly hope that this will solve the problem that all of you are facing. It has worked for me, atleast.

Unfortunately, it didn´t work for me, my pc can´t detect the services of my HTC TOUCH DIAMIND and also other way round. Hope that windows will fix this bug because it is neither the fault of my bluetooth dongle nor the one of my device…

I have win7 x64, but I can’t find «Windows Mobile-Based Device Support» driver.
I’ve repaired WMDC. And I’ve tried other drivers. I’m attaching a screenshot. Most of the device is accounted for, but the «Bluetooth Peripheral Device» is not working for my HD2 or my TP2. I know this is the Diamond Thread, but I’m sure it’s going to be the same solution in the end.
I’ve not had many problems between my laptop and the 2 phones, but under certain circumstances, then don’t want to communicate. I usually find a «work around», but if anyone has other ideas… I’m all ears.

Hey Guys, I am new to XDA Forums. Its a great place to be for Windows Mobile Users. Coming to the point, here is the solution for the problem that all of you are facing. 7a) choose All devices — instead of Mobile Devices
7b) instead of Microsoft Corporatin choose (Standard Windows Mobile devices) — yes it’s written inside () so you’ll find it at the beginning of the list
…
hope that helps
EDIT: it only worked when my HTC HD2 had been connected via USB during driver instalation….

Bluetooth Peripheral Device
A Bluetooth device uses radio waves instead of wires or cables to connect to a computer. Nowadays, there are billions of Bluetooth technology devices like smartphones, headsets, cars, game consoles, computers, tablets, TVs, etc.. The most commonly Bluetooth peripheral devices we use with a computer are mobile phones, wireless headsets, wireless mouse, wireless keyboards, wireless microphones, wireless webcams, and so on.
If you have any questions on Bluetooth, you can leave comments below to let us know or click the LEFT MENU on this page for more help. Any other driver issues, please see Windows Driver Solutions on this site.
You can connect any of the Bluetooth Peripheral devices to a computer via the Bluetooth adapter. Almost all laptops come with a built-in Bluetooth adapter. If your computer doesn’t have one, you can add a Bluetooth adapter (like a USB Bluetooth adapter card) to it. Make sure that you have a working Bluetooth adapter driver. You can try Driver Talent to install a correct Bluetooth adapter driver.
